Flying out early in the morn. Thanks for the nighttime OPD thread.Tomorrow's game is on big FOX right? Good. I'll be the guy in the Angels tee charging the mound when the Oakies retaliate for the retaliation of HK's broken hand.
Bummer I won't get to see Vlad even swing the bat...
P.S. I hope I'm wrong about everything I just wrote.

Nick Swisher is the only A that scares me
.321/.472/.679, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 7 BB, 7 R over his last nine games. They have him for so cheap this season, $700k. They have him cheap over the next four years as well, $24.55-million which comes out to just $6.14-million per year over that time. Pretty good deal for the A's.

God the FOX announcers are idiots
A-Rod is a shoe in for the AL MVP award. It's already done and over with.Get over it. You don't need to make the playoffs to win it, it helps but it's not a requirement.
Let's not forget, he won it in Texas on a last place team.
WeaverMania - August 4, 2007
Agreed. You take A-Rod off that team
and they have no hopes of making the postseason. They'd be like a dozen-plus games back even though they've gotten hot lately.Vlad has the next best bid. Ordonez is interesting, but Los Tigres are still scuffling because of their starting pitching problems.
cardinalwraith - August 4, 2007
The only way that A-Rod doesn't win
is if he goes cold all of the sudden in August and September while Vladiator just goes absolutely nuts in August and September. That's the only way.
WeaverMania - August 4, 2007
If the tigers take it
Magglio Ordonez gets the MVP, barring a repeat of A-rod's April or Vlad has an obvious "team-carry" in the last 2 weeks of the season.Rev Halofan - August 4, 2007
A-Rod is better than Ordonez in OPS+ and VORP
A-Rod has a 173 OPS+ while Ordonez is at 163.A-Rod has a 58.5 VORP while Ordonez is at 54.6.
In case anyone didn't know, Hanley Ramirez (61.0) and Miguel Cabrera (58.7) lead the league in VORP.
WeaverMania - August 4, 2007
You're 100% right
but you know how those silly baseball writers are.cardinalwraith - August 4, 2007
yeah
I still don't understand why we didn't make a run at trying to grab cabrera. He would be immensely costly, and he's said to be "untouchable" but its gotta be clear that very shortly the marlins will not be able to afford him.101halo - August 4, 2007

That our pennant race "may come down to the final weekend."Scareduck, how do you think the Mariners are continuing to succeed even though their run differential is so awful (almost one-to-one). They've got to cool off sometime, right?
cardinalwraith - August 4, 2007
Predicting scareduck's answer:
"OH THE Mariners - every bad omen for them doesn't matter, meanwhile, every minute negative down to a called second strike on each batter, well that adds up to the Angels failure... and yet somehow I am a bigtime Angels fan..."Rev Halofan - August 4, 2007

Your commitment to incivility is duly noted
Every time I explain this, I get shouted down with a bunch of BS name-calling, either encouraged or instigated by you, amplified by the usual "true fan" crap argument pulled by so many second-graders.The M's have a mediocre offense, an unimpressive rotation, and a good-not-great bullpen that includes the best closer in the division. They're getting a decent season out of Adrian Beltre, probably the second-best year of his career, Ichiro is Ichiro again, and Jose Guillen is proving useful. The flaws are pretty obvious, starting with a rotation that has yet to evict Jeff Weaver (2-10, 6.32 ERA) and Horacio Ramirez (6-3, 6.63 ERA). Eventually, they're not gonna be quite so run-support lucky with those two.
