Well...
I have been tormented at night wondering where he was going to go…now that he is gone it’s not that bad. Just another reason to hate the red sux. Hopefully we can sign manny/dunn and trade for jake peavy.
did you see this? I just heard that he was meeting tonight but nothing is conclusive. But if its true…it does not come as a surprise and i am not as bummed as some people might be. Life goes on and the season will still come whether we have him or not.
Definitely sucks to have him go (to Boston of all places) but whatever. We lost a bidding war to a team we really cant outbid. getting in the habit of thinking we can win these pissing matches with boston and new york and chicago will only make these more stressful.
Im happy that we’re even in the running for these guys because it wasnt that long ago that we couldnt even dream of dishing out 180 million dollar contracts. This move diminishes the immediate future but bodes well for the long term future of this franchise we love. we currently have 3 first round picks and 2 sandwich picks
Hopefully they will be position players that can actually hit for power and take a walk since the Angels seemed to have had trouble developing those lately.
Randy Johnson and Juan Cruz would be solid additions to the pitching staff. There is a glut of corner outfielders/DH-types on the free agent market. Angels might be able to sign two of them.
Seriously, I really want(ed) Teixeira. There is not another FA player this year that so completely fits the needs of the Halos. The money – $23+ Million per year – is a lot, but the Halos don’t have an entrenched first baseman, so the marginal wins vs. dollars would be about as good as it gets for any MLB team.
Oh well. Time to pocket some draft picks and try not to sign a stupid FA just to look busy…
Adam Dunn, Man-Ram and Burrell in that order and no more than a 3-year deal for any of them…
Save some cash, sign some draft picks, go crazy in the international market and build from the bottom up.
I’ll be curious to see how Kotchman does this year vs. Kendry Morales. That will be a great side pot to this season. What do you think, Acuda?
Everyone knew that his wife is from Atlanta and she likes the East Coast better. Even if the Angels offered the same years/$$ as Boston, you kinda just knew that he’d go back East.
It just sucks, cause I liked him being an Angel and now I have to Boo him.
am happy we are spending the 180 million on one guy. Yea hes good, but 160 was probably the max. I am not mad disappointed or anything. I am not gonna hate the guy for wanting more money. I am just gonna hate the bosux overall probably even more. We knew all along Boston had to do something to keep with the Yanks and the only thing that would make noise was to get Texeira. So good riddance and I hope that 180 Mill. goes to waste and he his knee does not hold up. Now, lets just look forward to our season and hopefully we can make it a good one. And fire Mickey Hatcher hes a piece of beanbag S—-. Let’s go Morales woo hoo.
Some dumb things have been said this winter on sites. You’ll notice the article mentions that the reporter didn’t site any sources. It could be that mlb.com just jumped the gun.
is what it looks like it is going to be. Can’t blame the owner for not signing Tex to that kind of long term deal. The Red Sox were always going to pay enough to get Tex, that has been their plan all off season. Now gotta get Manny and another bat and go win the thing.
He did put on the big boy pants. If the f—ing sux weren’t so obsessed with being the New Skankees and stealing away parts they frankly don’t need, Teix would have signed with us two weeks ago.
1. We’ll finally get to see what Kendry can do – I’m optimistic we’ll see .280ish, 20-25HR
2. We can spend money on a LF/reliever/starter
3. We can reinvestigate that Peavy trade
4. The rest of the off-season trade market should get quite exiting from here on in – prepare to be linked with anyone and everyone
5. We can extend Lackey and Vlad (which they deserve)
may or may not deserve an extension. Let’s see what 2009 looks like before throwing $20 million per year at him for his decline phase – which he may already be knee-deep into.
I agree -- and really hope to see a Vlad resurgence in '09
Here’s to hoping that 2009 is a season-long late July to August ‘08 for Vladdy. Though even then, it’s hard to say that he’s worth $20 mil now if he wasn’t when he signed in ’04.
That has to be one of the best contracts ever in baseball considering he was at the time up there with Pujols, Ramirez, and A Rod. He is no longer at that level, but if he can even maintain his 2008 numbers and spread them out over a full season he is definitely worth a contract extension especially considering that he has been the face of the franchise since he signed back in 2004. I just hope Vlad ends up in the Hall as an Angel and not an Expo which is part of the reason why I want to see him finish his career as an Angel.
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Arte is a man of his word. Arte will always have the Angels contending for a WS title. He’s not stupid and he’s not about to jepordize anything in his Long Term plans for his organization.
