It doesn't PHYSICALLY make it harder to hit a specific spot
but it damn well makes it harder to throw where you want in that, if you throw it in a spot that should be called, it’s not going that way and you’ll end up walking runs in all day.
Don’t mistake what I’m saying. It’s his fault for the shitty pitch…no one is saying otherwise because no one CAN say otherwise. It’s also, however, the umpire’s fault (less so) for taking half of the plate away from him leading up to the mistake.
a manager should look at who is most likely to get people out. A guy just flat out dominated, threw 4 pitches and he gets yanked? Scioscia only knows how to manage by the book. He’s a horrible in game strategic manager. Every pitcher you throw out there, you run the risk of him not being on his game. Arredondo was definitely on his game. There is no way he should have been taken out.
The more pitchers you put in the game, the more likely it is that one of them won’t have their A game on a given night. Arredondo certainly brought his A game and he only threw 4 pitches. Frankie traditionally doesn’t do well in non save situations.
hindsight is 20/20, thats all i’ll say. the same people blaming the manager for putting his closer in the 9th are the same people whod bitch if he kept arredondo in and lost that way.
frankie isnt the first closer to come in during a tied game in the 9th, why does this seem so foreign? because you all have a fantasy of arredondo being a shut down reliever from ONE out??
it’s completely illogical to have a reliever throw 4 pitches unless it’s some situational advantage. Lots of people say well the Angels have to throw the bottom end of their bullpen in certain games because the end of the bullpen is overworked. This is a classic example of Scioscia overworking his bullpen. The strain Arredondo put on his arm in 4 pitches is close to what he would have put on it by throwing 30 pitches. (it has been proven appearances is more important than innings) But now, when we start a series against the Dodgers tomorrow, Arredondo has thrown in 2 straight games and if we need Frankie tomorrow he threw 19 pitches tonight.
You're an idiot -- most Closers operate off of the adrenaline of winning a close game
K-Rod has consistently shown that he does not perform well in non-save situations. As a manager, Scioscia should know this and not start him, unless we’re behind and K-Rod hasn’t pitched in days. IN my view, coach deserves the blame more than pitcher. I have nothing against K-Rod—we just shouldn’t be using him unless it’s a save situation. That’s when he’s good.
But didn’t exactly implode, so he doesn’t deserve the blame for everything else but the ‘L’ in the box score. The White Sox were able to push the winning run and ‘it’ just happens when Pierzynski is involved [maybe we should pick him up].
Funny. I was thinking the same thing. Hate him as much as you want, but DAMN, this guy is right in the middle of all the action. He makes things happen. I shake my head in amazement as to how he riddles the Angels. And I am unfortunately left tipping my cap to him.
bs... the was WAY better than the 1-1 pitch to Willits

K-Rod in for the tie game hold

MH252525 - May 15, 2008
i agree
with the second reason, but not the first.
brown has been crazy good in AAA so far. no reason not to try him out here
howiestheman - May 15, 2008
too bad AAA is not the same

the kid has struck out now 10 times in 13 at-bats.
he shouldn’t be in our starting lineup at this level.
b0rd3rline - May 15, 2008
amen
MH252525 - May 15, 2008
I can think of 4 straight abs
as reasons of not to send him out there, especially with Q getting on base in 5 of his last 11 AB’s.
The chance of Brown getting on base 5 out of 11 times would be like what?
(.02) to the 10th power?
MH252525 - May 15, 2008

Caseys Kiss of Death - May 15, 2008
he's batting .200
you throw 100% curveballs and high fastballs
Carl Johnson - May 15, 2008
Not saying he didn't fuck up
it was his pitch that Vlad was fielding out in right field as the run came around.
But I AM saying he was being squeezed unfairly, which makes it exceptionally harder to locate where you want to.
Caseys Kiss of Death - May 15, 2008
it doesnt make it hard to locate where you want to
it makes it hard to get good pitches called as strikes.
that doesnt mean you throw meaty changeups down the middle.

highlandhalo - May 15, 2008
The only thing on this team worse than Matt Brown is Scioscia
Arredondo threw all of 4 pitches.
Looked as dominating as any pitcher has all year, and bam he’s out of the game.
MH252525 - May 15, 2008
in a tied ballgame at home...
...you almost always go to your closer in the ninth.
don’t know you can blame Scioscia there.
oc - May 15, 2008
that's exactly my point
a manager should look at who is most likely to get people out.
MH252525 - May 15, 2008
The same guy who gave up a homer yesterday to the first batter he faced?
That guy?
Zu Long - May 15, 2008
:O
Take your dirty facts out of this argument!
scottnak - May 15, 2008
Pitchers are good some days and bad others
The more pitchers you put in the game, the more likely it is that one of them won’t have their A game on a given night. Arredondo certainly brought his A game and he only threw 4 pitches. Frankie traditionally doesn’t do well in non save situations.
MH252525 - May 15, 2008
yawn...
oc - May 15, 2008
keep drinking the Soth kool-aide.
MH252525 - May 15, 2008
Frankie's still the best pitcher we have
And Arredondo is the guy with a 6+ ERA
A-Game or not, you go with your best pitcher when you get to the 9th at home. Didn’t work out for us tonight.
Zu Long - May 15, 2008
you really have NO idea about sample size do you?
he’s given up 1 hit in a MEANINGLESS AB, look at the stats he’s put up in AAA.
A whip under 1 and a strikeout to walk ratio of almost 4 to 1 in a hitting environment where Matt Brown can put up a OPS of almost 1.100.
And don’t bring up. something like “Adenhart has good # in AAA too”. Adenhart walk to k ratio is almost 1:1.
MH252525 - May 15, 2008

hindsight is 20/20, thats all i’ll say. the same people blaming the manager for putting his closer in the 9th are the same people whod bitch if he kept arredondo in and lost that way.
frankie isnt the first closer to come in during a tied game in the 9th, why does this seem so foreign? because you all have a fantasy of arredondo being a shut down reliever from ONE out??

no actually not...
I thought Scioscia did a great job getting Mathis out of the game for Napoli, it didn’t work out and I said that Scioscia did the right thing.
I like Scioscia bringing in Arredondo and I questioned it B4 the leadoff double.
and the one out that Arredondo got, while only one out was sick. He was throwing 96 with filthy off speed stuff.

He threw 96 yesterday too.
It didn’t save him then.

regardless
it’s completely illogical to have a reliever throw 4 pitches unless it’s some situational advantage.

I gotta go with Aybar.
4 men left in scoring position.

Horseshit way to lose

K-Rod gave up the winning run
But didn’t exactly implode, so he doesn’t deserve the blame for everything else but the ‘L’ in the box score. The White Sox were able to push the winning run and ‘it’ just happens when Pierzynski is involved [maybe we should pick him up].
BOTG: Maybe the lineup

Funny. I was thinking the same thing. Hate him as much as you want, but DAMN, this guy is right in the middle of all the action. He makes things happen. I shake my head in amazement as to how he riddles the Angels. And I am unfortunately left tipping my cap to him.
