Skip all the “it’s only half way through the year”,”depends on if Frankie signs”,”we don’t need a big bat”,”Juan is the answer” comments.
Just play along.
Of guys who have 09 options with their current clubs, I’d also add Carlos Delgado and maybe Ken Griffey Jr. (1 yr w/ opt). I’m not a Giambi or Man Ram fan.
I looked over the FA list and you’ve already named the three big-get guys of next season. I don’t like ANY of them over just keeping Rivera. If you ask me, Rivera would be THE steal FA of next year. He will be dirt cheap for a starting OF most likely, and sans another freak broken leg, he will probably be just as good as anyone else on the list.
Burrell is king of playing well only when the game is not close.
When the game is within a run or two (like most Angels games are), Burrell clams up and strikes out. But watching the Phils win or lose big, you will see Burrell put up huge numbers.
We don’t want someone who can’t hit in close games, we have enough of them already.
I know I know

The best hitter in that list is Dunn.
I don’t know why anyone would want Griffey. That’d be like another team targeting GA as their big bat.

Say no to Burrell
