you're da man, Rev
I hope that never happens again.

I was going nuts without a place to vent about the game!

venting is what got everyone in trouble

venting without freaking out and name calling is alright.

it wasn't venting...it was acting like a bunch of women on PMS steroids

I hang out here to get AWAY from that crap

you come to the internet for sane, rational, level-headed conversation?

Do I need to explain to you how many things are wrong with that?

I think it's more the Rev would like people having a civil yet heated debate on baseball

It’s HIS reputation on the line. Not yours.

Crap like that makes this blog look like the Britney Spears Trailer Trash Blog-O-Rama

You guys are making whiny assed women look good. I have never been with a group of guys that disintegrate so quickly into a whizzing match over the stupidest things.

Well said

Even if I am at fault sometimes

Agreed, but to a point

this is a sports forum for a sports team where many impassioned fans will post their objections in the heat of the moment.

It’s difficult to expect us all to wear our top-hats and monocles as we sip tea to discuss the latest cricket match…

Also, my post above was a joke. The internet is for porn.

actually what I've seen lately is fodder for the other blogs to say what jackasses are on HH
You rang?
Think she did, mate
your Lurch impression?
Wow

Hey shifty tell me where you work so I can tell your what YOUR job description is. I have been building this site up since March of 2005 with the help of lots of people and you start a game thread by calling Jim Muscomp a troll, let me guess, that was your passion.

johnsamo lives
No, I called Jimmuscomp's post useless

which, unless you have some impassioned love for counting, it is. And it’s annoying. He called himself a troll, and I refuted him, telling him simply his post was a bullshit filler post at best.

Secondly, I cut the heads off of mice and analyzed their brains today. There’s not a lot of room for decorum there.

Thirdly, it’s just jokes, man. Especially in this thread here. We all love the Angels here, we should embrace our brotherhood as such.

Well then...

...nobody gets your jokes.

When you are a dick and get called on it, “oh haha it was a joke”, dude THAT = “Loser”

Be funny here or be enjoyable here or both here, or go join your mice for company during the game for all I care.

Now that's just mean.

Honestly, I’m a dick like 30% of the time, which is far less than say, hauldog (no offense, man). But if you don’t think I’m funny, that’s fine, but if you think you’re being civil when you call a faithful poster/patron of your website a “loser”, then how am I supposed to think you tolerate behavior of that caliber around here?

It’s not exactly good for this reputation you speak of to insult your own.

I think it would be clearer you meant no harm if you used smileys and didn't curse quite as much.

People tend to take it personally when you curse at them.

fair 'nuff

Though to be fair, my cursing is directed at MLB-oriented things.

=.=

stupid smiley editing posts!

I had a wicked kitty with like, whiskers and teeth and paws

instead, I get that above.

This guy better go through.<(_)>

Yeah, this place really blows at smileys.
Thank you for your concern about my "reputation.

But turning it around does not excuse you.

Be a dick ZERO percent of the time.

Greater than 30% dick?

WTF man!

>30% richard and 70% corn-hole

;)

Im not mighty blog runner awesome man like you are

but I think calling people Losers isn’t a good way to slow down those pesky internet trolls/arguments.

Could be wrong.

way to back up your man from ATL...

PWN

Thank =)

Go Angels!

(I wont stoop to your level)

I sense someone treading on uncertain ground here
No, SEG...

You said I don’t have anything useful to say. That is a little more far reaching than not liking my most recent entry. But, after a couple retorts, I let it go and moved on. But, it seemed that you were antagonizing more than just me today.

I left the thread to tend to the kids, and when I came back it was closed down. I certainly hope I didn’t have much, if anything to do with that decision, Rev. If so, I apologize. I don’t want to piss on the carpet in your house – that’s for sure.

I don’t normally get to the game threads, so I figured I’d give it a shot today, and can honestly say that I found it to be not a lot of fun.

Anyway, apologies, SEG if I ticked you off.

You were fine, it was SEG telling you what you could and could not post like this is his blog.

Because that's EXACTLY how cricket is discussed...

..always.

If there's another way to do it

I don’t want to know what it is.

hey, shifty,

you’re a dick. get over it.

Now just what in the hell is this?

If there is a troll left in the troll-kingdom, this is it right here. If you were me, you’d be banned right now.

