Tough loss
once again we fall flat in the post season
Thanks Halos!
Los Angeles de Anaheim - October 6, 2008
I'll take it
It was way better to go out this way than getting swept in three games. The team showed heart and came up a bunt short of victory.
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
great regular season. period.
we tried… many questionable calls… bleh.
some things NEED to be changed.
howiestheman - October 6, 2008
Wholesale changes. No sacred cows.
snowhor - October 6, 2008
amen to that
deejayelleseven - October 6, 2008
have to agree here
really, the MINDSET of the team needs to be changed.
you can’t play for 1 run post-2002. it doesn’t work anymore. you want to win championships? catch up with the times.
howiestheman - October 6, 2008
yea no more squezze plays when tied in the ninth and the season is on the line
too risky…
pinch hit for a flyball hitter and sac him in..
Angels baseball beat itself in the ninth tonight….
GO RAYS
dtownmbrown - October 6, 2008
i dont think the squeeze was a bad call, aybar put too much flash into it by trying to slap at it, he should have just laid a howie kendrick-like bunt
AnaheimHalos61 - October 6, 2008
Did anyone else get the feeling
that this team was just better built for the long haul and not short post season series. We’ve got the depth to get 100 wins when people get injured but not the star power / hitting potential / mojo or what have you to beat a team that really wasn’t better than us.
teopeht - October 7, 2008
No. Not buying it
Our front three are stellar and our fourth is as good as anyone else.
hauldog - October 7, 2008
Pitching-wise you're right, but hitting-wise, this team is not built for the post-season.
snowhor - October 8, 2008
Post season games are low scoring
Unfortunately they forgot how to play defense
hauldog - October 8, 2008
god damnit we should have won that game
unf**king believable

Keep it positive in here guys.
My eyes are gonna be like a hawk. And I will be relentless.
It was a great season. Unfortunate how it ended though :(
scottnak - October 6, 2008
Dude...
who are you, the friggin’ blog police? I’ll be sure to cleanse all my opinions before I enter this hallowed fanpost. Whatever, give me a break.
I was at a rehearsal tonight and “watching” on my phone – but couldn’t believe the squeeze call…
I’m going to watch the game now and see how bad it really was…
Unreal call. Really ballsy – or stupid.
jimmuscomp - October 6, 2008
it was a good game
Seik1177 - October 6, 2008
You got the game thread to vent.
Look at the title. Look at how it’s goin.
Just want to keep it positive.
scottnak - October 6, 2008
Kendrick lost the series for the Angels
His 2 errors cost 4 runs total.
Pathetic
HaloPride - October 6, 2008
Correction... 5 runs total
not to mention is impressive 2 for 15???? Thank you Mr. Hatcher.
MidwayCityLivestock - October 6, 2008
Thank you, right back, Rev!
Just wish it could have ended on a higher note.
MurrietaMick - October 6, 2008
I'm sad that we lost, but at least we fought till the end.
We weren’t pushovers—we made them earn that series victory, which is more than I can say for the prior October matchups against them.
cardinalwraith - October 6, 2008
i am drained...
its been fun
BigBangRobbDawgg - October 6, 2008
Yes it has
Seik1177 - October 6, 2008
It was a good effort....
a great effort was required.
Damn…this..hurts. So close.
Thanks to the Rev and Scottnak for all your work. I will try to thank you better at another time…just can’t think too clearly right now. Take care guys.

deejayelleseven - October 6, 2008
yup,
Same story different line up. Torii earned his 90 millies, tex was clutch, vlady showed up, we need some presence from the youngins, hopefully after this, they will be prepared for next year, we will be there again next year.

thanks Rev and HH peeps
I haven’t been this pissed and had a whole bunch of other people to be angry with about a season since 1995.