Follow the logic here: Rumors of the wifey wanting to live on the East Coast. Boston Tea Party.
She wears the pants in the relationship. Why not shower the guy in “Tea Bags”.
It doesn’t bother me at all. Sure it would have been nice to have Tex, but not for 184 million. What really surprises me though is that the Yankees didn’t go hard after Tex considering they have the money and their everyday lineup is aging and not exactly imposing anymore. They could have always moved Swisher to the outfield.
But, they saw their main need – rightly or wrongly – as pitching. They decided to go youth movement in the rotation last year and Kennedy, Hughes and Joba were all hurt and/or ineffective. They didn’t want to leave anything to chance this year….
I still think they are the third best team in the division – so it will be interesting to see if they can get back to the playoffs in 2009.
I still see Tampa Bay and the Red Sox as better than the Yanks
That Yankee lineup has actually gotten worse considering they have yet to replace the home runs of Giambi and the runs, walks, and RBI’s of Abreu. By not signing Tex and having yet to replace the production of Giambi and Abreu, they are almost forced to add Ramirez and center their offense around the 1-2 punch of A-Rod and Manny to counter the power and patience the Red Sox will have throughout their lineup. With Tex, Youk, and the underrated Jason Bay in the middle of the order you have 3 guys that could potentially hit 30 home runs and drive in 100+ runs.
Currently the Yankees have only one player that I can envision hitting at least 30 homers and driving in 100+ runs and that is A-Rod. I see Posada as matching the production of Varitek version 2008, Nady regressing from his 2008 season, Jeter posting similar numbers as last year, Cano improving offensively but not to the point of being a .300 hitter, Swisher hitting around .250 with 20-25 home runs, Damon hitting around 285-290 with around 15 homers if he even plays everyday, Matsui hitting in the 280s with a homer total in the low 20s if he plays everyday, and of course Melky being a virtual black hole offensively. That lineup is nowhere close to matching Boston’s. They may have the edge in the pitching, but that is only if Burnett stays healthy, Wang is healthy and pitches like he did prior to last year, and Joba stays healthy.
As someone else mentioned, this kind of feels like the school bully (who has just taken over from the old, not quite as much of a jacka$$ school bully), has run up and pounded us into the ground on multiple occasions….and then, when we’re just coming up for air, sucker-punched us right in the gut and taken our favorite toy.
But I can’t. It sucks. However I think that long term contract would have hurt us down the road. I’ll miss Teixera. But I can never cheer for the redsox.
So basically we just gave away a young, cheap, good-and-still-improving for nothing. Dumbest thing since not re-signing Ryan. I don’t feel much like loooking forward to baseball this year. EVEN IF we won the WS, this was stupid.
or resign U-Haul the trade would be a bust. I understand the argument for going all in last year and it was fun while it lasted but in the end results are what matter most.
Still, I think the FO reasonably believed it had a good shot at resigning Teix. If he had any agent other than Bora$$, he more than likely would have re-signed with us, no problem.
this is exactly how I felt at the time of the trade of Kotchman for Teix. But, it is important to differentiate between Kotchman v. 2007 and Kotchman v. 2008. Kendry Morales – in his most mediocre season – could probably reproduce Kotchman v. 2008. Kotchman, for whatever reason, forgot how to walk in Anaheim (I am looking at you, Mickey Hatcher) and his SLG dropped too.
Morales can hit .330/.410 in his sleep, methinks. That is the line Casey put up in 2008.
Now, if Kotchman returns to 2007 form and starts hitting .380/.470 again, then that is a different story. But right now, with Morales at 1B, the Halos are only down the value of Casey’s defense – which isn’t insignificant.
Teix was a worth while gamble – it just didn’t pan out in October.
Kotch may prove me wrong, but I see him as an in his prime Doug Mientkiewicz type of player which I don’t see as a big loss. I see Morales as having more offensive upside than Kotch though his glove at first will end up being average at best.
The only negative I see with trading Kotch for Tex is that he could have been potentially valuable trade bait this off season for a team looking to unload their expensive players for someone young, cheap, serviceable, and most importantly under team control for awhile. Basically we traded Kotch for draft picks which we so desperately need in order to try and finally produce some impact bats that will hopefully stay healthy.
They get the 2 high picks to try and help rebuild the farm system, which is devoid of high end talent right now. It was a good deal. You play to win the world series and the Angels did that.
two first round picks is the worst case scenario. while Krotch was an amazing defender with alot of upside with the bat (and a personal favorite) the trade had to be done. The big bat theory had to be tested and for only kotchman and marek, we practically stole Tex