Not that I disagree with you, necessarily, but damn, play poke the bear somewhere else.

...ooey gooey rich and chewy inside…

(left, right, take a bite)

...gold and flaky tender on the outside…

I thought it was

Ooey gooey rich and chewy inside
Tender flaky, cakey on on the outside
Put the inside in the outside
For a good darn tootin’
It’s a BIG… FIG… NEWTON!!!!

Yes, I watched wayyyy too much TV in the past

Just googled

Here it is…

Ooey-gooey rich and chewy inside
Golden flakey tender cakey outside
Wrap the inside in the outside, is it good? Darn tootin’!
Doin’ the Big, Fig, Newton (here’s the tricky part)
The Big, Fig, Newton (one more time!)
The Big, Fig, a-Newton!

Look up the wikipedia article...
true

i was just going by a quick scan of the thread, looked like all kinds of bad but mainly it was….yeah, PMS ‘roids sounds about right. :)

I think the Panther has to go to Arredondo.

He took care of the most important innings there—he had to deal with the heart of the Sox lineup.

He did a good job

But the big hoodoo about us and Fenway is that we can’t hit there. Kotchman and Hunter proved that wrong. Especially Hunter’s blast, it was huge.

Ok, I've been holding these comments in since the comments were closed..

Oh shit, Arrendondo! What the hell!

GOod job Arrendondo, you’re the man!

OH NO SHIELDS??!

SHIELDS, YOU BLEW IT!!!

SHIELDS, YOU SAVED IT.

KRod comin’ in… oh yeah.

OH NO KROD BLEW IT

OH YEAH KROD SAVED IT

ok, that’s better.

That's a good summation of how I've felt for the past half hour or so.
Most importantly

LIGHT UP THE HALO!!

ahh yeah!!!

mike lowell’s contact almost made me sink though. the Papi punchout was SWEET!

You left out all your posts where you bitch that our cheerleading pom poms

don’t match your tits.

They only match my purse

and tampons.

Hwap!

well thats stupid.

:(

Yikes!

Those of us who played the blackjack percentages and went Desmond-Desmond-Desmond simply because he would have the most at-bats on our team got skunked!

Dealer had an ace showing. Dealer got blackjack! :(

in Vegas speak, we crapped out! :-)
Vladealer
I think I met him one time

It was in Laughlin though, not in Vegas. Lost $200.

Rev=Panther

why does playing boston make people freak out? we have a new weapon for Fenway and his name is Torii!!

we have an inferiority complex
That was a fun game.

Panther to Torii. _

agree

Rev gets the Administrative Panther though

Cajones from the Rev

Tough love, like Arte

Agreed.

Though I have to say, I feel pretty good that SEG and I managed to work out some things in-topic, no Rev boot-up-our-ass required.

Yes but that makes for a LAME Game Thread...

...two dudes picking apart how loose the other’s screw is … the HEIGHT of internet entertainment.

I dunno, HH & I had a lively game discussion via google chat! LOL
We certainly did ...

Thanks for that LB.
Rev boot up the ass probably was required.

I'm just glad I woke up feeling mellow this morning

if I’d had been having one of my epic in-thread nit-pick fests, I’d have felt like more of douchebag than I already do.

Speaking of which, I want to say that I’m going to make more of an effort to be less combative in the gameday topics especially. I try not to call people names, but I could be better about not starting arguments.

Also, as long as I’ve got you here, thanks for the shout-out to Eric Neel. ;-)

I think we are on the cusp of some major props in the media.

Why is that

‘esplain, Lucy

Ah shite stupid me

Needs sleep

Same here Rev...

I enjoyed emailing him – I’m looking forward to the article…

BTW, I was referring to the Eric Neel thing too...
Fingers Crossed

...you never know how the press will handle something…

Your earlier post hinted that you knew something about ...

what Eric’s writing and when he’s writing it. I guess we all did our parts.

Right...

Either way, it was fun.

Awesome win! One hell of a game!

Props to the whole team – a 3 run homer, a suicide squeeze, clutch pitching—this game had it all.

PotG = HUNTER: that was the big blow that kicked the Red Sox down.

I give my vote to Hunter.