gohalos912 - October 6, 2008
Thanks for a great site Rev
kudos to you
Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
Good luck to Frankie and Teixeira
Hope they find teams that know how to at least show up in October.
LA Seitz - October 6, 2008
Ignoring the flame bait
Because I like your posts, your blog, and this was an emotional end to the season.
ViolaHalo - October 6, 2008
Why leave Shields in?
He’s already gassed and gave up a hit and then a hard line drive at first. Should have taken him out (and I was actually saying that before Kotsay lined out).
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
Also
Why squeeze when they clearly knew what was coming? What the worst that happens if they don’t give Aybar a ball to bunt?? He walks…which puts the double play in order. That was not smart ball.
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
Because Scioscia trusts him more than Frankie?
jimmuscomp - October 6, 2008
Better than to have K-Rod serve up the game on a silver platter to Bay
182 - October 6, 2008
where was our lone lefty in the pen? he only threw 8 pitches the night before
and why did bay get to see two fastballs out over the plate? did they think he learned how to hit a curve after his last failure of an at bat?
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 6, 2008
Was this an organizational loss ?
Were we beat at every level ?
higdog - October 6, 2008
Nope.
I think our starting pitching was every bit as good as theirs. But defensively and at the plate, they were better.
ViolaHalo - October 6, 2008
Boston signs and develops professional hitters.
Ours are overmatched, which results in wild swings at bad pitches. And the reliance on cute gimmicky shit like a suicide squeeze to the our shot to stay alive in the playoffs.
snowhor - October 6, 2008
Thanks
I dont post really, but I love reading this place. Want to thank everyone for making it interesting.
Hats off to Tex, i hope he returns, i’m not expecting miracles. Also nice job hunter, lackey, and no matter what, we cant blame shields. I’m happy with all our big money actual (cept GMJ). Now we need a new closer, starter, 1b (i hope not), and 2b. We must replace Kendrick. I have never been more upset/disappointed with any player ever.
Bring on the spring! Go Dodgers! Go Rays!
Zookeeper - October 6, 2008
Mahalo Rev
and also to the others that help you with this site.
eyespy - October 6, 2008
this game is still in the top of the ninth
ball falls out due to hustle from the runner, same story as a runner diving into the catcher, ball comes loose, player is safe
ANewFoundThrice - October 6, 2008
This site is great!!
Tough year but I’ll be right here next year rooting on the Angels like always!!
angelsown3417 - October 6, 2008
Papelbon on TBS
Acting like a complete tool. So what’s new? Red Sox nation (from the fans right down to the players) are genetically incapable of comporting themselves in any manner other than offensive.
ViolaHalo - October 6, 2008
Boston is the capital of Asshatland.
gdog009 - October 6, 2008
let em celebrate look at what Krod does on the mound after every save
dtownmbrown - October 6, 2008
yeah pointing to your dead grandfather is always a bad thing
seriously forget “the nation.” im waiting for a rays sweep and for them all to choke on the r’s added to the end of every other word.
but other than that, it was a great season. not the way we want it to end, but it is a great time to be an angels fan
linkbruin - October 6, 2008
How many days until Spring Training 2009?
ladybug - October 6, 2008

