He completely sucked the life out of the offense, and made a critical error. If the Angels were down only 3-1, chances are Speier wouldn’t have pitched.
Santana didn’t pitch badly. 3 ER in 7 IP, 8Ks, 0BB.
he can’t hit consistently, can’t throw runners out. but in the face of no other viable options he is the best we got unlike Gary. out of our 6 outfielders Gary is my last option
I tuned in late and what do I see? GMJ, reported with a small tear in the patellar tendon, starts and plays in the game tonight? No offense to Gary, but when I read this news the other day, I thought this “officially” put him on the bench indefinitely. What in the bloody hell??
he couldn’t even advance a runner. he did nothing that a major league player is expected to do. if anything, his job is to play defense, and he didn’t even do that tonight. if he isn’t in the lineup, the tone of the game is entirely different.
If so, look us up in View 414 Row B seats 6 & 7. I would have had Maicer Izturis sacrifice in the first inning with nobody out and runners on first and second. Maicer excells at rbis with two outs not with no outs. Blame of the game—Gary Matthews Jr. hands down. Lifetime Paul Byrd is 6-3 when I see him pitch. Ervin Santana fell to 23-6. I absolutely picked the Angels to win Monday night. You cannot win them all.
He has not bought into the Soth’s system and it’s gonna get his ass run outta here. His ground ball to short from the left side with Howie on second was just about the last straw for me.
I really do want to give him the benefit of the doubt though.
im done giving him the benefit of the doubt, ive waited a year and a half for him to pull it together, and he has yet to do it. he is not helping this team in anyway, if he wants to be on a winner so (july bomb) fucking bad, he can contribute by sitting his ass on the damn bench.
great now im pissed, one more thing to add on to the i hate GMJ list
“He’s got to get out there and play,” Scioscia said. “As a player plays, you can’t evaluate him until he gets out there and does what he needs to do. We’ll get a read on him. You’re not going to get the whole story in one night, but if he’s going to contribute, he needs to get out there.”
EXCUSE ME ?
1 – He’s not going to contribute 2 – If that’s the philisophy, then why on earth did it take so long for Rivera to get a decent chance ?
GMJr. is a career .250 hitter. That’s the BEST that can be expected of him, IF he’s healthy. That is exactly what he’s going to contribute, at best. If he’s not healthy, it will be something less than that. If healthy, Juan Rivera will do better than that.
i gotta think Santana
long ball killed him.
yeswecan - July 21, 2008
Blame
GMJr.
He completely sucked the life out of the offense, and made a critical error. If the Angels were down only 3-1, chances are Speier wouldn’t have pitched.
Santana didn’t pitch badly. 3 ER in 7 IP, 8Ks, 0BB.
jjackflash - July 21, 2008
that's uh, pretty good pitching.
You strike out >1 per IP, you are pitching pretty well.
shiftyeyedgoat - July 21, 2008
Agreed
jjackflash - July 21, 2008
GMJ was playing tonight? What?
Stirrups - July 21, 2008
gary
or scioscia for putting him in. i seriously don’t understand it. what happened to playing the guys who give you the best chance to win
UCIHalo - July 21, 2008
Yeah, GMJ
0-4, 2K, 3 LOB, ugly fielding..
just plain nasty.
shiftyeyedgoat - July 21, 2008
Is this really a question?
Ask yourself: What changed from the previous 5 games, which we happen to have won all of?
Answer: 0-4, 2K’s, 2 weak grounders, 3 men left on, and an error that ended up allowing a run. GMJ is your loser.
TheOptimist - July 21, 2008
how many of those rallys involved Juan Rivera?
UCIHalo - July 21, 2008
Good point. Rivera was also held hitless in tonight's game.
And he failed to execute a single defensive play all game.
Rivera: BOTG.
Stirrups - July 21, 2008
Basically all of them.
Though the Beckett one he got PH for. He still got a hit and a walk that game though, IIRC
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
Atleast 3.
Reggie pinch ran for him alot in the late game, but they were Juan’s hits. Anyway, Juan’s statline in the last 5 games:
6-14, 2B, 3 BB’s, 1K, 1 RBI .428 .529 .500. Yeah.
TheOptimist - July 21, 2008
...
head
hit
keyboard
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
GMJ
though in fairness I give the assist to Izturis for going 0-4 with 5 LOB
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
I lean to Izzy.
GMJ we simply hate. And he sucks, living down to our expectations.
But Izzy was the black hole in our serious rally opportunities this game.
Stirrups - July 21, 2008
Yeah, but Izzy still had some solid D at least
GMJ put us down in the second with that error.
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
Yeah, it's kind of coin flip till you consider the defensive difference.
TheOptimist - July 21, 2008
GMJ
though in fairness I give the assist to Izturis for going 0-4 with 5 LOB
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
One more time, but with EMPHASIS!
Stirrups - July 21, 2008
HAR!
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
Gary is the black hole of death
i am starting to believe the dude is cursed
UCIHalo - July 21, 2008
hey!
Black Hole, that’s racist!
Seriously they just need to give GMJ the rest of the year off and start fresh with him in 2009.
elricsi - July 21, 2008
ROFL!!!!!
acuda27 - July 22, 2008
What's with Mathis?
dude is batting .209, but .360 with RISP.
yeswecan - July 21, 2008
Some peope don't have much, but know when to use it.
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
yea that dude can't hit
never has. he is on the gmj plan
UCIHalo - July 21, 2008
Unlike GMJ though
he’s clutch. And that’s good enough while Naps is out.
Zu Long - July 21, 2008
im okay with mathis for now
he can’t hit consistently, can’t throw runners out. but in the face of no other viable options he is the best we got unlike Gary. out of our 6 outfielders Gary is my last option
UCIHalo - July 21, 2008
Plus, Mathis calls an excellent game. A lot of the Catcher's position doesn't
show up in the statline. Also, Mathis makes 9.6 million less per year.
TheOptimist - July 21, 2008
"Snake Eyes" Gary Matthews, Junior -- Officially Worthless
But worthy of today’s BOTG. Gawd, did Stoneman get suckered into taking this journeyman POS based upon ONE stellar season.
PieceOfAase - July 21, 2008
Sucker punched from nowhere
I tuned in late and what do I see? GMJ, reported with a small tear in the patellar tendon, starts and plays in the game tonight? No offense to Gary, but when I read this news the other day, I thought this “officially” put him on the bench indefinitely. What in the bloody hell?