hey guys, I am a die hard mets fan and I am just curious about k-rod’s velocity. Is all of this talk about k-rod giving you heartburn and the dropp of velocity true? I thaught it would be better to ask people who watched him on a daily basis and know all about him. If you can , please respond to my post because I am dying to know how he is really like. Thank You Very Much!!!!!!!!
His velocity is not drooping, but at full velocity, he has no control. . But, he definitely gives you heartburn. So many walks. So little time to breathe
Slider used in only emergency situations because of injury. Guaranteed to put at least one or two guys on base per outing. But he can still get the job done, he just has to be more creative (the use of change-up). The change in scenery will be a benefit to him his first year, but not after that, as batters will catch on. Cannot handle pressure well, or the post season (often missing his spots and giving up walks and jacks).
The change to the NL should greatly benefit him since an important part of his success is the deception in his delivery. Unfortunately, once teams catch up to him they start to lay off his pitches outside the zone which, in addition to his overall wildness, helps to contribute to unnecessary walks. Often times those walks will turn into a SB and a guy in scoring position because Frankie does a lousy job of holding runners and has that funky delivery. More often than not he will get the job done though you will be in for a roller coaster ride since he rarely has a 1-2-3 inning. HIs blown saves are often a source of frustration since he often beats himself more than the other team beats him with all the walks, stolen bases, and occasional wild pitches that he allows which helps to set up a situation where a single will score a run.
It seems that Frankie is evolving from a dominant, strikeout closer, to one that depends more on his defense to get him outs. Though he appears to have started his decline phase, I don’t think this will present a problem for the Mets since he is only signed for 3 years. I wouldn’t worry too much about him since he is better than guys like Heilman and Luis Ayala.
his velocity drop has been to better utilize his other pitches.
He can still pitch up there, just chooses not to. Also, although his K/9 have been dropping, hteyre still excellent, but his BB/9 have been going up. He doesnt always do his job effortlessly, but the rest of AL West is jumping for joy now that hes gone
wasn’t so much the velocity – although it was a concern. It was more so his control. If you go to the plate and never take the bat off your shoulder – you will get on base 90% of the time.
His deception and movement is his strength – if you lay off the result in balls more than strikes…
With Tex we would be on the verge of a championship. Without him I’m hearing the word rebuilding. I hope we can put some pieces together and be a serious contender. But, right now this is just as disappointing as losing in the first round of the playoffs.
To all you negative whiny fucking bitches in here: BOO-FRICKIN-HOO. Go hang yourselves now please so I dont have to read all this whiny crap on my favorite website. Time to jump ship bandwagoneers, I wont miss you……
Complaining he is gone does not make you a bangwagoner you prick.
There is a difference between being pissed the best player on your team left you for the team that has knocked you out of the playoffs three times, and being a bandwagoner. Figure it out dipshit
You are right though, complaining he is gone does not make you a bandwagoner. I wrote that to get under peoples skin….. like you! Your signature says it all too! Go cry to your mommy hauldonkey. If you think ONE overpriced player is going to make this team you are a fucking idiot! Did you watch the playoffs? He hit a bunch of cheap singles! Oh no, we lost our rental! now what do we do? Throw in the towel, its all over!
He may or may not take the pressure well since for the most part he has been coddled by the Halo fans except for this year when you heard more than a few boos after he blew a save. Evidently he wouldn’t mind the boos and pressure since he seems to be pleased with the passion New York fans have for baseball versus the more easygoing attitude of fans in Anaheim.
It doesn’t make sense for the Angels to sign an aging and expensive Lowe when they have young and cheap starting pitching. If you guys had a rotation of Santana, Lowe, Pelfrey, Maine, and Garland IMO that would put you guys over the top against Philly considering all they have is Cole Hamels, an ancient Moyer, an inconsistent Myers, and garbage in Blanton, and whomever their 5th starter is.
If it was the Yankee’s that outbid the Red Sox I doubt Henry would say they wouldn’t be a factor. Souns like the Angels outbid them or another team…. Fingers crossed!
the rumor just reproted that Bostoan has backed out, it is Boras trying to get more money out of them by threatening to take Wash offer. So John henry says that they are backing out. It is just hte BoSox putting the ball back into Boras’ hands
