Blame of the Game: Hector Carrasco

You tell me, I was at a wedding. As the newlyweds left the altar the DJ plays the Thompson Twins Hold Me Now, and it was new wave tears of sentimental happiness for your Rev.
Half an hour later, I checked my cell phone and saw the final score and it was just tears.

Robb Quinlan
Men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs, bottom of the 6th, while the Halos are staging an epic yet classic Angel comeback. Quinny strikes out to end the inning.Clutch - June 30, 2007
I should mention
That the TYING RUN was on THIRD BASE.Clutch - June 30, 2007
Burres was on the ropes
and Quinlan let him off by swinging at two pitches that weren't close to the miniscule strike zone being called by the home plate ump.jjackflash - June 30, 2007
Wheres Kendry?
He has gotten a hit in every start this season. He should be in the LineUp no matter what until Kotchman gets hot again.acuda27 - July 1, 2007
Carrasco
can't enter the game and not give up less than 3 runs. This guy is a waste of space and needs to be DFA'd. Had he done is job angels would have tied the game and probably won, but after giving up a 3 run HR that was it.BoulderBrian - June 30, 2007
and....
with how bad Carrasco has been this year he has yet to receive a blame of the game.BoulderBrian - June 30, 2007
He's generally pitching while we're behind
but in this case it would appear that we would have a least tied it.melvintoast - June 30, 2007
Carrasco...
Without his HR give up, should've been a tied game!Yarr...

Carrasco
Enough said. I have already said my peace with regard to how I feel about him. Can't we just DFA him and bring up someone else. Mosley only pitched half an inning he could have came in.AMB07 - June 30, 2007
I know,
the managing gets ridiculous at times. Why the fuck wasn't Moseley or Bootcheck in the game and leave suckass to mopup.CaLiKrAzY - June 30, 2007
According to the daily news:
But Carrasco was one of the few options remaining after Chris Bootcheck had an extended outing Friday night and Dustin Moseley said he was feeling under the weather after batting practice. Both likely would have been used before Carrasco under different circumstances to help continue what Colon had started. The right-hander, who has dealt with a drop in velocity in recent years, saw radar-gun readings that were even lower Saturday.
At this point, Oliver appears to be a better option. When Speier comes back, who goes?
melvintoast - July 1, 2007
Lower Radar Gun Readings?
What game was the writer watching?Bart was hitting 94 early in the game. He also seemed to crank it up a bit on the last couple of batters. I forget who the last guy he faced was, but he gave him a bit of what Rex Hudler calls "Linda Ronstadt": Blue Bayou.
Or was he talking about Carrasco's radar gun readings? It's a very poorly written sentence. Colon is the last pitcher referred to by name. Therefore, the subsequent pronoun "he" refers to Colon.
The sentence makes more sense if the writer was referring to Carrasco. When Carrasco first came up with the Reds, he threw in the mid-90s consistently; I'd venture to say that Carrasco barely tops 90 these days.

He's talking about Carrasco.

