It’s my personal feeling, but a strong one at that, that the anthem is sung to celebrate the country, not the singer. Personal flair not welcome. Especially whatever kind of flair that thing that sung it last night THOUGHT she was adding.
There would have been boos had it not been the anthem that she was singing.
Anyone wonder why the thing that sung the anthem was not brought back out for the seventh inning stretch? Cause I’m not.
She did not stick around for the 7th inning – She is a star, she had to go shine.
Your critique of Miss Khan’s performance IGNORES the ANgels’ anthem legacy: all those fourteen year old hoochies who you know blew some Angels front office “family values” type to wiggle their ass as they butcher the anthem – here is FINALLY a major star confirming top-tier franchise status in a sea of Anthem-stalking Britney Kneepad wannabees.
that led people to get royally pissed at jose feliciano’s version of the anthem (which also hurt his recording career). if you haven’t heard it, it’s one of my favorite versions of the anthem. There was booing when he played it during the World Series—so trust me, if people wanted to boo, they would have booed.
That said, one of the great things about this country is the melting pot/mixed salad aspect, and I think it’s great that we’re able to apply our individuality and our ethnic heritage to the hallmarks of American culture, like the Star-Spangled Banner.
that Marines use: “I disagree with everything you have to say, but I’ll die to defend your right to say it.”
I have no problem with your opinions on last nights anthem. I’ll hear them. But you’ll hear mine too. And it was indeed terribly disrespectful, distasteful, and sounded like the final cries of a dying giraffe in my opinion.
listen you can say that you thought it was terrible....but disrespectful and distatseful.....dude get over your self it isnt about you...her voice is amazing and thats they way she chose to sing...i bet you hated the Jimi Hendrix version also
one of the most interesting versions of the anthem's i've heard

Some guy at Biola
University supposedly beat him out – by like 8 hours….
Supremely lame…
I didn’t verify that – FYI.
jimmuscomp - May 13, 2008

BoulderBrian - May 12, 2008

MY RANT ABOUT YOUR RANT

Individuality
is in the fabric of America. Perhaps you are refering to the national anthem of the U.S.S.R?

Seriously man, this is the same type of attitude
that led people to get royally pissed at jose feliciano’s version of the anthem (which also hurt his recording career). if you haven’t heard it, it’s one of my favorite versions of the anthem. Actually that was Voltaire.
But i’m not saying you shouldn’t say what you think—by all means, keep doing it. I’m merely disagreeing with you.

So what did you think of Roseanne's version?

You'd rather
Have Kenny Fucking G??? (damn, there goes my f-bomb for the month)
red floyd - May 13, 2008
Just be glad Tony Romo didn't sing during the 7th inning stretch. To me, that's 50 times more disrespectful to the game and our country.
Mayheminthehood - May 13, 2008
thank God he had the sense to let the crowd sing half of it
he should NOT quit his day job
ladybug - May 13, 2008
Who's next for the anthem?
How ‘bout that He/She in the Boy George garb from “The Wedding Singer?”
PieceOfAase - May 13, 2008
This was a funny thread...
Too bad I missed the national anthem tonight…was busy watching my son’s little league game.

Any time I see the name "Chaka"
I think of that monkey-like character from the 70’s TV show “Land of the Lost.”