in the same range as Boston. So either the Orioles and/or Nats stepped up their offer big time or the Yankees just entered the picture. OR the reports about Bostons 8/184 were false and they weren’t in that range. Either way, this is good news for us.
They need him more than Boston. Plus they would love nothing more than to p*ss Red Sox nation off by coming in last minute. I bet they offered him 8 or 10 years for 200 million.
I usually take his word over almost anyones in regards to Angel news, but he is surly wrong on this one. ESPN is reporting the Chowds are out of the running!
either the reports about the red sox offer were false or the nats or o’s just mortgaged their lives away and will require a federal bailout in 4 years when there ARM is Up.
I just hope the Yankees have not stepped in. Their fans have been clamoring for days for them to get the Yankees. Reagins may be standing firm because he he has the high offer. We can only hope
I think the sox and borass are playing a game of chicken.
no way you from front runner to bowing out especially in such a short time period.
either the red sox offer was never legit since they kept it under wraps and were hoping to get Tex with a lower offer or they are calling Bora$$ bluff with this public declaration.
I'm over at Over The Monster and this is the latest on their thread on the subject:
Mike Lynch on Ch 5:
Sox are OUT
A source says there is a $200M deal on the table
The Yankees are in it
Boras believes he’ll have a deal sometime tomorrow
Sox only wanted to spend $160M, then were willing to go to $185
And on a sidenote, if the Yankees land Tex, I hope the Rays repeat as division champs and send that miserable prick Hank Steinbrenner into fits of Tourret’s Syndrome.
On a serious note, am I mistaken in thinking I read that Boras has told the Nationals they'd have to pay a lot more than BoSox or us, im assuming because they suck?
I care a whole lot less now that i know Tex won’t wear a RedSux uniform. He could sign with the Nationals, Orioles—hell, even the Skanks—but knowing he won’t be a Chowder Head makes life a whole lot better!
I just had that deep down feeling that he was going to the Sux.
I kinda felt like we were Robert the Bruce in braveheart…finally agreeing to back William Wallace, just for our father to sell him out to the English:
Robert the Bruce: [after William is betrayed] Father! You. Rotting. Bastard. Why? Why?
Robert Bruce, Sr.: Longshanks required Wallace. So did our nobles. That was the price of your crown.
Robert the Bruce: Die! I want you to die.
Robert Bruce, Sr.: Soon enough I’ll be dead. And you’ll be king.
Robert the Bruce: I don’t want anything from you. You’re not a man, and you’re not my father.
Robert Bruce, Sr.: You are my son, and you have always known my mind.
Robert the Bruce: You deceived me.
Robert Bruce, Sr.: You let yourself be deceived. In your heart, you always knew what had to happen here. At last, you know what it means to hate. Now you’re ready to be a king.
Im on the EXACT same boat as you.......I dont care who gets him
If its us GREAT, Art is spending alot of his money.
If its not GREAT, the Sux didnt get him, and if he goes with the Nats or O’s we wont ever hear about him
If he goes with the Skanks, We OWN THEM.
I'm kinda hoping he doesn't go to the Skanks as well
I’m not sure if we will be owning them when they have a three headed rotation monster of CC, AJ, and Wang as well as Tex and A-Rod when all we have is Torii Hunter and an aging Vlad.
You’re just a little late to the party Grich. Rev posted this hours ago when it appeared invevitable that Tex was going to the Chowds. Then about an hour ago John Henry sent out the email that you’ve probably read.
Why did John Henry have to go all the way down to Texas to find out the Sux had been out bid?
Seems like that could have been handled in a phone call, or do they have to give Boras a lie detector test in person so they know what he is telling them is true?
…maybe the Angels DID increase their offer. If they did so, it would be wise not to let the media in on it. Plus, I really can’t see Tex going to Washington or Baltimore. Surely he learned from watching A-Rod in Texas that one great player on a lousy team can’t do much. Then there’s NY. But, even their fans don’t think that the Yankees would have that much money to burn right now.
And really the Angels are the team that NEEDS Tex the most. (At least I hope so.)
If we weren’t going to signTex why would we sign Rivera? Certainly without Tex you would think that we would be going after another left fielder i.e. Dunn or Burrel
I was thinking the same way but then I said.....Fug it
If art wants to spend all that money, let him. Its not like I have season tickets that are going to keep going up, I only go to about 8 games a year, and get them cheap off ebay or from give aways, or teen night lol.
They reported that Tori Hunter was texting Teixeira today. Tori appearantly said that what the Angels did today was “spectacular.” But, he wouldn’t say what it was.
“What the Angels did was spectacular, they gave him an offer that blew everyone away, and it shows how badly they want this guy,” Hunter said. “I’m so happy they did that. I can sleep better at night. We can’t let Tex go. He’s very special on this team.”
I hope he is right

