Frankie, you broke my heart. I was so ready to put up some positive reinforcement for J. You robbed this from him. I want him in and Junior out. You may have just cost him that.
Physioc, leave your friggin wannabe Vin Scully stats to yourself. He’s the mook in the closet sent there by Chazz Palmentieri in “A Bronx Tale” Talk about a jinx! He’s the Grim Reaper in drag.
F-Rod, why the hell didn’t you just toss him junk and take your chances withn a rookie?
I wish there would be an RFC for config screens and nomenclature on wireless router configs and client network entries. Half the battle is deciphering what the particular vendor is calling crap so that you can navigate the UI to check the settings in question. Bastards. D-Link is the very worst.
Back on topic: DHCP is his basic problem. He needs to have his stack fixed rather than dynamic.
was working with a d-link di-624; possibly the worst router of all time. It took me two days to get it to play nice with my wrt54g flashed with dd-wrt.
If I never see its shit-tacular firewall and/or VN settings again it’ll be too Goddamned soon.
I thought Netgear was bad. I’ve had terrible infant mortality problems with Netgear WiFi routers. It got so bad I finally coughed up the dough for a Cisco (better to spend big bucks once than $100 every six months).
Seems like Frankie's been very lucky so far this season
his WHIP is up at 1.17 and his K/9 is WAY down at 8.45 (both before today) compared to other top closers, his numbers (besides ERA & save %) don’t look that good… http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/closers
so either a) he’s been getting damn lucky so far to convert 35 of 38, or b) hes’ actually a better pitcher than his numbers, which will start getting better soon.
I’m most worried about his low K numbers; this tells me that he may be losing some of his nastiness.
However, if we keep him till the end of the season and he signs with someone else, I’m pretty sure that we’d get a first-round draft pick out of the deal.
Trade the best closer in the game when you have a legitimate chance to win the WS?
Look: I am as bummed as anyone that Frankie blew the game. That is what, his 3rd BS? Get real guys. There is only one Gagne, and he was on steroids. Frankie is flat out amazing, but he is human. I would take him over anyone around, including Shieldsy, and definitely over Dondo (whom I love for the future).
Do I think we should pay him $15M x 4 next year? I don’t know. Ask me after the WS, when we will have (I hope) a ring. But in the meantime, appreciate the great closer we have, even if he loses one once in a while.
P.S. I think I am so sanguine about this loss because JR is really in the lineup this time, hopefully for good!
Just came back.... left when the Angels were up 2-1
I know it’s a small complaint but is anyone else bothered by the Arredondo only pitches the 7th, Shields only pitches the 8th deal that Sosh has going on? Arredondo throws 10 pitches and is taken out of the game? Why not let him go another inning and instead save Shields for another night. Soth certainly puts out lineups to rest his positional players but has no problem racking up the appearances for relievers.
Also I haven’t even seen the homerun but I’m definitely in the camp that says walk Hamilton. How can you let the RBI leader beat you when you don’t have to. I sure hope its not a pride issue with Frankie.
But what about his 35 other saves? A blown save and everyone is calling for his head. He must be the damn devil either worrying about padding his stats instead of the team, a guy needing to be dumped out the door and a guy who hasn’t proven worthy at all [despite the numbers saying otherwise].
OK, so really I was just drinking the pain away and didn’t post my opinion until now.
But from the second in the bottom of the 9th, with the count at 2-1, after the stolen base, I was screaming “WALK HIM, WALK HIM” despite having Hamilton on both of my fantasy teams. Precisely because, well, I have him on my fantasy team because he’s currently the AL MVP. Meaning, he does stuff like hit walk off home runs.
My roommate was convinced we were just going to pitch around him, not trying to get him out. To which I replied “why even bother, Mathis needs to be 5 feet off the plate.”
I threw my hat the very moment I saw contact with the 3-1 pitch and walked out of the room.
But honestly, I don’t even blame Frankie. This one falls squarely on Scioscia. It’s Scioscia’s job to call the IBB. I love what he’s brought to this franchise, but honestly, Scioscia has flat out sucked this year. Further proof of this year’s crap job he’s doing: awful work with the lineup. He’ll create a good lineup, play it once, score 7 runs… and then the very next day trot out a completely different lineup. Guess what, it takes players time to get used to their roles. Make a stand on what you believe in, and stick with it for two weeks. Unless that lineup has GMJ in the 2-hole, in which case all hope is lost anyway haha.