But the bullpen did a hell of a job keeping a tough team like the Red Sox down. It’s never over with them until it’s over. We got the momentum on our side now with a W.

im kinda glad i wasnt really around for the Game Thread...

all kinds of fighting and bickering, no?
maybe we’re all like siblings here…. after a certain amount of time, we want to kill each other?

in any case, my vote went to Torii. The man is en fuego, and that homer really stuck it to Bahstin.

I personally give my vote to Kotchman

He was clutch enough to start up the offensive hit parade.

Don’t forget when he came up to bat, we were down 2-1, the board was in chaos, people were strangling one another.

When he finished his AB, the bases were clear, the Angels were winning, and the boards were peaceful once again.

and fenway was silent
well i guessed i missed all of the posting drama

that win feels really great. a couple more wins and red sox nation we start to develop a fear of the angels

We beat Dice-K

Big time. Light it UP!

i love torii hunter

im glad to see him silencing his critics on this board

Glad I was not on HH during the game......I read some of the posts and there was LOTS OF BITCHING AND FIGHTING

This was a good game to watch without arguments and name calling. Good call REV on closing the comments, most people were just waiting for someone to post so that they could snap at them with stupid comments.

POTG = Torii for helping the Angels as a whole see that Bawstin is not scary.

Torii was total panther
Not just by his performance, but by his clubhouse demeanor

His quotes to the press, which are always funny, clutch hitting, warming up in the hot months of the summer. Torii Hunter is making it easy to fall in love with him as an Angel.

What's not to like?

Torii’s the good egg from a bad place. He’s charming, works hard, and has come out swinging in his first year, heck, his first month as an Angel. I’d even give him even odds of becoming the face of the franchise post-Vlad, if such does happen.

Blue smoke for nearly blowing up padroia and keeping the rally going.
That was awesome

Old Man Blue Smoke going toe to toe with Dustin the scrawny neck Suck

it was weird logging on and realizing that there was no way to talk

That said, I still think Torii’s contract is dumb, but he’s such a good clubhouse/media guy that I’d give him the same dumb contract again.

Oh yeah, and he launches balls completely out of Fenway.

you live in Boston right, were you at the game?
nope, probably can't make any game this series

such is the life of an engineering student

i signed on after i ate, so i think i missed all the drama

but hopefully the win cheered everyone up. I know playing boston is weird because it feels like they always come back to win, but this game was fun. Torii is a bad bad man

I voted for E.T.

Putting out the fire was major panther, but I’d like to give a shout out to Mathis for a perfectly executed suicide squeeze.

I had almost forgotten the suicide squeeze with all the BS going on in the game thread

That was balls call by the Soth, perfectly executed by Mathis. And it was old-school Angels Soth ball from the start of that inning, when Desmond stole second base.

I love beating the Sux.

What was amazing to me was

that it used to be true (so I remember) that everybody said Mathis was incapable of the bunt. It was the cherry on top.

we are number 1,

shouldn’t have any complaints here at all!!

We rock.

Torii for panther.

Arredondo!

Props to Torii! That was A BOMB!
Rrops ALL AROUND!

apparently..........i missed ALOT today.........

nice win today…..

Prolly for the better eh.
but i didnt miss on the pregame points.........

lol w000 VLADDY

I'll go with Weaver

Was worried about him keeping us in the game, but he came through until the bats came around. Good job.

Um

My roommate has been playing The Forbidden Zone, which unfortunately scrambles my already addled brains.

Therefore I have no chance or rallying my senses at this point and recalling who I would endorse as Panther. I’ve just stumbled home from Hirozen Sushi in Fullerton. I’ve embibed two bottles of warm sake and two cold bottles of Sapporo.

But I have two things to say:

1: If “Panther” is defined by going beyond what we expect from them, I wholeheartedly endorse Simi, aka Weaver, for the Kitty today. Given the expectations of facing the Chowdaheads today, I was expecting a meltdown. He held up.

2. I am so happy this evening. I have been able to scarf down raw Yellow Tail while simultaneously watching us hand Bandwagon their arses. In front of everyone at my local sushi bar, Gawd, ESPN, and the bloody world.

Least popular team in the United States, eh?

As I said aloud at Hirozen when we snagged the last flyout in the bottom of the seventh, “Oh, I drink you milkshake!”