halofan4life - October 6, 2008

snowhor - October 6, 2008
Sort of numb to the world right now... just had my heart ripped out.
Great fansite.
Red - October 6, 2008
I know what you mean bro
Im just so crushed and heartbroken. The guys battled so hard and to end it like that hurts real bad. Hopefully we get the title next year though!!!
angelsown3417 - October 6, 2008
So many positives...
about this season. You can’t judge success based on whether or not you win the world series, or you will be a depressed fan. It was a lot of fun to watch the Halos win 100 for the first time, and KRod get the saves record. Just think of it this way… what would we talk about if we all liked the Orioles.
ponusbaum43 - October 6, 2008
Absolutely right
Come on, we played 166 games this season and won 101 of them. That’s pretty darn good. We still have a ways to go, but this is all a learning experience.
Just wait for next year.
wildwill - October 6, 2008
Better to be the Halos than..
the rest of the division. But common, ask the players and Artie and I think they will have a different view.
Dono Romantico - October 6, 2008
High Expectations
always tough to live up to
Rays had none this year and thats why they are loose and ready to win.
Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
i am pulling for the rays
cause next year they will be the 2008 mariners
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Nobody
is saying that because we didn’t win the world series this year, it was a failure but looking at the past 5 years I don’t think you can see a bunch of positives. A team that is on the precipice for 5 straight years and just can’t perform in the playoffs is not all that successful in my book.
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
I judge it by the piss poor manner with which they lost.
Not the Angels I am accustomed to watching.
hauldog - October 6, 2008
True
they played like a team that was surprised to be there rather than a team that expected to be there
Seik1177 - October 6, 2008
Um...
We’d talk about Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken jr., even Babe Ruth (tech), not to mention 3 World Championships… Long way to go there ponus…
MidwayCityLivestock - October 6, 2008
Not so much
I live in Orioles country, and I can assure no one is talking about any of those players. At all. Just the Redskins.
ponusbaum43 - October 8, 2008
We keep losing
we trade for Tex and sign Torii and we still lose. What is the common denominator ?
higdog - October 6, 2008
we did better this year by far
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
boston is better set up then we are for a short series
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Failure to execute has nothing to do with the length of a series
The Angels lost because they simply don’t show up to play in October. They’d lose if if the series was five games, seven games, or 57 games. They simply don’t show up when the lights are brighter.
LA Seitz - October 6, 2008
kind of
definitely we had some guys not show, howie and aybar. but everyone one of those games were close. and most of them were decided in the late innings.
my point is that a short series mitigates our advantage over the sox.
here is a fun test. compare the angels starting post season roster, position by position to the angels post season roster and tell him how many players you wouldn’t swap.
tex and maybe torii is what i come up with.
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
ga 3/18 out of the #2 hole
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 6, 2008
going for it all
and getting cold feet near seasons end, we had izturis gone for the season and couldnt pull the trigger on a world series MVP hometown hero in Eckstein.
ANewFoundThrice - October 6, 2008
yea in hindsight that was huge. with Eck they win this series easily
MH252525 - October 6, 2008
Somehow
I doubt Eckstein would have made a difference.
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
agreed
Seik1177 - October 6, 2008
Thank you too Rev
cupie, yeswecan, scottnak, ladybug, and all the great posters. This hurts but it will be fun next year.
And Quentin will still be out on on a fly ball to CF.
highlandhalo - October 6, 2008
outhit. outpitched. outmanaged. outfielded. I guess the better team won. The Angels would not have beaten Tampa playing like that anyway.

stuck in Romania - October 6, 2008
If the Angels realize they need to change their offensive philosophy
then the season is not a complete loss. Hopefully Naps is full time catcher next year. Let K-Rod walk. Dondo is nails. Let Garland walk and take the draft pick or two. Sign Tex!
MH252525 - October 6, 2008
that's a HUGE "if" right now
but i completely agree with everything you just said.
this offseason should be reeeeaaaally interesting.
howiestheman - October 6, 2008
Yeah, that's what I thought they would have learned after last year. And the year before that.
snowhor - October 6, 2008
fire hatcher and give tex his job and salary

scioscia to loyal to a fault. he would never allow it

stolenbases - October 6, 2008
not in this organization
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Yeah, the problem is larger than Hatcher.
We sign and develop overly aggressive swing at everything hitters. It’s the organizational philosophy from the top down.
snowhor - October 7, 2008

this place was fun.
howiestheman - October 6, 2008
And will continue to be fun in the offseason.

UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
He's just back from an injury
don’t know if he would have done any better, but I am bias and think if he hadn’t been injured just before the end of the season, he would have done better.
Seik1177 - October 6, 2008
agree!

