King Ade-Rock MLB Debut Pregame Thread

7:05 PM - Justin Duchscherer (R) @ Nick Adenart (R) - TV: FSN

Will he be famous for more than Fifteen Innings?

Pregame Guesses

  1. Plus or Minus 5: # of Pitches Nick Adenhart throws in Thursday Night's game
  2. # of strikeouts recorded by Adenhart in tonight's game
  3. Name the Athletic who will be the first major league strikeout victim of Nick Adenhart

It is College Night at the Big A and a kid who turned down college to sign with the Angels will be on the mound.

To underscore Adenhart's age, allow me to remind longtime Angel fans of the celebrated 1986 13-12 victory over Detroit at the Big A where we scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 9th capped off by a Dick Schofield walk-off Grand Slam. So yeah, Nick Adenhart was 5 DAYS old on the day of that game.

Why are we setting him up to fail? Why start on 3 days rest? I don’t get it…98 pitches on the 27th, 57 for strikes.

Go Adenhart! Kick some ass!

Scioscia quoted from the OC Register

“Let’s see how his stuff is….. We have a twelve man pitching staff, we won’t have to ask him to throw 118 pitches or anything like that.”

King Nick of Adenhart….....All hail the king, All hail the king. His first action by the King will be sending the A’s back to Fremont with their mouths wide open.

When suzuki catches Street do you think he ever wonders to himself “Why were you such a little bitch in the college world Series when we beat your ass and refused to shake hands as is the custom?”

By the way, just my opinion, but King Ade-Rock is a shit name. Can someone not do a little better?

This kid’s going to be awesome, let’s not saddle him with a nickname that makes him sound like a cock.

it is a beastie boys reference

not a monarchy thing

Since it is properly (I believe) pronounced Ade as in AID...

he should be called “Cool Ade”

how about Corey

or maybe just “Sunglasses”...

Tsk, tsk

You’re forgetting that there is already a pro ballplayer named Corey Hart…

touché

my bad

No one can take away your right,

to fight and… never surrender.

I think I saw Lion-hart on here once before....

if you don’t mind the reference to a Van Damme [sic] movie…...afterall, he is one of the greatest actors of our time (a slight hint of sarcasm here)

i was at that '86 game

that game is the reason i never leave early, no matter what the score.

...old man take a look at your life…

im alot like you were

luckily i'm not old enough to remember that album's release

it should be a 5-star in the Rev’s iTunes library, though…

hey hey my my

talking shit will never die

I've seen the needle and the damage done A little part of it in everyone

neil is f’ing punk rock

Mr Hunter just reinforced that fact this year...

and I scolded my fellow F107 season ticket holder for leaving early that night.

Although on the flip side, leaving early on Monday night was entirely possible, yet I still stuck it out.

3 days rest? Bad move by the Angels.

Why take any chances with a young arm? This is not a logical decision. Is it really that necessary to rush Adenhart to the majors?

Quoted from The Los Angeles Times, April 17th 2008:

The Angels promoted a pitcher (Alex Serrano) from the minor leagues Wednesday, but not Nick Adenhart. For now - and perhaps for the rest of the season - the Angels plan to keep their top pitching prospect at triple-A Salt Lake.

“He’ll come here when he’s ready,” General Manager Tony Reagins said. “Right now, we don’t feel he’s ready. That’s the bottom line.”

The Angels like Moseley best as a long reliever and spot starter, and Adenhart has a 1.59 ERA in three starts at Salt Lake. But he has walked nine and struck out nine in 17 innings, and Reagins said he has not displayed the consistency that would warrant a promotion.

“Hopefully, when he gets here - at some point he will, and I’m not saying this season - he’s here to stay,” Reagins said.
—-—-—-—-——
I’m not trying to call out Reagins, but his line of reasoning back in mid-April was bang on.

Moseley wasn’t getting it done. This isn’t just a spot start for Adenhart, he’s going to be up until Lackey’s ready, which from what I understand, will be at least 3 starts. Maybe longer if Lackey has a setback (which we all hope he won’t). So Adenhart’s pitching on short rest for one start, big deal. He’ll have two more starts after that on regular rest. The kid’ll be fine and he gives us a much better #5 than Moseley.