Damn I'm inebriated

i can find 3 things wrong with that post.

The lesson:
1. Follow the Rev’s example and be a Teetotaller.
2. Um… don’t drink and write. Even if it’s the internet. Just because we’re mostly strangers doesn’t make me less of a jackass.
3. I meant bottom of the 9th inning. ‘Case you care.

I wholeheartedly disagree about #2

Drinking and writing, particularly on the Internet, is both hilarious and endearing.

I'm old school sportswriter

From back in the days when there was free beer in the pressbox. I wholeheartedly endorse the drinking and writing combo, though I must say it’s a skill that must be learned and finely honed. Hemingway had it, although he didn’t have the luxury of watching a lot of the games on his laptop at the pub like I do.

Drinking and writing? Love it.

Wow. I leave for a few days and look what happens.

I blame myself. I snarkily asked for folks to post something snarky every few minutes in my absence (here), and look what you guys did with that. Clearly, snarkiness is a great power beyond too many people’s ability to control. I am taking back your snark privileges effective immediately.

this went beyond snark...WAAAAY beyond
Think Sorcerer's Apprentice.

What started out as a little magic trick to help mop the floor, became…..

a bunch of drips?
have we not seen Fantasia?

you could even throw a Fantasmic! reference in there.

OK, stirrups looks like Mickey on a good day
The King of Snark is back!

Stirrups, you need to conduct a clinic: How To Be Snarky Without The Rev Blowing Up The Game Thread 101

I see that Huner is winning this poll

And despite my mancrush on Torii, I wan to say Weaver Weaver Weaver.

I believe in Samson’s magic hair.

wow apparantly i missed the party ?

anway the game was awesome, kotch and torii launched some bombs… i saw a well-executed squeeze and i got to watch manny admire his meaningless HR right before his team went down… sweet day. oh yeah… ill go kotch on the panther go ahead HR after sox took the lead earlier was big

BOTG goes to Frankie

Giving up that walk-off homer to Manny in the 9th was just brutal.

Oh wait…... it wasn’t a walk-off? Sorry…. My bad, Manny’s reaction to it threw me there for a second.

My Panther of the Game goes to Kotch. His homerun gave the Angels the lead for good but the reason why I give him Panther over Hunter was because the pitch he hit was actually a nice pitch by Dice-K on the outside corner, whereas Hunter’s pitch was a big fat meatball. Kotch was smart on that one for sure, his priority was advancing the runner, he knew they’d pitch him on the outside corner to make that harder so he looked there and put a very nice swing on it.

I’m glad the Angels offense is doing much better than it was earlier in the year even though Figgy isn’t doing nearly as well as last year but man do they still frustrate me at times. Things that frustrated me. Kendrick swinging at a 3-0 pitch with 0 outs and runners at first and 2nd and Dice-K struggling to find the zone. HK only has 3 homers all season and letting him swing 3-0 gives Dice-K an opportunity to get out of the jam by throwing one strike. Earlier in the game, Figgy had gotten on, Dice-K gets into a 3-1 count on Kotch and they do a hit and run. The whole point of a 3-1 count is you have worked the pitcher into a count where you can look for your pitch, zone him, and swing only if it’s your pitch. By sending the runner, the batter is going to swing at even the pitcher’s strikes. 3-2 I don’t have a problem with him going at all, but why risk getting thrown out at 2nd on a 3-1 pitch when it’s likely that if you JUST WAIT 1 pitch you’ll be at 2nd w/o even having to run…...

Also did anyone catch Phillips talking about GA and how he excels at working the count? That cracked me up pretty good. I normally think he’s pretty astute but man he’s dead wrong on that one.

Agree with almost everything here

Kotch did well to take Dice-K deep on that pitch, it was a good pitch, whilst Hunter’s was wheelhouse. Also agree with the hit and run scenario, didn’t make much sense to me either unless Soth was trying to confuse the Sux by doing something totally unexpected.

As for the Phillips thing: I agree with you that GA hacks a lot, but he likes to swing at his pitch, even if it’s the first pitch he sees. But he is pretty good at working the count when he gets into a deep count. GA is pretty darn good at fouling off pitches if he falls behind and pretty darn patient as well when it comes to waiting for his pitch. And he likes yummy fastballs.
