He set the tone for the game. He wasn't solid, he missed the zone and allowed way too many runs too soon in the game. If he had done better, the later plays wouldn't have mattered as much.
for calling upon Haynes to pinch-hit. When's the last time he even saw live pitching? And they call upon him to hit a fly ball? Sorry, I like Mathis' chances a heck of a better there.
That kid has not gotten any playing time so why put him out there with all that pressure. He should have used Matt Brown who is a power hitter and could have gotten us at least a sac fly.
It could be a lot worse, folks. Think of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. A lot of those people were on their to the HHH-dome to see the Twinkies. Fellow baseball fans.
However, his weak ass plays on balls hit to LF caused at least 1-3 extra runs to be scored.
Easy BOTG.
(FYI, I am a huge GA supporter, and saw his effort in spring training to be a sign of his return. I still believe he'll be incredibly important to this team's pennant run. HOWEVER, tonight, he is BOTG for his poor defensive plays.)
is the reason we lost, then don't blame him. Blame Scioscia, because he's the one who puts Anderson in left field and wastes the speed of Reggie Willits at DH. Just like he wasted Juan Rivera's arm at DH so many times last year. This is incredibly stupid, especially with flyball Weaver on the mound.
That Weaver should get it. However how about The umpires (including our old pal Eddings) 2 plays changed the outcome Vlad out at home and Vlad out at First, both looked pretty close, I think The one at first he was definitely safe and the one at home could have gone either way. The one at first though cost a run and brought a stop to a productive inning for us
It was a great game but:
1-why not bring in Speier in the 7th (although the way he pitched in the 12th???)or bring in a rested Shields at that point.
2-why not use Quinlan as a pinch hitter instead of Haynes (I know Q is a righty but he has more experience)
3-why not, walk Ichiro with first base open in the bottom of the 8th?
I said the same thing to myself last night. Ichiro was killing us last night and I would have walked him. Sosh just doesn't play the percentages sometimes and I don't get it
There is no excuse for hitting a pop up behind homeplate with bases loaded and one out. Horrible at bat and I expect more from a veteran.
As to Sosh whay in the world did Haynes pinch hit. My wife, who doesn't follow basebal as much as I do couldn't understand the decision. I can't remember the last time the guy had an at bat. Quinlan should have hit in that situation. I don't care about the righty on righty garbage. Quinlan would have come through in that situation.
With HK and Side Salad on the horizon, I'd have to say that the Angels should be getting better. Howie or Nipples in the lineup and the we win Wednesday night.
