Apparently, once in a while he scored a run or two
and after a while, all the sabermatricians added them all up and realised that GA has indeed scored more runs than any Angels player in history. Whaddya know.
fresno state leading georgia 6-0 with 2 outs in the top 8. detwiler up (6 rbis tonight). just singled, great play by the RF to keep it a single, and runners on the corners with 2 outs for Fresno
even though i said in a previous post that there is not much of a difference in the CERA between mathis and napoli with relievers… (more side salad isthe name of the post)
there has to be some merit to it, but as of yet, there is no real way to extrapolate a meaning. but wat might have meaning is average innings per catcher (meaning, how many innings the catcher can get the pitcher to go through). i found out that mathis saves our bullpen 81 innings throughout the course of the year. but those numbers are probably flawed somehow…
What a lousy time to show up
Jesus, Ervin.

OK I am already feeling the need to burn my F-bomb for June
Get Speier the F — out of there! We’re still in striking range!
highlandhalo - June 25, 2008
Justin, if their hitting it to opfield, it's time to start working the outside corner.
TheOptimist - June 25, 2008
Wow wouldn't it be nice if Speier just pitched a nice inning here and gave the offense a chance to come back
but no …

Reverse jinx.
scareduck - June 25, 2008

norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
Jinx!

anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
You only get 1 visit per pitcher per inning, gotta make a change on the second one.
leftwing - June 25, 2008
ahhh
well, might as well make 1 visit per inning then
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
Come on, one more
leftwing - June 25, 2008
that was a big out
norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008

norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
I think speier is our next closer.
melvintoast - June 25, 2008
yes, a very Frankie-esque inning
tanana40 - June 25, 2008

‘Oh, you did not throw me that pitch again!’
TheOptimist - June 25, 2008
Could GA have scored on that?
I guess we just gotta trust in Ebel
PieceOfAase - June 25, 2008
Probably not
Hit it so hard that it ricocheted right back at the fielder after hitting the foot of the wall.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008

stezo - June 25, 2008
hmmm, maybe
thank god we have 5 outfields so vlad doesnt have to play the outfield afterwards. we could put juan in RF
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
theyd make sense. id even prefer juan > gmj
stezo - June 25, 2008
doubt it.....howard is gonna get it done
norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
If there's still 1 out I think you'll see Vladdy come out

Very much so.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
Though
to be fair, everything else was outside, and that was inside, so it would be hard for Juice to gage.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
yes according to gameday
norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
The first one or the second one?
The first one was close, good to foul off. The second was a bender in the dirt that Juice couldn’t lay off.
TheOptimist - June 25, 2008
Ugh.
But we tied it, that’s the important thing.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
Brand new ball game now.

norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
top 8 in the CWS deciding game
fresno state leading georgia 6-0 with 2 outs in the top 8. detwiler up (6 rbis tonight). just singled, great play by the RF to keep it a single, and runners on the corners with 2 outs for Fresno
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
I think GMJ will improve over the length of his contract.
Let’s not be so harsh.
bc56274 - June 25, 2008
Q sighting in RF
44FAN - June 25, 2008
does anyone know why?
cupie - June 25, 2008
double switch.......pitcher spot up 2nd next inning
norcaliangelsfan - June 25, 2008
Double switch for next inning.
Juice comes out.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
so why didnt vlad pinch hit?
saved for later?
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
Not gonna pinch hit for a real hitter I guess.
Vlad’s gotta hitting streak to think about after all.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
true, i completely forgot about that.
why is juan not in RF?
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
Q's got a better avg.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
so juan would play RF and quinlan could pinch hit
congrats aaron boone, nice play by figgy
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
That's a waste of bench players though.
We don’t know how long this will go.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
double switch
Q will hit in pitcher’s spot, pitcher’s spot now GMJ’s old spot
tanana40 - June 25, 2008
Basically setting up Shields to go multiple innings
if necessary.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
That's the only explanation I can think of
Maybe Vlad isn’t available after all
highlandhalo - June 25, 2008
No
He can hit, just not play RF.
Zu Long - June 25, 2008
Nor can Quinlan!
:)
highlandhalo - June 25, 2008
He CAN play.
He’s got a noodle arm though.

Pinch hit Napoli for Mathis.
44FAN - June 25, 2008
nope
even though i said in a previous post that there is not much of a difference in the CERA between mathis and napoli with relievers… (more side salad isthe name of the post)
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
Catcher ERA is a fake statistic.
It doesn’t tell you anything. It’s just noise. There’s no statistical ability to repeat a CERA from year to year, even with the same pitching staff.
cardinalwraith - June 25, 2008
its actually inconclusive
there has to be some merit to it, but as of yet, there is no real way to extrapolate a meaning. but wat might have meaning is average innings per catcher (meaning, how many innings the catcher can get the pitcher to go through). i found out that mathis saves our bullpen 81 innings throughout the course of the year. but those numbers are probably flawed somehow…
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008
Mathis whiffs, screw his CERA
44FAN - June 25, 2008
i was saying that according to CERA
there is no diff between naps and mathis with relievers, so napoli should be pinch hitting
anaheim angels - June 25, 2008

Scot Shields threw 200+ pitches in college games.
Throwing a lot of pitches isn’t that unheard of in college.
TheOptimist - June 25, 2008
It wasn't back in the day.
But now the concept of pitch counts is recognized throughout baseball at all levels.

I just always watch him surrender a lead. I never see him when hes on his game. I should just turn off the TV when he pitches.
