I have no confidence in the bottom half of the bullpen. I really think this year the Angels need to eventually trade for a quality established reliever once some teams drop out of contention.
Either that or they need one of Thompson, Arredondo, Bulger, ODay to step up and be a consistent reliever. My money would be on Thompson but unfortunately he’s in SL.
Also don’t Q, Brown and Wood fill the exact same roster needs? Can we send one down/dfa one to make room for another reliever.
Now I can understand people saying at some point you have to let a pitcher take one for the team but Scioscia can’t even do that right.
He didn’t have Moseley take one for the team yet he let him pitch too long. He didn’t have ODay take one for the team yet he pitched too long.
My point being is the bullpen is still going to be taxed after the game tonight, but he let pitchers pitch when it was obvious they weren’t going to get anyone out.
It’s just it’s not really like he’s playing for tonight or for tomorrow, he’s stuck in the middle doing who knows what, at least now it’s so out of hand I know Boot will be sucking it up and taking one for the team
i’m watching the A’s telecast on teevee right now. they’re taking a $ off plaza level seats for each hit the A’s record tonight. 17 hits = $7 seats on sunday (seats are usually $24).
i guess they’ll do anything to get people to show up.
I know I’m sometimes quicker in my Infiniti G37 than my friend in his Porsche 911, just like the A’s are sometimes (a lot) better than the Angels. In the end though… His car is a lot better than mine. And so are the Angels.
They have a lot of young pitchers that have yet to go through the league once.
The lefties they threw up against us, are more or less soft tossing lefties that I think are going to be even more prone to the once around the league stat line.
He has been awesome…. Once. And pretty much a complete suck four other times.
I really don’t think the trade was worth it – he hasn’t really put up better numbers than Mosely as far as I know – at least not this year. And as far as being “an innings eater” – I’ve yet to see that is the case. I’m not convinced. He really should be our 5th starter.
The trade opened up a spot for Eybar & OCab is not doing that well in Chitown
Frankly, he had to have benefited from batting in front of Vlad…ie, career year. HGH has not figured that out yet! That and Vlad sucks thus far so why not pitch to Vlad.
Oh well. It’s the A’s. Let them enjoy it while they can. I honestly can’t feel bad about this – it’s not like it’s close (and yes, I know it was at one time).
If it were up to me, this is the first time we do a co-blame-of-the-game.
wow.
this isn’t pretty.

The fact that nobody can locate worth a damn is distressing.

what the hell
UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
MATTHEWS FAST

Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
Wow, that was brutal.
Any other survivors?
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
Angels better have the ability to score 9 and more
mjhsieh - May 1, 2008
It ain't over till its over! Go Angels!
44FAN - May 1, 2008
Take pitches, Vlad. It works for the A's.
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
good call!
b0rd3rline - May 1, 2008
Can we score 8 runs
before we make 14 outs? HA – doesn’t sound too tough now, does it?
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
bigger problem is keeping runs off the board
UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
yea

I released the hold on the TV and let my roommate play some Mario Kart…
Looks like its a good decision…

TWO STRIKE ZONES HERE
one for Duchscherer, one for everybody else. And Duch-Poochy has a higher, wider one by far.
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
Glad someone else noticed.
His outside corner against lefties especially is a mile wide.
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
kotch doesn't look right today

Gotta go opfield with that, Casey.

O’Day has been sucking lately. A LOT.
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
There are definitely
strikes being called balls here…
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
indeed the ump is having some eyes problem
mjhsieh - May 1, 2008
The bullpen
Now I can understand people saying at some point you have to let a pitcher take one for the team but Scioscia can’t even do that right.

