Panther of the Game: Ervin Santana
Might be the only time you ever see the player of the game leave 8 men on base.
Might be the only time you can laugh about 4 Angel errors in a game. Might be the only game you ever see Casey Kotchman commit 2 errors. Ditto for Garret Anderson safely reaching base 5 times.

9 k's for Voodoo
GA is neat
cupie - June 20, 2008
10K
if you count his own.
shiftyeyedgoat - June 20, 2008
good call on Voodoo as panther
tanana40 - June 20, 2008
Hudler on the radio post game show
talking about the Angels, “it was a well played game, except for the 4 errors.” Got to love him.
tanana40 - June 20, 2008
21 runs over the past 4 games
With about a thousand men left on base. Ever since I challenged scareduck to bet whether they’d average more than 5 a game from here on out!
mattwelch - June 20, 2008
I think...
we’ve found the secret to unleashing the powah!!
scottnak - June 20, 2008
bashing scareduck's ego until precious runs and offense ooze from his open wounds?
shiftyeyedgoat - June 20, 2008
THINKING POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!!
scareduck - June 20, 2008
and he lost another bet today
cupie - June 20, 2008
All that negativity builds up tons of bad karma.
Betting against obsessively negative people is betting on the side of Universal WILL. ;-)
Zu Long - June 20, 2008
Nice beat down from 7000 miles away
(or whatever it is from DC to OC)
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
'Bout half that.
Zu Long - June 20, 2008
BTW-
It’s 23 runs. Get your facts straight mister!
Zu Long - June 20, 2008
Whoops!
Thanks for the correction.
mattwelch - June 21, 2008
i think Vladdy deserves it..........
but thats just me….....hitting 285 now….....its nice to have him back.
norcaliangelsfan - June 20, 2008
Santana was good, but ...
Vladdy started the offense off right.
Panther is Vlad
Downing Rules - June 20, 2008
Ditto on Panther for Voodoo
Vladdy is just getting back to where he needs to be. He needs his mates (HK, Figgy) around him setting the table.
El Scorcho July for Vlad?
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
In another game
Vlad would be panther no question. But Santana deserves this one. It’s hard to lose when your pitcher K’s nine guys and only allows 2 hits.
Zu Long - June 20, 2008
Esp when (as the Soth says)
this team is built on Pitching and Defense
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
Look at Voodoo's line
It’s sick
Thank God we still have him instead of that fat-ass playing 1B for the Tigers
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
Yup.
We worry about Kotch’s 2 errors. Cabrera has FIVE, and he spent the first 14 games at third (where he also racked up five errors, for a total of 10 on the year). That’s not even taking into account his god awful ZR.
Zu Long - June 20, 2008
Black Magic Meneo
Ervin jsut 2-Hit the best offensive team in baseball in THEIR OWN HITTER’S PARK. That is EL PANTERO if ever there was a big cat!
Rev Halofan - June 20, 2008
El Pantero
I sense a new HH nickname to be broken out at special occasions, kind of like a nice champagne or a 20-year-old Highland Park whuskey.
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
As long as it is not HUNTINGTON PARK WHISKEY
That would be my drainwater from 90-year-old pipes…
Rev Halofan - June 20, 2008
FFS!
90210 has 20 doubles so far this season. That’s a nice number.
highlandhalo - June 20, 2008
An honorable mention Panther goes to The Soth
For not starting GMJ
PieceOfAase - June 20, 2008
Panther!
Downing Rules - June 20, 2008
Double panther
K3YEROUT - June 20, 2008
El Meneo is PANTHER!!!!!!
acuda27 - June 20, 2008
Was it Hunter and Figgins for the two correct pregame answers?
Downing Rules - June 20, 2008
Santana now 6-1 with a 3.10 ERA on the road.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for those of you who gave up on him, or who thought his crazy home-road splits were anything more than a temporary statistical fluke, to revise and extend your remarks at this time.
mattwelch - June 20, 2008
I blame da bad voodoo
FLUKE???? ...he musta sacrificed a really delicious goat or sumfin…
Rev Halofan - June 20, 2008
We can all go back and read our predictions and analysis of players or team issues
from a year ago and find them in need of revision on the grandest scale. Most everything we speculate about and claim to be true today will be read as mostly foolish in the not so distant future.
