What was most terrible about Thursday's loss is that we had actually come back from a steep early deficit and, at one point, taken the lead. Allowing them to climb back up and then over, there is a sapping energy to that. But Mike Scioscia insists that the players take every game as one game. Mike never gets too up nor down even if he did totally chew-out Bootcheck on the mound tonight.
Nick Adenhart will start in Kansas City on Tuesday. The long-term is fine. The short-term, however, is a lot of tired arms that love finding the center of the plate when they are not nibbling at the nothingness beyond the corners.
No team in baseball could conceivably expect its 3 lowest totem pole relievers to eat up 8 innings unscathed - throw in anticipating perfection from the 5th starter as a delusion a reasonable team would avoid (and as L.A. Seitz reminds us all , we are really talking about the Angels' 7th starter). But fans expect it. Counting our currently vague 5th starter spot, we are talking about inadequacies in the 4 least important pitching positions in baseball.
After a month of excellence, we finally had to suffer the ramifications of being without our two 18-Game-Winners on Thursday. The cringing of Robb Quinlan challenging himself to have range beyond a couch potato reaching for the remote is not a pitching problem, but if that was the glaring problem - in addition to a flailing Guerrero and a suspiciously DHing-Again Hunter - these things are minimal concerns among a team of high-achievers.
So we as fans can turn the page, too. So let's!

was at the game
some of the worst pitching ive seen start fo finish in my lifetime
for the record, adenhart’s warm up pitches before the game started were all VERY wild, something i noticed as i was sitting down and convinced myself was nothing.
he looked nervous as hell. wonder how nick green would have done..

Haha!
I started yelling “GET GREEN ON THE PLANE NOW” once adenhart starting throwing all over the place (except over the plate).

For everyone about to jump
Ervin Santana – Major League Debut: 4 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 3 BB, 2 HR, and he gave up the cycle to the first four batters he faced.
Ervin Santana – Next Major League Start: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1BB, 7 K. That was against the eventual World Champion White Sox.
Something tells me that when a kid who is a top prospect is called up and stuggles in his debut, it’s not the end of the world. It’s May fer chrissakes. Can we please pull back from the ledge?

your calm, cool demeanor was a split second too late…

i was there too in RF section
i never bash players but Quinlan is really starting to ruin my universe. he’s the 2008 Shea Hillenbloop. pitchers just could not find the strikezone….i don’t think i’ve ever seen that many walks ever. pissed we didn’t win the series but glad we didn’t lose it.
birghtside of the night? college night! i think a guy and this chick got busted in the restroom for “misbehaving”....anyone confirm that?
SCHalo - May 2, 2008
just because one couple got caught does not mean a few other successfully misbehaved start to finish… we’ll see in 9 months!

Thank You Robb!
Usually when you get robbed it’s not a good thing for the batter…..this Robb job is different. It was pretty amusing to watch Quinlan just fall over on that shoulda-been-DP ball that woulda bailed out Adenhart.
Thanks Q!

I was literally on top of the three or four big plays at third last night (F107)...
and I felt that Quinlan should have had two fairly tough plays that he completely missed on. Granted, it would have taken spectacular glove-work to get to the balls, but nowhere did I see an “easy” DP to be had, especially when Nicky was on the hill.
Still, if Q makes a good stab with the glove, we are talking about much less damage and getting to the next inning with less damage might equal a settled rookie on the mound. Quinlan really f’d this one up for Nick A.

I don't suggest....
that is was an “EASY” play, but you don’t get to The Show if all you can make are the easy plays. Go to mlb.com and check out the highlight of Suzuki’s ball that went off Q’s glove. That was the hit that made it 4 – 0.
The ball goes off the TOP of Q’s glove when held horizontally – he was TOO CLOSE to the ball, he “overran” it; cuz he just tipped over and missed it. OK, he stumbled, but it was a ball he SHOULD have gloved, and one he COULD have turned – if he hadn’t been his timber imitation.

I'll take a look, thanks.
I agree for sure, though, that Q looked like a fool over on the hot corner last night.

Didn't watch the game.
I had a beer league softball game, then Iron Man. I was bummed that I was missing Adenhart’s start. I’m not so bummed anymore. Sounds like it was brutal.

The games on FSN are almost always replayed late into the evening
if you can stay up to watch. I like to watch them because you always see stuff you missed watching it the first time or blogging on HH.

I hate that they cut out stuff
on those rebroadcasts
Rev Halofan - May 2, 2008
Maybe they will cut out Juan's at bat tonight?