its hard to say
but seriously no more postseason rehab stints
linkbruin - October 6, 2008
hard to take
fun series to watch, but we bungled it in so many ways. I only have one wish now – and that is to see the Rays rock Papelbohn. I just saw him on a post-game TBS interview and he needs a serious lesson in humility. Rays in 5!
steveray8 - October 6, 2008
I'm pissed off, but as usual I'm level headed.
I knew having to face Lester twice would not be easy.
I knew the regular season means little.
I was not blinded into thinking this would be an easy match-up as so many of you were, so this loss is somewhat easier to take.
As for next season. Signing Tex is a must in my eyes. Letting K-Rod go is an easy decision, as well. Better win soon baby, cause who knows how much longer our window stays open. Thankfully the rest of the division is a joke—for now!
Floppy Bad Boy - October 6, 2008
Thanks Failos
for another excellent but meaningless regular season. I’m sorry but I’m just being realistic. The Angels just making the post-season and then choking is flat out unacceptable. It’s not a successful season. It’s a failure. I’m sick of this BS.
Monthly F-bomb
Fuck this. Go Dodgers.
Chzburger Jones - October 6, 2008
have fun on the bandwagon
i could go on much more of a rant, but dont have the heart right now. fans like you make the rest of us look bad, so thanks guy.
linkbruin - October 6, 2008
Thank you HH!
I love this place, one of the best web communities I’ve come across. I agree with Floppy Bad Boy (nice name btw) in that we MUST sign Tex, not even a question. Tex > Frankie by a lot. Next year should be another easy AL West championship for us, and with Escobar back who knows what we can accomplish. It’s a huge disappointment, to say the least, getting beat by Boston yet again, but I’m already fired up for ’09. Go Halos!
deer - October 6, 2008
Ahhhhhhhhhh ........... Bring on the free agent signings already !
Dono Romantico - October 6, 2008
Such a heartbreaking way to end the season.
Aybar really failed us miserably. He should have been on his knees, doing everything he could to make contact. I don’t blame Scioscia at all for that call. I’m listening to Rex Hudler right now, and he thinks it was a bad call.
Oh well, the season is over. I would have to consider it a colossal failure.
Awesome site, Rev…. take care of yourself guys, I’ll see you next year.
bc56274 - October 6, 2008
They saw it coming
Worst thing that happens is that they walk Aybar and the DP is in order. They were not going to give him anything he could bunt.
HungryHunter - October 6, 2008
That pitch was low enough to be bunted..
At the very least you’ve got to make contact with it.
bc56274 - October 6, 2008
no, thank you Rev
your site has given an Angels fan in Idaho an Angels community to share the good times and the bad times (like tonight). Heck, just the daily picks game is enough to keep me happy, It will be an interesting off-season (to say the least) and I can’t wait until next spring.
Go Angels!
tanana40 - October 6, 2008
Thanks Halos Heaven for a mostly enjoyable 2008
Still too disappointed to be happy-go-lucky and not really in the mood to look back at the season, as a whole, yet. It’s going to be a strange feeling waking up tomorrow knowing that this season is finally over. This will be a very interesting offseason though — things will likely look a lot different come Spring Training.
Go Uncle Joe and the Tampa Bay Rays. May they piss in the face of Chowd Nation and take down the crown.
Big Easy Halofan - October 6, 2008
A Purely Fantastic Season
There are so many negative things that could be said right now but bottom line is we had an amazing regular season and no one can take that away. All of the memories from this year will always stick with me, including toriis walk of slam, krods 58th, winning the AL west, and one of the best postseason games i have ever seen last night. I am just as torn and broken about what has just happened and i hope those chowderheads get destroyed by the rays in the next round… heck if nothing else pull for joe and percy (even tho i don’t think he is currently healthy enough to play, its still his team)… spring will be here before you know it and i dunno about everyone else but i think we have a team built to succeed for many years
Let’s Go Angels!
I, trojanangelfan, will always believe
trojanangelfan - October 6, 2008
You know? It's baseball.
It’s a great game. It delivers so much drama! So many big moments. That moment, when a pitcher looks down towards the batter, that is one of my favorite things about any game. Here is a man, on a hill, who needs to trick a guy with a large piece of lumber. He has an army behind him, armed with leather, determination, and hoping for a little luck.
The Angels delivered dizzying, dizzying highs this season. All of the members of the team? They’re human beings. They didn’t go all the way? Oh well, they do this every year, and as long as America stands, we’ll do it again. I am so lucky to have been alive when the Angels won it all. They’re strong, and they’ll be strong. And if they’re not? They’re not. We’ll keep watching! We’ll wear the jerseys and put on the caps, we’ll cheer and hug and drink and eat. We’ll go to games, and we will snub our nose at the stat-heads. I’ll be telling my children about Vladdy, and Scot, and Frankie. I love this game.
This was a great year. I hate reading how pissed you all are. You did what you could, with your support. It wasn’t in the cards! Now I am thinking about the team that will win the world series. I’m thinking about their fans. About the version of me, hoping and hoping. His dreams will be realized. You have to learn how to lose in order to understand why winning is so fantastic.
Thanks again, Angels! I’ll be there next year, like I was this year. And the year after that.
RubixsQube - October 6, 2008
Excellent
Nice post and you are 100% right on. We love baseball for the same reasons which is why it is such a great sport. I hate to see the Chowda’s win again and really question what game the umps were watching….but that is all water under the bridge now.
When you step back and look at the season, it was pretty amazing. The Angel’s have a great organization from the top down. There is not a greater fan experience in the entire league than the one you have at the Big A. From the guy that takes your ticket to the team itself, it is pure heaven.
If I could have just one final wish before I look to the horizan of next season, that would be that Chip Caray has a horrible, disfiguring accident whereby his testicles are no longer connected to his body, then the world would be perfect and all will be as it should be..
Goodnight.

