In ESPN’s video montage of the first half, I counted at least three walk-off home runs against us (Longoria, Quentin, and Hamilton last week). There were no clips of Angels doing anything positive at all.
Sad to say that he is the biggest name in this. No Vlad, no Mannie, no Ortiz, no Howard, no Griffey, no ARod. This thing is all about star power and they have none.
I’m personally happy to see baseball coverage on ESPN that doesn’t involve the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, or Cubs. Unfortunately the derby is in that dumb stadium so they will have plenty to talk about.
They just said that Yankee Stadium is the most hitorical sports venue in the world.
Then why are they tearing it down? I would tend think the Coliseum in Rome is the most historical sports venue in the world, which by the way, they have not torn down.
There are a couple of other sports venues with a significantly high number of great sports moments in history, which would rate at or near that of Yankee Stadium… Historically Circus Maximus
Globally Wimbledon Wembley St. Andrews Monaco Grand Prix Pamplona, Spain Roland Garros
End even here in the US, we have Notre Dame Stadium Michigan Stadium Churchill Downs Indianapolis Motor Speedway The Rose Bowl Boston Garden (which they also tore down) LA Memorial Coliseum (What? A couple of Summer Olympics is chop suey?) Augusta National Golf Course The Rose Bowl Daytona Motor Speedway
And then, even inside NYC... Madison Square Garden
And this is not counting several major venues in Europe and South America dedicated to soccer, a sport far, far older than baseball! Hell, even Fenway and Wrigley can stand up to Yankee Stadium in even the limited terms of US baseball history.
or do you also find it retarded… all these mlb’ers with shiny new home-vid cameras? every year I see these guys doing this and I don’t get it. just enjoy the damn show LIVE… ESPNs coverage is pretty good… just freakin’ Tivo it. i doubt they’ll be watching their footage at home… that is unless they got some good shots of Erin Andrew’s ass.
just seems like most of them do it because they saw someone else do it in years past, and now everyone’s doing it… it’s the thing to do… buy a new camera and pretend like your making a home movie for your fam.
Its amazing to thing Josh Hamilton was latterly smoking crack in a alley alone a few years ago. The kid is now admired my every major league player, well except 4 the pricks papi and a-hole rod.
First!
Wish we had an Angel to cheer for today, but if it means that Vlad’s swing isn’t screwed up for the second half, I’ll get over it.

also ellis had the walk off grand slam.
even though torii hit a walk of grand slam which was like 200 times more dramatic than the one the As hit. I was about to post this too.

Worst HR Derby lineup ever
Is there even a major market player, let alone star, in this thing?

boy is she a hot one.
Red - July 14, 2008
I love me some Josh Hamilton.
I know he’s on the hated Rangers, but you gotta respect a guy strong enough to put all his demons behind him and come back to the game.
The fact that he’s on all of my fantasy team probably helps.
cardinalwraith - July 14, 2008
agreed
hauldog - July 14, 2008
Agreed on both points.
Even if fantasy talk is near-taboo haha.
And no, the fantasy points were so not worth his walkoff last week. I still threw my hat at the TV.
101halo - July 14, 2008
I agree. I still got pissed off even if he was on my team.
I’ll take a Halos win over a fantasy win any day.
cardinalwraith - July 14, 2008
I'm going to go with Berkman
Red - July 14, 2008
A really cool name would be "Lance Braun"

Uggla was crushing some of those balls.

norcaliangelsfan - July 14, 2008
Yeah, really.
cardinalwraith - July 14, 2008
ummm right...
like i said… the ESPN coverage is pretty good. and I don’t think their wives or girlfriends will enjoy an hour long shot of Erin Andrews ass and gams.
Red - July 14, 2008
But you don't get solo coverage of your family member.
Yeah, ESPN has nice coverage when they’re batting, but how about when they’re walking around just enjoying being an All-Star?
cardinalwraith - July 14, 2008
i don't buy it...
just seems like most of them do it because they saw someone else do it in years past, and now everyone’s doing it… it’s the thing to do… buy a new camera and pretend like your making a home movie for your fam.
maybe it’s just me being cynical.

Also, apparently Josh Hamilton believes in God.
cardinalwraith - July 14, 2008
So
does that make him a Angel fan?
Funke5ive - July 14, 2008
Morneau hit 8! Tied with Berkman for the lead.

howiestheman - July 14, 2008
28 by Hamilton..
i can’t believe he did that.

SFV88 - July 14, 2008
"smoking crack in a alley alone"
thats gangsta!
Funke5ive - July 14, 2008
Yea Hamilton makes Steve Howe and Darrell Strawberry look weak.
SFV88 - July 14, 2008
Now Canseco

howiestheman - July 14, 2008
The HR Derby
is really an endurance contest.
It seems like the guy who goes big in the first round always tires out in the finals.
TheTypingFiend - July 14, 2008
thats how GA and Vlad won.......
by not being a slugger….......just being a hitter…....
norcaliangelsfan - July 14, 2008
Yeah. I was hoping he'd win
Because winning the HR derby screws you up for a few months see: Abreu 2005 and Vlad 2007.
red floyd - July 14, 2008
he might still be messed up...........
norcaliangelsfan - July 14, 2008
over at LSB you would think they just lost the World Series.............
norcaliangelsfan - July 14, 2008
can't blame 'em
It’s the most national atttention they’ve drawn in history.
yeswecan - July 14, 2008
Typical of Rangers fans in general, they are always counting their chickens before they are hatched.
They put on a big show with all their great hitting but come up short of getting the job done in the end.
44FAN - July 14, 2008
My guy Morneau WINS! Ha, ha, ha, ha.