Thanks for the frickin' emotional roller coaster ride!!!
I come home from Thursday night poker…go to MLBTR and read that Henry says the Sox are a non-factor. Then I come over here and read that the Sox have signed Tex. So then I go to MLB.com to find out what the FRICK is going on and they say he hasn’t signed yet. So then I skim the comments and now I have FRICKIN’ Mark Teixeira frickin’ whiplash!!!

This Angels lineup desperately needs a couple of guys like that who can 1) get on base 2) hit HRs. I’ll put up with the sub-prime defense.

Reasons to be cheerful...

Big Easy Halofan - December 18, 2008

but, really relevant.
Actually, if his knees are healthy this year his decline in 2008 might be an anomaly.
jimmuscomp - December 18, 2008
I agree -- and really hope to see a Vlad resurgence in '09
Here’s to hoping that 2009 is a season-long late July to August ‘08 for Vladdy. Though even then, it’s hard to say that he’s worth $20 mil now if he wasn’t when he signed in ’04.
Big Easy Halofan - December 18, 2008
That Vlad deal was such a bargain
That has to be one of the best contracts ever in baseball considering he was at the time up there with Pujols, Ramirez, and A Rod. He is no longer at that level, but if he can even maintain his 2008 numbers and spread them out over a full season he is definitely worth a contract extension especially considering that he has been the face of the franchise since he signed back in 2004. I just hope Vlad ends up in the Hall as an Angel and not an Expo which is part of the reason why I want to see him finish his career as an Angel.

I have moved on
It doesn’t bother me at all. Sure it would have been nice to have Tex, but not for 184 million. What really surprises me though is that the Yankees didn’t go hard after Tex considering they have the money and their everyday lineup is aging and not exactly imposing anymore. They could have always moved Swisher to the outfield.
stolenbases - December 18, 2008
True...
But, they saw their main need – rightly or wrongly – as pitching. They decided to go youth movement in the rotation last year and Kennedy, Hughes and Joba were all hurt and/or ineffective. They didn’t want to leave anything to chance this year….
I still think they are the third best team in the division – so it will be interesting to see if they can get back to the playoffs in 2009.
jimmuscomp - December 18, 2008