Thanks, Rev
Let’s cook up some good projects this offseason, whaddya say? That Top 100 list could use a thorough refreshing, or we could combine everyone’s talents & memories to compile new lists, arguments, anecdotes, etc.
In the meantime, I’m with Seitz — we battled and battled, but we really played like ass this series, and that’s just unacceptable this far into the Scioscia Program. Don’t know what is to be done, if anything, but it definitely need to be acknowledged.
mattwelch - October 6, 2008
Strong in the middle
Catcher was good in the series and CF was strong as well but the SS / 2B was god awful. Not sure you could get a old pair of used riddell cleats for HK
Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
A fun project would be: Whatever happened to? or Where are they now?
As a long time Angels’ fan, I often sit around and wonder whatever happened to Dave Chalk, Rance Mulliniks, Paul Hartzell, even Ike Hampon, etc. I know it would be tough but collectively I bet we could put together an interesting list. When you spend the winter in Idaho you need such projects.
tanana40 - October 6, 2008
Excellent idea
The team itself has actually been pretty good with alumni relations the past few years (thanks, Arte!), but we could definitely put some good stuff together, I think.

I will be around doing the baseball thing. Maybe we can get John Buck out of City Hall…..he is a tie guy now

Just whatever happened to Angels' catchers would be fun
add Terry Humphrey, Ed Ott, Lance Parrish, Jorge Fabregas, Ron Tingely, Greg Meyers….

Don't forget the first comming of Mendoza Mathis
John Orton
Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
Wasn't Jorge Fabregas supposed to be a great catcher?
That of course never lived up to his potential

Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
SS and 2B really needs to be addressed this off season
If you want a championship team, having both Aybar and HK playing everyday isn’t going to get it done. Aybar has the speed and defense while HK has the speed, but their lack of power and discipline at the plate really hurts the offense.
stolenbases - October 6, 2008
Possible Free Agents at SS and 2B (the ones that aren't awful, anyway)
2B : Orlando Hudson, Mark Ellis, Grit-and-Hustle, and some aging players (Durham, Grudzliefnlasdfjklds, Loretta, Kent)
SS : Cabrera, Furcal, Renteria?
These are never the deepest positions, obviously, but there is precious little on the free agent market right now.
182 - October 6, 2008
Please remember Figgins was awful in the 2004 and 2005 playoffs but was quite effective this year.
HK choked but the guy is and will be a great player. Aybar was always a risk to me, I like Izzy but Aybar still might be a fine major league shortstop, we were young at 2b and ss this year and it cost us in the playoffs, but don’t give up on them, particularly HK.
tanana40 - October 6, 2008
true, but our leadoff man shouldn't have 0 walks and 6 k's in a 4 game period.
his .294 obp followed by ga’s stellar 3/19(1 walk 4 k’s) was the biggest issue. if you are relying on the 8 and 9 hitters to win games, which we actually did win a game with our 9 hitter getting a hit, it’s going to be hard to win.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 6, 2008
Pretty bleak
Let’s hope that Izzy gets healthy and Wood gets a closer look
stolenbases - October 6, 2008
I can't believe you are actually thinking of getting rif of HK...
Just because he blew 3 out of 4 games… Until now he was the next batting champion…. Some of you guys need to relax a little… He’ll be fine… And are you really expecting Aibar to hit like Vlad??? Come on…
stuck in Romania - October 6, 2008
I imagine Boston should get rid of "MVP" Pedroia also...
He did worse than HK… 1 hit at .059….
stuck in Romania - October 6, 2008
Hopefully you are right
Comparing Pedroia to HK is ridiculous since Pedroia has played 2 FULL seasons of highly productive ball while our “future batting champ” has yet to play a full season in the majors due to injuries. Moreover, HK has no plate discipline which was exposed when he was flailing at breaking balls outside of the zone and swinging at first pitches.
Does HK have a chance to be a productive big league hitter with average defense? Of course. All Star and future batting champ? The jury is still out.
As far as Aybar, I don’t recall anyone saying that they expected him to hit like Vlad. If they did, people wouldn’t be pondering other options. Heck, if Aybar can have Orlando Cabrera type production and health when he was with the Halos (except the 1st year) I think most people would be thrilled.
HK and Aybar are still young and have time to develop into solid contributors. To say that they can form a championship caliber (more than a Western Division, 1st round exit) middle of the infield may be a little stretch.
stolenbases - October 7, 2008
One more thing
I should clarify that I am not advocating shipping both Aybar and Kendrick out to Pittsburgh, but to have both of them playing everyday would not be wise because they are pretty much the same type of hitter with low OBP and SLG though Kendrick can hit for average with some doubles when he’s hot.
Anyway, we already have enough low OBP and low SLG guys on the team and could use more guys that have power or at least more guys that will take an occasional walk.
stolenbases - October 7, 2008
I feel totally fine with Izzy/Aibar/ Wood and HK...
I mean it’s middle infielders… we still won 100 with them… He (HK) had a bad series… that happens… happened to Vlad before… we played 4 games… that’s it…
I just think it’s weird cuz I never heard anyone complain about Howie until this series and now everyone wants to crucify him… Just curious if Boston would have lost, if their fans woulda done the same thing with Pedroia for sucking so bad…
Just think we all need to relax a little…
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2008

