Scott Schoeneweis hasn’t played for Mike Scioscia in five years and, in the visitors’ clubhouse at Angel Stadium, there’s no way Scioscia could overhear a conversation from his office across the ballpark.
Yet Schoeneweis lowers his voice and leans in.
“I was always trying to please him,” he says. “I wanted him to like me.”

Great article.
I love how the first thing Scioscia did with Schoenweis was make him his bitch in front of the whole team. Gotta teach the a-holes some humility.

neat!
I love the inside-the-clubhouse stories. Fascinating. One more small clue into the minds of those dudes…

made me like Schoenweis again

aww, Scioscia...
though this pretty much just reinforces his hatred for all things rookie and unquestioned love for vets.

great article
"I don’t want any of this to sound like a negative," he says. "It’s what he expected. And I didn’t know any better. What he’s done here and what I was a part of, it’s tremendous. They just win. They find a way to win. Those teams, especially that World Series team, they weren’t the most talented teams. But, they found a way."
That is how i feel about this years team. With the pitching staff thin, our poor run differential, and our low BA, but we still have the best record in the american league.

thin pitching staff?
you mean when Lackey was hurt and Escobar still being out?
tanana40 - June 24, 2008
He's talking about Santana's weight...
;)

as of now (escobar still a decent ways away)
our pitchig staff is thin. Who pitches if someone goes down? Adenhart? Moseley?

knock on wood

Well... since Wood is prone to the strikeout
maybe he’d be a strikeout pitcher.

I think the pitching staff is deep
the starting staff has 3 aces and 2 good starters (look at most teams 4 and 5 starters and compare them to Garland and Weaver). The bullpen is deep, Frankie, Shields, Jose, and maybe someday even Speier again. If we lose a starter, we would we struggle with a new #5 but what team wouldn’t.

that is what i meant
but escobar and lackey have both lost weight

good one