UCIHalo - December 18, 2008
Trade for Kotchman
Still, I think the FO reasonably believed it had a good shot at resigning Teix. If he had any agent other than Bora$$, he more than likely would have re-signed with us, no problem.
Clutch - December 18, 2008
You know...
this is exactly how I felt at the time of the trade of Kotchman for Teix.
Teix was a worth while gamble – it just didn’t pan out in October.
jimmuscomp - December 18, 2008
I think the trade was worth the gamble
Kotch may prove me wrong, but I see him as an in his prime Doug Mientkiewicz type of player which I don’t see as a big loss. I see Morales as having more offensive upside than Kotch though his glove at first will end up being average at best.
The only negative I see with trading Kotch for Tex is that he could have been potentially valuable trade bait this off season for a team looking to unload their expensive players for someone young, cheap, serviceable, and most importantly under team control for awhile. Basically we traded Kotch for draft picks which we so desperately need in order to try and finally produce some impact bats that will hopefully stay healthy.
stolenbases - December 18, 2008
Mientkiewicz is shorting Kotch
Mienssdjfsf didnt cary the bat Kotch does. I imagine Kotch as basically a slightly worse hitting Nick Johnson with a much better glove
anaheim angels - December 18, 2008
Kotchman
is just an average 1B
They get the 2 high picks to try and help rebuild the farm system, which is devoid of high end talent right now. It was a good deal. You play to win the world series and the Angels did that.
NewportHalo - December 18, 2008
exactly
two first round picks is the worst case scenario. while Krotch was an amazing defender with alot of upside with the bat (and a personal favorite) the trade had to be done. The big bat theory had to be tested and for only kotchman and marek, we practically stole Tex

k-rod
hey guys, I am a die hard mets fan and I am just curious about k-rod’s velocity. Is all of this talk about k-rod giving you heartburn and the dropp of velocity true? I thaught it would be better to ask people who watched him on a daily basis and know all about him. If you can , please respond to my post because I am dying to know how he is really like. Thank You Very Much!!!!!!!!
k-rod 2009 - December 18, 2008
K-Rod is good..
But he’s not as good as the numbers say. It’s always an adventure with him. Not very many 1-2-3 innings.
10 27 02 - December 18, 2008
His velocity is not drooping, but at full velocity, he has no control. . But, he definitely gives you heartburn. So many walks. So little time to breathe
vlad IS my man - December 18, 2008
His arm is hurting him at 26 years old.
His decrease in velocity and the near disappearance of his hard slider indicate that something is amiss.
GarretSaysSuckIt - December 18, 2008
Velocity down...
Slider used in only emergency situations because of injury. Guaranteed to put at least one or two guys on base per outing. But he can still get the job done, he just has to be more creative (the use of change-up). The change in scenery will be a benefit to him his first year, but not after that, as batters will catch on. Cannot handle pressure well, or the post season (often missing his spots and giving up walks and jacks).
bruinbrah - December 18, 2008
K-Rod
I wouldn’t worry too much about him since he is better than guys like Heilman and Luis Ayala.
stolenbases - December 18, 2008
his velocity drop has been to better utilize his other pitches.
He can still pitch up there, just chooses not to. Also, although his K/9 have been dropping, hteyre still excellent, but his BB/9 have been going up. He doesnt always do his job effortlessly, but the rest of AL West is jumping for joy now that hes gone
anaheim angels - December 18, 2008
Bigger worry for me
wasn’t so much the velocity – although it was a concern. It was more so his control. If you go to the plate and never take the bat off your shoulder – you will get on base 90% of the time.
His deception and movement is his strength – if you lay off the result in balls more than strikes…
gorams77 - December 19, 2008
Say it ain't so
With Tex we would be on the verge of a championship. Without him I’m hearing the word rebuilding. I hope we can put some pieces together and be a serious contender. But, right now this is just as disappointing as losing in the first round of the playoffs.
10 27 02 - December 18, 2008

It doesn’t make sense for the Angels to sign an aging and expensive Lowe when they have young and cheap starting pitching. If you guys had a rotation of Santana, Lowe, Pelfrey, Maine, and Garland IMO that would put you guys over the top against Philly considering all they have is Cole Hamels, an ancient Moyer, an inconsistent Myers, and garbage in Blanton, and whomever their 5th starter is.