Improvement!
Angels finally broke through and beat the Red Sox in the playoffs! 1-3 this postseason, versus 0-3, and 0-3 before that.
My appreciation to Rev Halofan for running a very good board.
See ya in 2009.

Proud to be an Angels fan. 2009 will be another great year for the Halos.

The thing that hurts the most
for me is that in the new millenium the Angels had been able to rein supreme over the Doyers but this year it will be the Dodgers advancing and all those ahole fans running wild
Angel Aviator - October 6, 2008
uhh
Go Cole Hamels I guess?
But, all things aside, what a year.
182 - October 6, 2008
It hurts me too
I am not going to bother watching the Dodgers-Phils series, but I will watch TB and Boston. I am guessing that the Dodgers are going to the WS, but I really hope I am wrong.
I am fortunate to be in SD most of the year and not have to listen to all the Dodger c*ck sucking that goes on in the OC/LA media even if they are playing like crap.

I think we need to have a discussion about Tek's tag
I get why reggie was ruled out. he was tagged then the ball fell out.
However, i think a case can be made that a player has to hold onto the ball until the tagging motion is completed. Tek didn’t hold onto the ball throughout the motion he used to tag out reggie
go watch it again. in slow motion it looks like an out, but in real time it looks at least questionable
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
I just thought of something...
aren’t runners usually called safe when the ball comes loose like that on a play at the plate, like after a collision? Why different at third????
bryan15 - October 6, 2008
good point
really good point.
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
lets say the play goes the other way
when reggie gets caught in the rundown, instead on going back to third he charges home and knocks tek down. tek tags him out but falls which causes the ball to pop out.
who calls him out then?
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Exactly!
He’d be safe every time.
bryan15 - October 6, 2008
also
when are we going to print some sign tex shirts, buttons and yard signs
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Sort of rubs me the wrong way that the Dogers are still playing and we're not.
We did have a great regular season, but perhaps that makes it hurt even more going out this way.
We handed the Sux this series on a platter. However, I’m still real sore about the umpiring… yeah, yeah, yeah… no excuses — but when calls are being missed, like that 3rd strike to Tex with a man on 3rd… with everything we had riding. Reggie being tagged out at 3rd… at least a questionable call.
I know one thing for damn sure… we have to sign Tex. WE HAVE TO SIGN TEX
Red - October 6, 2008
thats baseball
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
to be fair
We had the strike three on Ellsbury yesterday, and the rundown could really have gone either way and it would have been argued… The Angels have so much more potential than this.

