Right now, we all feel down, after losing to Fremont at home, but what is the answer? C.C. Sabathia? Jr. Griffey? Ichiro and Barry Bonds? We don’t have the pieces for a trade, and if one could be strung together, would it be worth mortgaging our future? I wish I had a funny joke or anecdote, I don’t, losing sucks. I have yet to utter an F-bomb, FUCK CHOAKLAND AND THIER CRAPPY COLORS AND STADIUM ! ! !
a couple of weeks ago for beerfest, wearin my gear in a near empty stadium. However the natives in attendance heckled the hell outta me, of course I only had one thing to say, scoreboard baby, we beat the Phills 3-2, and went up by four and a half. Being hated never felt SOOO GOOOOD
I got free tickets for the A’s and Marlins. However, all choakland fans in attendance felt it their duty to inform me as to every at bat while we played the Phills in Philly, that is until K-Rod shut down the Phills, and choakland lost to the Marlins 6-3
how does a trade for a 38 YO KGJ with a sub .389 SLG cost more than adam dunn?
my vote is to give a shot to willits and rivera. I think that if the angels are gonna give rivera more than 2 starts a month, they should sit him down, and tell him so. It seemed like he was trying to make a splash and jack every ball he saw out of the park to make an impression. If he was told hed start and his job was secure for a week or so, then i think the production wuold be alot better
The notion that Griffey has any value to someone is like another team targeting a trade for GA to boost its offense. Dunn is one of the best power hitters in the game.
My vote also goes for benching GA, releasing GMJ, giving Rivera and Willits playing time and putting Napoli at DH when he doesn’t catch. Rivera and Willits haven’t done so well because they’ve only combined for seven at-bats or so this year. Napoli is in a slump because of inconsistent playing time. Give these guys playing time and they’ll produce.
I dont like that he used steroids, but come on who wasnt back then? He will jumpstart this offense in a heart beat at DH. We can pay him league minimum since we all know he would LOVE to play for the LAofA
i honestly dont like ANY of those solutions.......
so i would say NONE of the ABOVE….....but then the offense still sucks…......and then im still beeeeeetchin…......so i will offer a solution that isnt there…....
Xavier Nady or Jason Bay. I like either of those guys more than Holliday. But how the hell do we convince Reagins to make a move? I feel so impotent (as in powerless).
that would sell the farm for a half season of power-ish hitting from a guy who is going to want a multi-year contract but can barely walk to the top of the dugout steps.
and i realize that adam dunn is universally disliked by joe morgan types, but he is one of the top power hitters in the game, and landing him would take a lot more than reggie willits and nick adenhart. think howie kendrick or ervin santana. not that i’m advocating that. i just think you’re selling dunn way too short.
1) Do a salary dump on GMJ. Admit the mistake and move on. 2) Make a run at Matt Holiday, Grady Sizemore or some other young stud hitter 3) Keep Rivera, get him ABs
This team needs bold action – why not try to get a player of Sizemore’s capabilities? If Reagins tries and Cleveland is not interested – so be it. BUT AT LEAST SHOW CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION TO IMPROVE THIS TEAM!!!!
The Halos do not need a KGJ or Dunn – it will do nothing long-term to improve the franchise.
if we get holliday or sizemore, and drop GMJ, our OF would be Vlad, Torii, and Siziday. There wouldnt be much room for juan espescially with GA stealing some DH
The first question to Soth of course was regarding the recent offensive slump. His repsonses were pretty generic but he did mention that they are noticing a lot of “uneveness” with regards to guys up at the plate. On one end, they’ve got guys getting up there and literaly swinging for the fences (i.e. showing very little plate discipline becuase they feel pressure to get something going) at every at-bat and at the same time they’ve got guys that are taking at-bats with very little agressiveness. It sounds like Soth was saying that there is almost no sync in the line-up that we all used to take for granted as automatic (Figgy gets the lead-off hit, Izzy kocks him over to third, Big Daddy steps up to serve up a RibEye, etc.)