Tiger fans have it harder than you Angel fans
I'm a Tiger fan and I know I don't belong on this web. I am from Shoreline, Washington, although now I'm living in Bountiful, Utah. I know what losing is like and I know what getting swept is like and I know all about heartbreakers, losing in the bottom of the ninth when you have a seven run lead. On September 30, 1967 the Tigers had a doubleheader with your Angels. The Tigers won the first game and had a 6-2 lead going into the ninth and the Angels rallied and won the game 8-6. The next day was another doubleheader, which was split--The Tigers needed a sweep to win the pennant. I was heartbroken. On May 3, 1968 you defeated us 6-5 to knock the Tigers out of first place. It took a week for them to get back to the lead. You came pretty close to that again. In 1986 the Tigers were leading your Angels 12-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, but the Angels scored eight runs to win 13-12. You got a grandslam homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. I don't think any team can break hearts as much as the Tigers. In 1988 the Tigers were pretty close to winning the division. On August 22, 1988 they they lost 7-0 to Minnesota and a decade later hadn't recovered. The Tigers when on a 15-29 run to to the end of the season and lost the division title by one game. The ineptness continued through 1989 as they lost 103 games. I thought we had hit bottom. I was wrong. This went on for 17 years. I can't describe the discouragement and hopelessness I felt during these 17 years (and I'm not sure it's over). The great depression did not go on as long as this. In 1996 the Tigers lost 109 games. Have you ever lost 109 games? In 2002 the Tigers, after starting 0-11 lost 106 games and in 2003 they lost an American League 119 games. On August 13, 2002 I was sitting in front of the TV watching the Angels and Tigers play an extra inning game. The Tigers took a lead in the top of the 11th but the Angels tied it up and eventually won the game in the 12th. A day later I watched them play again on ESPN as the Angels completed the sweep winning 5-4. At the end of the game I burst into tears. At that time I was a Giant fan in 2002 and you know what happened in the World Series. The Giants had six outs to go and they ended up losing the World Series to Who? In 2003 the Tigers lost 119 games--also going on at the same time was the failure of my marriage which resulted in a divorce in 2004. In 2006 the Tigers had their first winning season since 1993. Again, they found a way to break my heart. They screwed in up at the end. At home they hosted you guys for a three games series and lost two of the games. One of the games they needed only one out to win the game and made an error and lost the game to you guys. On the final day of the season the Tigers needed to win against the Royals. They had a 6-0 lead and later with a 7-4 lead needing five outs to win the game and the division they fell apart and lost the game in extra innings. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as painful as it was because if they had won the division I don't think they would have gone to the World Series (which they lost, of course). Your Angels have a great future. The Tigers don't. They have no bullpen and have blown a number of leads in the ninth inning--one of which was to the Angels. They were swept at home by Cleveland--three games they badly needed to win. They lost a 12-11 game to Cleveland after leading 11-7 in the bottom of the ninth, just a few days after losing a game in the bottom of the ninth to Tampa Bay. They have lost two of three to the Rangers. On Sunday, June 24th they beat the Atlanta on Sunday Night Baseball. Do you realized they hadn't won on Sunday Night Baseball for 12 years? All teams have their difficult times. They have years where they don't do very well--but 17 years? All teams sooner or later lose in the 9th but not like the Tigers. I could write a book about it.Shasta - June 30, 2007

*begins to slow clap*
that's crazy. I feel better now. Thank you.CaLiKrAzY - June 30, 2007
So what you're saying is
you're a Tigers fan? I don't get it.ReggieBullits - July 1, 2007
In Other words
Why the heck are you complaining about losing a game to Baltimore or getting swept by the Royals. It could be a lot worst...if you were a Tiger fan. Quit complaining--everyone loses at one time or another and no one loses like the Tigers.Shasta - July 1, 2007
Well.
We've got to feel unhappy sometimes. It can't be all sunshine and lollipops (and rainbows?) here. Of course, we know the tradgedies of other teams [herro Choakland]
(we've gone through it before too... although I was a lil' one back when)
scottnak - July 1, 2007
When
Did you lose 119 games or have a "slump" that lasted 17 years?Shasta - July 1, 2007
I'm not complaining
But to answer your question, the '07 Angels are a helluva lot more talented than any of those Tigers teams you mentioned. I can understand the discontent that comes along with losing to far inferior teams that should have the snot beat out of them. But hey man, go ahead and resign yourself to losing. It's easier that way. And who am I to judge?
ReggieBullits - July 1, 2007
that's true
Why do you think I don't like your complaining? You've had good teams all the time and we Tiger fans have had to put up with junk all these years. You don't have any reason to complain.Shasta - July 1, 2007
The subject here is THE ANGELS
You don't have any reason to be here if all you are going to do is tell us that your AIDS is worse than our herpes.Rev Halofan - July 1, 2007
Hector needs to join Shea in DFA land
I can't see how someone like Marcus Gywnn or Jason Bulger can do worseedhoo - June 30, 2007
Carrasco, Tabasco, KissMyAssCo
He has been lousy, lousy, lousy. Couldn't agree on anything with our most agreeable catcher, then coughed up the gopher. He should go in the Shea Hillenbrand; maybe get us another bag of balls.mattwelch - June 30, 2007
One good season with the Nats
and Stoneman bites hook, line, and s(t)inker. Right about now, I'd prefer Bootcheck, Moseley, etc etc etc over this flop. DFA him (and AllOver) now!PieceOfAase - June 30, 2007
Carrasco
was useful last year. His numbers out of the 'pen were more than respectable. But he just doesn't seem to have it anymore.jjackflash - June 30, 2007
Carrasco
His three run bomb was the difference. I think Hector is in serious jeopardy of getting DFA'd when Speier comes back. Tomorrow's game is important for the Halos. If we loose that's two straight series and the possible start of a cooling off period.Johnny Angel - July 1, 2007