It will be Dodgers v. Red Sox in the series
Because life hates me.
LA Seitz - October 6, 2008

UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
World Series
The Dodgers are definitely in the World Series and I have a gut feeling they are going to win unless Manny somehow gets injured, but I am not sold on Boston. They are going to have to play a lot better than they did against the Halos to beat TB unless the Rays somehow collapse.
If the Red Sox play the Dodgers in the WS, boy are they going to regret giving away Manny to the Dodgers for nothing.
Manny is the best hitter in baseball when he wants to be and can carry a team. It’s amazing what a motivated Manny can do.
stolenbases - October 6, 2008
Decompressed a bit
Because even sober I didn’t take this one well. Truly amazing past two games, and just incredible drama in the series. It was great. The only way it could have been greater is had we won.
It’s very heartbreaking, but if there weren’t pain associated with losing there would be no joy in winning. We are set up with some incredible core talent in Ervin, Saunders, Weaver, Arredondo, Napoli, Wood, Sean Rodriguez for many years to come (and plenty of supporting cast, even if they are past their prime).
This team will be good next year, and we’ll have this incredible drama to watch again next year. Maybe it’ll end in joy instead of heartbreak. And even if it doesn’t, I’ll still be proud to wear Halos red.
101halo - October 6, 2008
Crap, forgot Howie
Despite his tough series, he is a star in the making. Can’t fault a guy that wasn’t back from injury for but a week before the postseason, even if he played like crap.
101halo - October 6, 2008
really?
i am more skeptical about howie then ever.
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
I am as well
But i want to give him the benefit of the doubt, he’s just had some bad-luck injuries in his three seasons (I believe he broke a finger once on a bunt attempt or something, no?) Hopefully this series can get him straightened out.
182 - October 6, 2008
five months to think about his epic failure
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
not skeptical about his talent...
his talent and “p-word” are high… but im skeptical about his yearly DL stints… i only think how a HK47 would of been coming into this series had he avoided his last DL stint. he would of been in a groove… also.. i hope Izzy comes back heatlhy and ready to play in ’09
BigBangRobbDawgg - October 6, 2008
I don't know about Howie
I mean, I don’t know if he bounces back. We’re in Rick Ankiel territory here. Pretty much EVERYTHING he did was wrong, except for a sac bunt here or there. I’m not sure if he bounces back. I hope he does, but that type of failure can be career ending.
LA Seitz - October 6, 2008
I wasn't sold on Howie b4 the playoffs started

UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
I have
a lot of things to say about what I think the Halos should do in the offseason but I don’t want to think about that right now. I’ll save it for when it’s appropriate, whenever that is. But I will say that re-signing Tex is a must. Screw K-Rod. Let him go to the Mets. He’ll fit in perfectly with the rest of that blowpen.
Chzburger Jones - October 6, 2008
The team needs a philosophy change
I’m not asking for Billy Beane or Moneyball, but this team really needs to address the issues that it has with power and patience, and that starts from the grassroots levels of the organization. We just saw what could happen with a masher in the middle who can actually hit and walk a bit.

Just ask the Dodgers.....

UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Great fansite guys!
Very disappointed in the team, though. What’s the good in having a 100 win season if they just fall to the douchiest team in baseball again? I guess the only silver lining is that it wasn’t a sweep.
Here’s hoping that the Red Sux and their colossally douchey fans don’t make it to the world series.
chairmanofthebar - October 6, 2008
P.S.
The Angels lost this series on their own. It’s like they were playing more against themselves than Boston. Boston didn’t even play well.
chairmanofthebar - October 6, 2008
good pitching. clutch hitting
but the angels definitely helped them out
UCIHalo - October 6, 2008
Well
Our pitching was excellent for the most part (K-Rod), it’s just that we decided to stop catching the ball collectively as a team.
Except Tex. Jesus Christ, he almost single-handedly saved the season on that last play.
182 - October 6, 2008
ABSOLUTELY TRUE... Boston did not win this series... our defense handed it to them.
How many runs did they score without one of our errors? Didn’t we left 43 runs on base? What would have happened if several key calls went our way?

pissed off
Ok, I’m so F*$%ing pissed right now I can’t think straight. There no reason why we should have lost this series, in specific no reason why we should have lost two at home. 100 F’ing wins and right now we are in the same place as the shitty Mariners, spectators. I guess I can take salis in the fact that we’re not the Cubs, but it still sucks knowing that we were probably the best team.
As far as next year, I’m sure that once again renewing my seats and will be there wearing Angel Red rooting on the team to another Western Division Championship. However, I am getting a bit tired of the old “next year” mentality.
I only hope that Artie realizes that Tex should be in Angel red for many years to come.
I also want to wish F-Rod a fond adieu and good luck in a Mets uniform.