They need him more than Boston. Plus they would love nothing more than to p*ss Red Sox nation off by coming in last minute. I bet they offered him 8 or 10 years for 200 million.
stolenbases - December 18, 2008
apparently, the 8/184 reports were false...
Link here.
bighead - December 18, 2008
Don't understand why Boston was so covert at first
then they come out with a virtual press release saying they are out.
Sounds fishy

Rev is wrong!
I usually take his word over almost anyones in regards to Angel news, but he is surly wrong on this one. ESPN is reporting the Chowds are out of the running!
Angel Hawker - December 18, 2008
still worried
either the reports about the red sox offer were false or the nats or o’s just mortgaged their lives away and will require a federal bailout in 4 years when there ARM is Up.
UCIHalo - December 18, 2008
lol. So in 2012 Obama will be running on the platform of bailing out the Nationals.
Mayheminthehood - December 18, 2008
it would be ironic that a team named the nationals would need a bailout
“vote change on your all star ballots”

Mark Teixeria is NOT gone.
Mark Teixeria is gone…………………………………………………NOT

Hahahaha
Scott BORAT

Chzburger Jones - December 18, 2008
Yankees or a mystery team?
I just hope the Yankees have not stepped in. Their fans have been clamoring for days for them to get the Yankees. Reagins may be standing firm because he he has the high offer. We can only hope
AMB07 - December 18, 2008
this is too weird
I think the sox and borass are playing a game of chicken.
no way you from front runner to bowing out especially in such a short time period.
either the red sox offer was never legit since they kept it under wraps and were hoping to get Tex with a lower offer or they are calling Bora$$ bluff with this public declaration.
UCIHalo - December 18, 2008
Isn't it possible that Reagins has been the one being manipulative? What if our offer was for more than what is being speculated on?
Mayheminthehood - December 18, 2008

Also, THIS JUST IN
Johnny Rivers is back!
That may put the Halos out of the running for Dunn—unless no Teix, in which case maybe he’d be our 1B, with Kendry in Right.
In the meantime, would be nice if the Media would stop assuming LAA has a love-on for Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko…

yay Johnny Rivers!!
if we can get him (cheap) and Tex, i’ll effing love our GM

i think the juan rivera news might not be good in regards to getting tex
it might mean that they are also out on tex and are now on different avenues
UCIHalo - December 18, 2008
MLBTR is reporting
that the Angels are operating as if Tex will be a Red Sox…..but apparently the Red Sox are out of the bidding. So I have no idea WTF is going on.
Chzburger Jones - December 18, 2008
i think the Yahoo guy wrote that before we knew the Sox were out of it
that’s my theory anyway
howiestheman - December 18, 2008
I'm over at Over The Monster and this is the latest on their thread on the subject:
Mike Lynch on Ch 5:
Sox are OUT
A source says there is a $200M deal on the table
The Yankees are in it
Boras believes he’ll have a deal sometime tomorrow
Sox only wanted to spend $160M, then were willing to go to $185
Mayheminthehood - December 18, 2008
if yankees bid 200
its over and tex is a yank
screw them too. It made more sense that he would end up with them anyways
UCIHalo - December 18, 2008

Angel Hawker - December 18, 2008
I think John Henry is messin' with the media and Boras
The Red Sox are one of the most statistically inclined organizations in baseball and Tex is one hell of a good fit for them.
Fan Since 1981 - December 18, 2008
This is too intense for me
First I was like “Okay, let’s turn the page.”
But then it’s like a Frankie closing: two outs, runners on first and second, Milton Bradley at the plate.
In other words, I’m going to go have a drink and hope this gets sorted out while I’m gone…
Zoe Necrosis - December 18, 2008
As John J. Rambo once said...
“NOTHING IS OVER!!!! NOTHING!!!!”
And on a sidenote, if the Yankees land Tex, I hope the Rays repeat as division champs and send that miserable prick Hank Steinbrenner into fits of Tourret’s Syndrome.

