Panther of the Game: Scot Shields
It was between Lackey or Shields. Right? Kendrick, perhaps? Scot gutted thru three to hold the game until something went our way. This was the closest Panther yet, though, as Lackey struck out 11 on his way to the All Star Game.

Jeter made the final out of the game on the first pitch of his 13th inning at-bat.

Lackey was excellent today

Shields
I agree that Lackey was absolutely lights out...But so was Shields. Late in the game. Going 3 Innings for the FIRST TIME this season... only 1H I think? Freakin' stellar.
There's my vote!

Kendrick
for his D and the leadoff double in the 13th. Plus, it's too close to call btw. Lackey and Shields.jerryhattrick - July 7, 2007
I forgot to mention
that he also moved GA over to third in the 3rd, which set him up for Mathis' groundout.jerryhattrick - July 7, 2007
Also
he tried to take out some Yankees fans with a flying bat...serves em right:http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070707/capt.ab7d53105f2e430dbd60b20a06c9c881.angels_yank ees_baseball_nyjj109.jpg

Panther = Spankee's D
No way would would have won without itPunk Rock Chris - July 7, 2007
Very tough one
I only got to listen to the game (Padres-Braves on Fox down in SD), Howie made a run at it - a couple of plays on D that had Rory Markas using the loud voice, and a huge double to lead off the 13th. Lackey was dominant, what was it? 11 K's? And Shields was nails as always (no way it could happen, but he should be an All-Star).I say Shields though, he probably went the most above and beyond.

Shields
And what is this Okajima garbage. Shields is by far the best set up man in baseball. He should have definitely been included in the all star game. This Okajima guy has only pitched half a season and everybody goes ga ga over him. Best game I watched all season. It was classic matchup between Clemens and Lackey. Both had their best stuff.AMB07 - July 7, 2007
Okajima has been better then Shields this season

Your story

Kendrick -- Panther
In a close call over Shields and Lackey. Mind you if it were down to Doug Eddings no Angel would ever be Panther.Note to Angel right-handed hitters ... Dougie's umping 1B tomorrow so no check swings.

He pitched a pretty good two innings, as well.I think all three guys should split it.

Held the Yankees to 1 run over 8 innings under the Fox spotlight. Tomorrow, it will be the Yankees who will be taking Wang deep.Fan Since 1981 - July 7, 2007

Jose Molina?
What about Kendry Morales....He comes out to play and we win without him even batting!!!!My votes go to Molina and Morales....and they yankees 1b man that made the double error that had to be the play of the game!!!!

Im Going with Reggie Jackson and Jim Leyritz
Mr October and the Best Bat Flip Known to Man deserve a mention on this site somewhere, and both ex-Angels too. Molina's AB was HUGE but i think in terms of game situation and momentum builder Shields gets it in my book. It was my 1st yankee game in zoo york and it was awesome hearing the dead silence except for the 8 or so Angel fans that were there :Dsilent_sole - July 7, 2007
3 Pitchers
3 Panthers. All 3 guys pitching today went above and beyond against the Yanks.I hope we call up another reliever after today's game cause we might need him tomorrow. Bullpen is probably extended after yesterday and today and with Santana going tomorrow, we could potentially use an extra arm.
LosAngel - July 7, 2007
Huh?
Why can't Lackey Shields and K-Rod pitch EVERY DAY. Cy Young did it. Wimps.melvintoast - July 7, 2007