MH252525 - May 1, 2008
Expect a roster shuffle shortly
They might not even wait until after the game.
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008
It's not like Mike can do much about guys not being able to get an out to save their lives.
Putting in Oliver/Speier/Shields/Franky at that point is counter productive. Again, better we find out they can’t hack it now.
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
yea I can understand that
It’s just it’s not really like he’s playing for tonight or for tomorrow, he’s stuck in the middle doing who knows what, at least now it’s so out of hand I know Boot will be sucking it up and taking one for the team

This is a horrible lineup that is scoring these runs.

only one run allowed.happy days!!!
wings - May 1, 2008
This is just sad. Maybe we should change up catchers.
I don’t know, maybe Napoli is doing something they’ve keyed on.
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
it is horrible.
the A’s are not the 1927 yankees
wings - May 1, 2008
Well guys, feel like scoring 9 runs in one shot?
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
At least
the A’s fans will have some warm and fuzzy memories of this game when they are treading around .500 in July.
Doctor Wu - May 1, 2008
All We Have to do is
score 9 runs before we make 12 outs … doesn’t seem so difficult now does it?
Rev Halofan - May 1, 2008

Apparently they’ve got the best offense in the AL. _
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
Oh damn
So… 25 hits means -$1 seats?!
scottnak - May 1, 2008
I just don't see Q having nice hits this year.
I might be wrong, it seems to be true.

can somebody please
go Tonya Harding on Q????
we seem to suck terribly every time this douchebag plays.

yea the A's still do not scare me at all
They have a lot of young pitchers that have yet to go through the league once.

UCIHalo - May 1, 2008

b0rd3rline - May 1, 2008
Maybe we're trying to bankrupt the A's.
:P
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
I was watching on my phone/gameday
Is the Ump’s strikezone that horrible, or are we just messing up tremendously ?

both
howiestheman - May 1, 2008
Figures.

UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
Hey, what's that number on the scoreboard?
So unfamiliar…
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
i thought
HK47 was on an assignment tonight? but he wasn’t in the Quakes lineup, and wasn’t with the Bees. does this mean he’s not coming back tomorrow?
b0rd3rline - May 1, 2008
Quakes were playing a doubleheader, I think, sure you
looked at the right lineup?
TheOptimist - May 1, 2008
he wasn't
in that one either. wtf?
b0rd3rline - May 1, 2008
Well, nuts.
I have no clue then. Maybe they decided he didn’t need a rehab game?

haha, true to your name
mr. optimist. i like your style.
lets hope for the best.

until he turns in to a good pitcher.
44FAN - May 1, 2008
best decision he has made all night
UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
nah that was putting Wood in for Q
Even if Wood can’t take a step he has about 6 inches more range that Q.
MH252525 - May 1, 2008
hate to break this to you but Q ius stil in
wood went in for Vlad
UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
Can someone remind me?
The Angels released Joel Peralta so that ___ could stay on the active roster?
I know it was some crappy player.
Bet you anything the Angels would love to have Joel back. I know I would after seeing a parade of ineffective relievers.
MH252525 - May 1, 2008
Mike Napoli
7 freakin’ dingers on the year already.
Are you reading that Vlad ?
infant - May 1, 2008
he is our own little richie sexon
at least he can plays good D
UCIHalo - May 1, 2008
Not so sure about that
The two good catches he has made so far this season are more of a fluke than I’d like it to be :-)
I remember some VERY bad D from Vlad as well…
infant - May 1, 2008
Vlad
really needs to step up his game, as do GA and GMJ
MH252525 - May 1, 2008
Was he slumping this bad last year, too ?
I mean, I know he wasn’t hitting HR’s for a long time – but he was still productive. He’s been absolutely terrible for quite some time now.
infant - May 1, 2008
Imagine what our record would be if GA and Vlad were off to decent starts...?!
Then imagine what our record would be if said twosome were off to torrid starts…?!
Then reality sets in…and we are tied for first place even after this fiascoooohhh!
I can live with this! Buenos noches amigos…let it goooooo!
K3YEROUT - May 1, 2008
I love this post!
Great optimism in spite of our negative situation.

TheOptimist - May 1, 2008

infant - May 1, 2008
And I forgot to mention
our catching duo
infant - May 1, 2008
and the torrid start of Figgins
who has since forgotten which end of the bat to hold…. :)
K3YEROUT - May 1, 2008

mjhsieh - May 1, 2008

He needs to make up for Yesterday. Let’s score 10 runs.

Which fund is the money going to ?

sigh....
i wish he would just freakin relax and start hitting
howiestheman - May 1, 2008
He's gotta stop swinging at the balls outta the zone

Bad combination for Wood thus far!
Heavy sigh!

Kotch singles