I just went back and read the johnsamo chronicles this past week and the most entertaining thing about this was the surrounding comments by the other knowledgeable and sane fans. It was amazing how much of what they predicted and deduced about players and the team’s performance turned out to be the farthest thing from what transpired six months to a year later. This just proves how unpredictable baseball is, and its players are, no matter how well we think we have it figured out.
44FAN - June 21, 2008
Panther of the game goes to Charlie Manuel's middle name.
Fuqua.
Ps…i’m drunk. Children of Men is on. I think i’ll watch it for the umpteenth time.
Mayheminthehood - June 20, 2008
Fantastic film
As an editor, I applaud the decision not to cut sometimes. Probably one of the best films of 2006 that not many people have seen.
ReggieBullits - June 20, 2008
EASILY the best film of that year. The long tracking shots seriously immerse you into the action. Cuaron and his crew really pulled off some amazing stuff. Besides the "car scene", the end is basically 3 or 4 long takes. Fricking brilliant.
Plus, it’s only about 90 minutes, so it’s one that I can seriously watch over and over again.
Easily top 5 movies of this decade.
Mayheminthehood - June 20, 2008
The battle scene in town is the tits
Perfectly choreographed. It’s absolutely perfect. I get chills thinking about it.
ReggieBullits - June 20, 2008
I liked the film (saw it in theaters)
But I didnt like the end, Not cuz the dude kicked the bucket but because you never know if the Chick made it onto the ship with her baby. It left me thinking that her little boat sank before the big ship got to her.
acuda27 - June 20, 2008
Hahaha. Dude, you sound EXACTLY like my parents. If they dont know the exact way a movie ends, they don't like it(or if they do, they just sit there complaining about no definite ending).
I’m pretty sure she got on that boat…even if it was going to sink, the Human Project boat was only maybe 200 yards away. She made it.
Mayheminthehood - June 20, 2008
LOL I figured she got on the boat but I wanted to see it with my own eyes....Like your parents! : )
But I did think it was a really good movie.
acuda27 - June 20, 2008
Was at the game tonight
And have to say Santana was the Panther of the Game. He was dealing tonight. Especially in the middle of the game when he Struck out the side by striking out Howard, Burrell and Jenkins.
Also, I saw something I probably wouldn’t have believed unless I saw it with my own eyes. I saw GA bust his ass down the line on his last AB. Which was in contrast to the way he coasted to home and almost got thrown out at the plate
billhune - June 20, 2008
scottnak - June 21, 2008
Scott I dont know if Im right but I think Rev ment total bases....
Like Single = 1 base, Double = 2 bases ect.
He wrote total bases reached safley so I think that would be interprited as if a player tried to stretch it into a double and got out at second it would only count as a single (1 Base).
Dont know if Im write but thats the way I viewed the question as well as other fellow HHers
acuda27 - June 21, 2008
Its late.....last sentance should say right not write.
If your wondering what Im doin up at 4am, I just finished watching American Beauty for the first time on HBO. It kicked ass!!!!
acuda27 - June 21, 2008
I believe that's what i did
Basically I saw what’s the furthest base the player got to at the end of the inning. And that’d be the number ot bases they reached safely
scottnak - June 21, 2008
Hey Scott
Not that it will change the scoring, but GMJ had 1 PA. You had him down for 0 PA and 1 TB. Since he walked, he ended up with 0 AB but did have the 1 PA.
Just in case Rev does a PGG that involves PA again.
billhune - June 21, 2008
Ah yes.
I just went and copied down the AB numbers down the line. You’re right. Forgot to take into account the fact that ABs aren’t necessarily equal to PAs.
scottnak - June 21, 2008
i was there
santana was amazing
and the errors didnt matter!
and vlady with the 1st inning homer and howie trying to stretch a single into a double and being called safe! AWESOME!
kingfish - June 21, 2008
Hey Kingfish
Where were you sitting, I was at the game also. I was sitting in the Hall of Fame Club level in Section 221 1st row, right behind home plate.
Wish I was able to go down for tonights and tomorrows game, but I am not going to be able to make it,
billhune - June 21, 2008

halofan4life - June 21, 2008

In front of the press box and broadcast booths. I saw a guy after the game wearing an retro Reggie Jackson Angels Jersey.
billhune - June 21, 2008