Thanks, Rev, for another successful HH season
Everything was lined up perfectly for the Angels to succeed, but they completely failed to show up in the postseason. This was a great team, and they blew it. So many opportunities to cash in runs, so many chances to close the door on rallies — but they lost their cool and forgot who they were.
And now it’s reboot time. I think the Angels need to make a hard run at Teixeira, and then build from there. He is the #1 offseason priority, imo.

and everybody here at HH.
b0rd3rline - October 7, 2008
One thing is for sure and it's very difficult to say, but
we are definitely NOT the best team.
We won one playoff game. Against a team that everyone, EVERYONE agrees is a shell of its former self.
No Manny Ramirez (no, that’s why the Doyers are probably going to the WS)
Poppi: hurt
Lowell: Hurt BAD
JD Drew: Hurt BAD (2 AB’s in 6 weeks)
Beckett Hurt (Definitely not the same player right now)
No Curt Schilling (A money pitcher if ever there was one)
And yet the Red Sox had zero problems with us. We didn’t even force a return trip to Anaheim. They came into our house and won both games. It’s unfathomable. It’s unacceptable. It’s heart breaking for the fans.
We dropped routine fly balls. Or we watched them fall between us. We booted routine DP grounders (tonight that really cost us). We ran the bases like complete fools, running ourselves out of innings time and again. Our pitching was okay. How many times this season did Ervin give up 4 runs in the 1st inning? You cannot do that in a post season series, especially in the first round. Big John pitched well…..John Lester pitched better. After the last 2 playoff series against Boston compare our closer with theirs. When you do that tell me you don’t feel sick to your stomach. We left 44 runners on base. That is a staggering number. We had one player who hit well with RISP. And we were out managed. Badly.
Our strategy is to fight, claw, do everything we possibly can to scratch across a run or two. Then the other team comes up with one big swing. Game over. I think that squeeze call tonite was Mike grasping at straws. He’s thinking "well, our guys most likely wont’ get the big hit, so we’ll try this instead, even though it’s low percentage. I agree that the squeeze attempt was a bonehead move; however, Sosh is a strong manager and leader of men, and he had zero to do with stranding 44 runners on base. Zero, and don’t forget that. That’s what forced his hand. He manages the assets he is given. He doesn’t have Ryan Howard hitting cleanup, and he doesn’t have ManRam to cure all our ills. He has what he has and he makes moves based on our roster. And I admire his ability to get the most out of our particular roster. But our little guys looked horrible this week, and we paid the ultimate price for it.
The idea now of a Red Sox vs. Dodgers WS is trauma inducing. As Phil Alvin would say: “Daaaark Night……It’s a daaaarrkkkk night”.
Sorry for venting. I could go on and on….
goodvibe61 - October 7, 2008
To be honest
Seeing how the Red SUX played compared to how the Rays played I don’t see them getting the ALCS. Then again I thought we’d take the SUX in four games so what do I know.
Still the Rays just feel like the team with that special something we had in ’02.
I’ll be back in the spring for more Angels baseball and more of Halos Heaven.
teopeht - October 7, 2008
Agree wholeheartedly
I, for one, am emotionally drained from that series. It seemed like every single pitch had me cringing. If there were every the perfect situation to beat Boston in the playoffs it was this season and we blew it, extremely disappointing. I imagine if Howie Kendrick hadn’t just come off the DL then he wouldn’t have blown so many chunks this series. We really gift wrapped this for them and that it what makes this so painful. You can also bet that this postseason will be like every other, where things need to be shaken up but never are. This ALDS has me so mentally exhausted and frustrated that I can go without watching baseball for awhile now.

I am so stoked to have found this site.
Thank you so much Rev, Cupie, Scottand YWC. I’ll be here everyday this winter and will be prepared to cheer hard come spring time.
