Baseball Reference Sponsorships

Just a quick plug for my favorite site out there... For a few bucks, Sean Forman's BASEBALL REFERENCE lets you and/or your company sponsor your favorite team page or player for a whole year. The stats are complete and for current players and teams they are updated daily. Over the years, HALOS HEAVEN has sponsored players and teams from the past, but this year we have the 2008 Angels team as well as ensuring that visitors to THIS PAGE will see our name every time they look up current stats.

Darren O'Day is $10 Right Now

Go buy him… er, IT.

Kotchman is $25

Must be because he is hitting so well.

bitchin

the ‘86 page has a great quote/lyric, and the seattle page is a nice touch.

Greatest baseball site in the world

And that’s no slight to the good Rev.

i agre

I’d put up a poll and vote against myself!

Nice

That is a good move Rev.

Bow down

To the brilliance of THE REV. claps

Awesome.

Well played.

Robb Quinlan needs sponsoring
Nice work on grabbing the Mariners
Thats seriously hilarious.
Hey Rev

I saw that the 2008 A’s are available for $105.00. How does that compare to what you had to pay for the Mariners and the Angels

long story

I paid a hundred bucks for the 2002 Angels page in January – first time it had been out of the clutches of David Peng since it was first available. Turns out there was a tech foul-up and David and I had both paid for it and Sean asked nicely if he gave me $100 credit would I let go of the 2002 page.

SURE I said and then yesterday I realized I still had $200 in the account – Angels and Mariners were each $100, so it was basically free for the PWNAGE … A’s will be $100 tomorrow and $95 the day after that, etc. it loses $5 a day from April 1 or the team’s first April game.

HA!

so this is awesome

nice....

stickin it too em in the subtle ways

M's fan here...

...and I’ll admit, that was a nice move. :)

However… what about the off chance that the majority of HH writers/readers are mistaken, and the Mariners are not completely talentless? What if they win the division? What if – somehow – they do it convincingly?

Oh, you can say it won’t happen, yada yada whatever… that’s your job as Angels’ fans, and I won’t begrudge it of you. But, setting fandom aside for just a moment… what if? Doesn’t the sponsorship at that point backfire just a little bit?

I bet you that certain LL people will be trolling all over here at that point. (I’m not really LL… more D-O-V and Mariner Central). I would have to be very, very hard at work restraining myself, I’ll admit… I love the way you guys fervently support your team, but the complete lack at HH of any form of respect (even grudging) for the M’s would make the irony very, very sweet.

That being said, I’m sure you’re confident that won’t happen… so no real danger, hmm? _ And of course, you may well be right. It would be stupid to underestimate the Angels, no matter how much improvement I see in the Mariners…

Apologies if this comes across as trolling; that is not my intent. At worst, I’m shooting for a subtle jibe. I’ve lurked around HH for a while, and enjoyed much of what I’ve read (grudging respect issue aside).

obviously anything can happen

that’s why they play the games.

the mariners are desperate to beat the angels, even in spring training. and M’s fans are reaching far and wide to bring their team respect. but it’s gonna take more than a spring training game and one series at the beginning of april to get that respect. they gotta earn it.

the sponsorship is just funny. win or lose, that’s pretty classic.

If they do happen to win, her is waht happens

You have to look at my kick-in-the-shins every time you go admire those winners.

At that point...

...is it really a kick-in-the-shins?

Or is it – at that point and that point only, of course – silent justification after what I perceive as a complete lack of even grudging respect for the M’s? If I went to that page after such a season, I wouldn’t feel slighted by the move so much as thinking it was ironically hilarious… a reminder of vindication more than anything else.

But until that actually happens – and I am simply not willing to underestimate the Angels – it’s a very good move and I for one appreciate it. We’re talking about admittedly the lesser of two possibilities when we discuss a convincing Mariners’ lead over the Angels, of course.

If you ever do win, we may respect the M's...

Until then… “116 and out” is your legacy.

There are worse legacies...

...for a relatively young club. _ But you’re right… the clock is ticking, and Seattle’s ownership had better be paying attention.

Who owns the M's?
Nintendo.

Unless something’s changed.

Really? I always thought that was Rev ...

poking fun at a Seattle stereotype of Japanese businesses owning a lot of things up there.

Nope.

Used to be the plurality individual owner was Yamauchi-san (chairperson or something), but he sold his shares to the company (which already had a bunch) a while back.

Guess what? Nintendo gave some shares to Ichiro… he’s a part owner.

That's not possible.
What if.....

Is why every Mariner fan looks forward to every spring. What is, is why every Halo’s fan looks forward to every October.

i am old enough to easily recall when it was just not that way for the lads.

KCorran: you are too young to grasp the Curse of the Angels

You might have read about 1986, but you had to live that season to really understand it. Long-time Angels’ fans know to NEVER take anything for granted. Besides, why is there this obsession/hating from other fans over the Angels? The lore of Angels past is lost on the youth of today.

This is true...

...I would have been 3 or 4 that year. I wouldn’t mind hearing more about it; the history of current AL West teams intrigues me. I assume you’re talking about the ALCS loss?

I haven’t seen a lot of obsession/hating on the Angels where I spend my time. Oh, we want to beat you pretty bad, don’t get me wrong… but I’ve got nothing against the Angels’ players. I’ve been disappointed when I look for any of the old-style ‘respect-for-the-worthy-opponent’ concept, perhaps, but that’s not too bad. Unlike Oakland… I went to one freaking game there, and ever since I HATE Oakland’s fans, and by extension to some extent I loathe their team. Talk about your bad experiences… yikes.

History: I remember a classic game...

in the early 80’s, I believe, where Gaylord Perry was throwing spitballs against the Angels…

I believe it was up in Seattle (Kingdome).

The details are a bit fuzzy, but maybe Yetijuice can chime in here…

Mine

I tried getting Matt Wise a few months ago but it was taken. So I took the CSUF baseball team instead.

Those happy folk at LL...

...are delighted too

At least, for the most part, they can see the funny side. I guess that’s part of being a Mariners fan.

Nelson

HA HA

Not liking HH over there

If the Angels were a worse team, I don’t think anyone would care.

But they’re baseball team is better than ours, while their blog is the SF Giants of sports blogs, so it bothers us more.

...and now I’m here

Although

Those classy PRICKS enjoy their Donnie Moore jokes.

stay classy seattle...

...they talk about HH more than their team …our little group has always been and always will until the end…

It is pretty comical
that is some funny funny stuff

i love how they’re so pissed at each other for talking about HH/Rev so much. they do have a point, though, as somebody dropped a “Panther!” in what appears to be a totally unironic way. awesome!
