but scoring 5 runs or so (off someone like Gaudin, for that matter) over those same 6 innings would have been a reasonable offensive contribution that would keep us competitive. Garland didn’t make it impossible to win…he made it hard to win. Bootcheck made it inconceivable.
you have to magnify the bad start by the fact that the A’s have a pathetic offense. Giving up 7 runs to them is like 12 to a good offensive club. And even his outs were hard hit. How many liners did the Angels IF catch? I think that I can remember every infielder catching at least one line drive.
The A’s still have a pathetic offense. Suzuki leading off, Barton hit his first homer of the year hitting 3rd. Frank Thomas hitting less than .200 batting cleanup, a slew of other guys not doing much offensively. The A’s are being carried by their pitching.
Pretty funny a guy being completely wrong telling me to keep up. Stupid A’s fan, it must be the water up there.
They have also played as many games as anyone too which causes their raw runs stat to be slightly inflated but of course you knew that.
Just like I’m sure you also knew that the A’s are 10th in OPS in the AL with a pathetic .718 and that the Angels are 3rd at .778. The A’s are scoring more runs than they should with their stats. It won’t last and A’s fans know that. Just like Mike Napoli and Jeff Mathis won’t combine to hit 50 homers.
well actually kotch and quinlan made snatched 2 good line outs early… but yeah after there there were a lot of screamers… kotch got dirty tonight cant say he didnt try
He had an absolutely horrible start… again and I’m cutting Boot some slack seeing as how he just came back from an injury and then came down with the flu.
Talking about Scioscia being overrated in the game thread yesterday and I saw a perfect example tonight. Angels down like 5-2. Napoli had hit a homerun. Figgins hit a clean single and GMJ walked on 4 pitches. Vlad flys weakly which brings up Kotch. He works a 3-1 count and all of a sudden the runners are going. Why or why are the runners going on a 3-1 pitch with 2 outs? Gaudin obviously didn’t have good command shown by him walking GMJ on 4 pitches and getting to a 3-1 count on Kotch with a 3 run lead. But apparently Scioscia knows that Gaudin is going to throw a fat pitch right there even though he has demonstrated the entire inning he doesn’t have his A game. Of course Kotch doesn’t get the best of pitch to hit but with it being a strike he is forced into swinging.
Dear Scioscia, Kotchman is worthy of batting cleanup, do not, I repeat do not take the bat of his hands. I’m all for aggressive play but that was just stupid play…..
I’m willing to give Bootcheck a pass since he’s had the flu the past few days. I was at the game tonight, and it looked like the whole team was a little jet lagged. I’m predicting mid-May is when the clock will strike midnight on this A’s lineup. I really don’t envision a lineup with the likes of Daric Barton, Emil Brown, and Jack Hannahan tearing through the league and into the playoffs….. Do You?
the A’s are getting a big dose of around the league one time success. Almost all pitchers seem to do better the first time through the league than their second or third.
ESPN reamed us over… Yesterday was supposed to be a 12:35 game and they changed it to 8:05 for their national broadcast. Terry said he didn’t get home til 3:30AM this morning.
i was there… every ball was very well struck with the exception of the Thomas TRIPLE in the 1st… i dunno bout the rest of the stadium but my whole section pretty much let out a collective “WTF” after that one
I just assumed the ball was foul the way he went after it. I mean why do you risk letting a ball get past you when if you make sure it stays in front of you then there is no chance that Barton scores. Very bad play Vlad.

Somewhere there must be
a definitive guide to beating the A’s.

PANTHER!
C’mon Carl Johnson…where’s the guide?
Downing Rules - April 28, 2008
i say bootcheck
he did what garland did in 5.1 less innings. the only good thing about bootcheck’s line tonight is that the coaching staff realizes he sucks ass now.
and here’s hoping that moseley pitching 2 innings tonight means Adenhart is on his way up.

Bootsy
He wouldn’t have had the chance to do what he did, if Garland didn’t put us in such a shitty state.
Red114 - April 28, 2008
Bootcheck
Garland had one of those bad starts where a decent offensive performance would have kept us in the game. Bad start, but managable.
Bootcheck came into that game and did to it what abortions do to fetuses.
Caseys Kiss of Death - April 28, 2008
7ER in 6?
Garland threw gasoline all over this MFer before Bootcheck struck the match.
hauldog - April 28, 2008
Yeah, like I said...a shitty start
but scoring 5 runs or so (off someone like Gaudin, for that matter) over those same 6 innings would have been a reasonable offensive contribution that would keep us competitive. Garland didn’t make it impossible to win…he made it hard to win. Bootcheck made it inconceivable.

5 of 6 starts for Gaudin have been QS. I would not hold my breath.
hauldog - April 29, 2008
True
he hasn’t entered mid-season meltdown form yet.
Caseys Kiss of Death - April 29, 2008
I will agree with that. I am not a Gaudin fan at all.
hauldog - April 29, 2008
but...

And any other team in the AL

I did
i just wanted to brag about it while i could : )
And i doubt the A’s will slug 374 the rest of the season, especially after adding Thomas.

I voted for Garland
He had an absolutely horrible start… again and I’m cutting Boot some slack seeing as how he just came back from an injury and then came down with the flu.

Garland
The game was already out of hand before Bootcheck crapped the bed.
Bad News= This is the worst loss of the young season so far.
Good News= It’s April and we have 18 more chances to beat them down

Good call...
they arrived at ONTARIO at 2AM this morning…jet lag was a factor.
I had also read that Booty had gotten the flu. WTF was he doing pitching tonight?
Downing Rules - April 28, 2008
Jet Lag
Even Terry Smith commented on that on Angel Talk.
ESPN reamed us over… Yesterday was supposed to be a 12:35 game and they changed it to 8:05 for their national broadcast. Terry said he didn’t get home til 3:30AM this morning.

earlier flights
I wonder if they sent Garland on an earlier flight so that he could get a better nights sleep.
If I was the Angels I would have just sent Garland and Saunders on a flight after the Saturday day game.

‘Cause he sure left a 7-spot steaming turd on that mound tonight.