Soth also mentioned that they have every confidence in the offense they have now. They’ve known that since the beginning of the year. Not sure how to read that, but it sounds like they are just going to continue to work with what they have.
On a funny side note, on a later segement, they had Bob Boone (Washington Nats player development) on as a guest and they asked him about what he thought of the Angels current scoring slump and he was basically like “Boo-Hoo, Cry Me a River”. I guess he meant that sometimes premier teams like the Angels often forget how good they have it compared to the rest of the league
Is this the “farm” that can’t hit a damn? Is this the “farm” that is absolutely EMBARRASSING us, even against mediocre pitching? I mean we got shutdown by Derek Lowe for crissakes. What else needs to happen before we press the panic button? I despise Bonds, so that is off the table, but otherwise any of the poll ideas sounds good to me. Yes, we have good pitching, but losing games 3 to zero as we get swept in the playoffs is no consolation. As much as I dislike Oakland (even being relocated to the Bay Area), they are doing almost as well as us with a little over 1/3 our payroll. Yes, they can’t attract fans even giving away tix, but that is not the point.
there is no way that barry bonds will even be productive for the angels.
I dont hate barry, but i would advise against signing him unless it is part of a major OF change (invloving getting rid of GMJ). We already have 6 OFers. We dont need anyother (well, he really wouldnt be able to play the OF, since he is horrible in the field). He would be a fulltime DH. And he doesnt fit with our philosophy at all. If he bats 4th, infront of torii (would scoscia do back to back lefties), he will walk about 25% of the time. He miht not be able to score on a double. Say goodbye to first to 3rd. say goodbye to agressive baseball when bonds steps to the plate (or on the bases). I dont believe in “clogging the bases” (the term is stupid, baser runners are a good thing) but bonds wont be able to run the bases, and with our singles hitting lineup, it will take 3 hits after he gets on base to score a run.
1. He is famously anti-Angels-way; as others have said, he represents everything the Angels don’t want to appear to be in public. 2. His high-OBP, high-SLG approach seems to confuse the Angels. The .276/.480/.565 line he put up last year would make him first on the team in OBP and SLG. 3. As AA described in the parent, even if he gets on base, there are real questions as to whether he would be able to score from second on a single. There are few players out there for whom OBP is not an intrinsic advantage, but Bonds would gum up the Angels baserunning advantages, requiring more SLG from the batters behind him than they might be able to provide. 4. He would disrupt that DH-as-rest-home-for-Vlad-etc. plan that Scioscia and Stoneman/Reagins have cooked up since 2004.
so I don’t see Bounds disrupting #4, although, I only see Vladdy sticking around until next year, when we will pick up the club option, then let him walk.
Those are all reasons that Bonds-to-Anaheim will never happen. On top of that, there’s no way of determining he can even come close to the same numbers he had last year if the Angels signed him. Hes a year older, and in the big boy league.
So lets forget the Bonds talk, and move on to the first option, which the most people here seem to be in favor of anyways. Give Rivera and Willits 2-3 weeks to see if they can give this line-up some continuity. If we get near the deadline and see that its still not enough, then explore the trade market. But I honestly don’t think anything dramatic needs to be done. There isn’t a move out there that would turn the Angels into an offensive powerhouse. But all we really need to be is an average offense with our pitching as good as it is. And that can be accomplished with a few minor in-house tweaks, hurting the feelings of a couple of veterans, and maximizing the potential of our lineup (such as Kotchman batting 3rd or 4th instead of 7th or 8th).
personally, i think this team wide funk is temporary as it has it us the last few seasons. we should at least give it a week to work itself out. THEN, if we are serious about adding another bat, reagins has to to his due dilligence and look ast all options. which means, giving bonds a look.
Bonds is Darth Vader and GA blooping it into left so Bonds can boot it
while Desmond takes third lathered with Joe Buck’s idiotic commentary about how Desmond caused Barry to whiff will never be the same if Bonds becomes an Angel.
Doesn’t signing Bonds sound like sleeping with your older step-sister?