ESPN News has reported it
tanana40 - December 18, 2008
they just reported it ... sox owner ... "we are not going to be a factor"
Red - December 18, 2008
Would the Sox really let the Yanks get him?
After losing out on A-Rod to the Yanks, how could the Sox possibly let something like this happen again? It must be either the Os or the Nats.
10 27 02 - December 18, 2008
On a serious note, am I mistaken in thinking I read that Boras has told the Nationals they'd have to pay a lot more than BoSox or us, im assuming because they suck?
Mayheminthehood - December 18, 2008
Maybe they can pass a bill to get taxpayers to put
Big Easy Halofan - December 18, 2008

Big Easy Halofan - December 18, 2008
You know what...
I care a whole lot less now that i know Tex won’t wear a RedSux uniform. He could sign with the Nationals, Orioles—hell, even the Skanks—but knowing he won’t be a Chowder Head makes life a whole lot better!
Angel Hawker - December 18, 2008
i agree
though i’d REALLY like to have him here
howiestheman - December 18, 2008
Agreed...
Robert the Bruce: My hate will die … with you.
Angel Hawker - December 18, 2008
Im on the EXACT same boat as you.......I dont care who gets him
If its us GREAT, Art is spending alot of his money.
If its not GREAT, the Sux didnt get him, and if he goes with the Nats or O’s we wont ever hear about him
If he goes with the Skanks, We OWN THEM.
acuda27 - December 18, 2008
I'm kinda hoping he doesn't go to the Skanks as well
I’m not sure if we will be owning them when they have a three headed rotation monster of CC, AJ, and Wang as well as Tex and A-Rod when all we have is Torii Hunter and an aging Vlad.
Chzburger Jones - December 18, 2008
OK.. am I on CRACK??
Those two websites say that Red Sox arent going to sign him..
So why is everyone cursing him?
Grichfan - December 18, 2008
long story
tanana40 - December 18, 2008
lol
You’re just a little late to the party Grich. Rev posted this hours ago when it appeared invevitable that Tex was going to the Chowds. Then about an hour ago John Henry sent out the email that you’ve probably read.
ReggieBullits - December 18, 2008
Why did John Henry have to go all the way down to Texas to find out the Sux had been out bid?
Seems like that could have been handled in a phone call, or do they have to give Boras a lie detector test in person so they know what he is telling them is true?
44FAN - December 18, 2008
Desperation?
Maybe they weren’t high bidders and it was a last ditch effort, face to face?
Seriously though, it’s Borass. Who the hell knows.
ReggieBullits - December 18, 2008
shit shit shit
this is like the Dark Knight. I think Henry went down to Texas to extradite Boras, and tried taking Tex too
anaheim angels - December 18, 2008
We should celebrating, right??
Grichfan - December 18, 2008
i guess ... as long as he doesn't go to the yankers or sux

On a Positive Relaxing Note
This just in: Arte, Scott, Tex, & Manny were seen at Wahoo’s lighting a blunt with a thousand dollar bill.
Looks like we are signing Tex & Manny.

they got the munchies so Ninja went out on a Del Taco run.
Chzburger Jones - December 18, 2008

Grichfan - December 18, 2008
Arte has said from the get-go that Teix is his man.
44FAN - December 18, 2008
that's what Schilling said too

howiestheman - December 18, 2008
So how about we start the "Tex" is still alive thread?
That way all the lemmings can back away from the cliff
Grichfan - December 18, 2008
i called that one a long time ago sir
oddly enough, i wasn’t blasted for the optimism.
howiestheman - December 18, 2008
As crazy as this sounds...
10 27 02 - December 18, 2008
NOBODY IS WORTH $200 Million Dollars
except who I say is worth $200 million dollars
Dono Romantico - December 18, 2008
The signing of Rivera maybe telling
If we weren’t going to signTex why would we sign Rivera? Certainly without Tex you would think that we would be going after another left fielder i.e. Dunn or Burrel
AMB07 - December 18, 2008
Rivera is cheap and good
and leaves you more money to sign Rivera.
i agree
howiestheman - December 18, 2008
yea, I still don't want to spend more than 200 million
however it is a small victory if the sox don’t get him
UCIHalo - December 18, 2008
I was thinking the same way but then I said.....Fug it
If art wants to spend all that money, let him. Its not like I have season tickets that are going to keep going up, I only go to about 8 games a year, and get them cheap off ebay or from give aways, or teen night lol.