One sez “never intentionally put the winning run on base”.
The other sez “never pitch to the league MVP candidate having a career season and driving in RBI’s like they were cattle on the Chisolm trail when you are already behind in the count 3-1 and first base is now open because their player just stole second base which is the friggin’ lesson you should have just learned the other night when Kendrick took the bat out of GA’s hands by making that same baserunning mistake and probably costing you the game.“
I mentioned way back in the fall/winter post how the Angels should make a trade with Cinci sending FRod for Hamilton and they could also get another prospect for him. I spoke about how the LF thing would be fixed and how JR could be the 4th OF and how the Angels should buy JR a 1B glove…..........
Do you really think that Shields could not have recorded the saves FRod has? Lets be serious he would be 30+ saves as well. News flash premium closer don’t walk guys and they sure as shit don’t intentionally walk guys. Weaver got him out 2x and Arredondo struck him out (the guy that will be the closer one day).
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that when first base is open and the guy at the plate is a triple crown contender you need to walk the guy.
And give Frankie a little credit? FFS. Last night in Glasgow hotel I couldn’t access wi-fi, which pissed me off at the time but given the events of the night I couldn’t be happier I missed the game.
With no wifi in my hotel, I went out and had a late-nite Chinese in Sauchiehall Street and was tempted by the casino across the street. Won £400 on blackjack.
I love Frankie but I’m soooo glad I missed this game and went gambling instead.
It was an interesting casino. One roulette wheel, one craps table, two blackjack tables (£2 minimum) and a couple Texas hold-em tables. I just went with my usual strategy on the blackjack by playing multiple hands little at first then ramping up.
Kicked their asses. £400 ain’t bad for 5 hours blackjack, considering the beers were only £1.50 and it was a nice clean place. Hot bar girls. Dealers were really friendly and I’m tempted to go back tonight :)
Will need to remind self to leave extra cash in hotel room.
I owned up to Mrs Highlandhalo and told her about my winnings. She was OK with that, and she said I could wager up to £40 tonight.
I sense a double-jinx coming up. The wife saying a) I can gamble b) having a limit cuz BJ is a game where you gotta grind ‘em out and c) Norcali’s theory of second day in a row.
But you can’t start a hot streak without getting back in the batter’s box, so I’ll let you know how it goes. Thump … I’ll take a push.
Despite battling for 3 hours on the 21 tables I ended up giving the C**NTS back £43. I still got three more nights in Glasgow though. I’m gonna get them back for that.
Mrs Highlandhalo might be checking up on Halos Heaven to see what I’m up to. The Rev has gotten us all inadvertently spun into the world of Big Brother is Watching! :)
He is even better…...would be the best player in a Halo uniform thats for sure.
I saw this kid the summer before his senior year then again his senior year of HS. The team walked him 3 straight times 4 pitches each AB. On the 4th AB he swung at one pitch and hit it over the school bungalow in right center for a 2 run HR. In the bottom of the inning he came into pitch k 3 throwing 94-96. I stayed around for another few days to see him play again. Wasn’t hard being I saw B. Roberts South Carolina team play U Kentucky with B Webb pitching. Hamilton hands down Best amateur player I have seen.
I really don't understand why he didn't just walk Hamilton.
It’s not like the extra run would have mattered if Murphy had hit a jack.
cardinalwraith - July 9, 2008
Shoulda given him the IBB
Spilled milk now.
As blown saves go, giving one up to the AL HR or RBI leader (whichever one Hamilton is) doesn’t hurt that bad.

Another reason why it HAS to be Scioscia
On a 3-1 count, Frankie didn’t even throw him a fastball. That WAS their version of pitching around him, and he didn’t care.
He’s not Vlad, but he’s THEIR Vlad.
With a base open at 1st, do YOU pitch to Vlad in the 9th inning with a lead and two outs?
101halo - July 9, 2008
Schools of thought.
One sez “never intentionally put the winning run on base”.