Big Easy Halofan - July 21, 2008
GMJ in an EASY choice for BOTG
Dude looked horrible up at the plate and on the field.
A knee injury is a very serious injury for a baseball player. You take a players legs out from under him and his swing goes with it.
MH252525 - July 21, 2008
he must've had a knee injury for his entire career
minus 2006, of course

GMJ!
snowhor - July 21, 2008
Santana for sure (Although the offense sucked, especially against 3-10 Byrd)
That’s what happenes when you elevate fastballs. they get hit, and hit hard. and Santana got hit hard all night.
HaloPride - July 21, 2008
Loss!
Guess that makes my record for games in attendance to 1-1!
scottnak - July 21, 2008
Are you going the Tuesday Tribe @ Halos game?

At least you are at .500...
My attendance is at a .350 win percentage!!!! I was not there last night, though.
Downing Rules - July 22, 2008
Piling on
HGH – in spite his $10 million contract, I was surprised to see his name in the boxscore.
I thought he’d been banished to rot on the pine for a while.
Still hoping he turns it around, but he isn’t helping himself on the field.
BBFan1 - July 22, 2008
My thoughts exactly...
Downing Rules - July 22, 2008
Definitely GMJ
He has no reason being in when Juan RIvera is hitting as well as he is. I missed Aybar today as well. Horrible fly out with bases loaded by Izturis.
angelfanjb - July 22, 2008
HGH.....When I saw the lineup I thought to myself, OH boy we might lose this one.
And sure enough we did.
acuda27 - July 22, 2008
Izturis or GMJ
They both sucked. Pick one.
hk47 - July 22, 2008
Snooze-Fest
BOTGGMJ
An inconsistent offense will be the death-knoll for this team. Mark my words.
You think you’re gonna go through Boston like that?
Agressive base-running is great, but it don’t do any good if you can’t even get on base.
Scuff - July 22, 2008
what are you talking about?
The Halos were all over the basepaths tonight…....just no one could get a clutch hit to bring in them in….Halos had RISP all night long….
norcaliangelsfan - July 22, 2008
