Howie Kendrick up, Izturis to the DL

Howie Kendrick is back with the big club, Mice Tits has the hammy issue again and has been moved to the DL.

I assume Howie starts at 2B Wednesday Night in Detroit. The Angels have now put Maicer Izturis on the DL twice this season for the same hamstring. Fortunately, the team is quite deep in the infield.

At tonight's game in Sacramento...
I saw Howie totally tear apart the Sacramento River Cats' starter Esteban Loazia, who looked like crap on a rehab start.

After about 4 innings (after Howie had homered and scored 2 runs), he was very abruptly removed from the game.  It makes sense now.

In the end, Salt Lake hang on to win.  Saunders pitched very well tonight, too.

That hammy
has been a problem for Mice Tits for a few years now.  That's how hamstring injuries are, apparently.  Didn't Erstad hit the DL with hamstring issues about 47 times?

I have been totally impressed with Izturis' defense this year; I'd stick him in the lineup over Figgins without hesitation these days.  It's a shame.

But Howie's return is the real big news.

I can not agree more
I feel badly for Mice Tits!  He really has been phenomenal at 3b...makes Figgy look like a chump!
Also for Cesar
Both Izturis (half-) brothers have had hamstring issues.  It's a problem that tends to linger and get worse with age.
yeah
that bare hander in sunday's game vs the dodgers was pretty clean.  But don't forget some of those good plays made by figgy in last nights game at third vs the tigers.
i love Mice Tits
but i'm also glad to see Howie Lewis bring some News soon. the angels need some pop in that lineup BAD.
BAD?
Not really
Article today about Braves needing a 5th starter
Chipper Jones is 35 years old, but they've also got a nice offensive catcher.

Anyway just a yhougjt from where a bat might come from..maybe they'd like Catasco or Mosely?

OK, this can get ridiculous
Brian McCann is right up there with Joe Mauer - the Braves would NEVER in a million years accept anything less than Jered Weaver in exchange, much less a mopup reliever.  And that still may not be enough.  In fact, they might not take much less for their NEXT catcher, Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

And they're not trading Chipper, either - the Braves are in a real pickle because they don't have a strong bench, therefore they will have to try to deal prospects to a non-contender (KC?) and hope thing work out (Odalis again?).

Chipper Jones
Has gotta be a 10/5 guy by now, isn't he?  Meaning: no trade w/o his consent.
Lineup with Kendrick back
Willits
Cabrera
Guerrero
Matthews
Kendrick
Kotchman
Hillenbrand
Napoli
Figgins
those last three
made my teeth grind
Half Empty?
I'm lovin' current win streak, and I'd love to see the Angels rattle off six more.  But there's a perverse part of me that worries about the success lulling the front office into complacency.  By the time the Halos come down the stretch and (hopefully) head into the playoffs, they're still gonna need another proven bat.  I'm not convinced that G.A. and H.K. will be enough to give them a real shot at a championship.
agreed
they gotta know that colon could land us something big.
The time is now
To bring in another bat, when it looks like we don't need it.

The price always goes up when you are desperate.

I'm glad to see that others worry, too.
I also note that you rightly mentioned the term "proven bat".

However, please allow me to inject some possibilities:

Juan Rivera may come back healthy and productive.

Kendry Morales may evolve into more than just a bench jockey (not to imply that he isn't useful, but we've got too many dancers and not enough chairs right now).

Dallas McPherson (yes, Dallas McPherson) just might make it back sometime in July, August, or September......it's possible.

September callups could include help from Wood, Evans, Mathis, Brown, or..........Nathan Haynes (Knock it off....these guys are our future).

It's obviously not an exact science, or they probably wouldn't even play the games.  I trust the baseball talent evaluations of Stoneman and Scioscia;  They make mistakes, but they learn from them.  Any way you look at it, they know more than I.

Dallas McPherson?
let it go, man.
He's going to make an impact...2009?
I have faith.
sure
and you know he'll get lots of playing time because Sosh will consider him practically a "veteran" by then.
D-Mac's career trajectory
is looking awfully similar to Todd Greene's.
Bucs
I still can't get the picture out of my head that we give up on D-Mac, then he goes onto play great for the Pirates.

P.S.  Let's all remember that while Dallas can't seem to stay healthy for more than a month at a time, he has proven he can hit RHP at the American League level.

no he hasn't
he proved he can hit a bunch of homeruns in AAA.
And you would be 100% wrong
Dallas has 18 HR's in 289 career AB's vs. RHP.  HEALTH has been his problem, NOT productivity.  The guy can hit major league pitching.
ok
but I would say that I'm only 50% wrong. Remember his strike out bonanza he put on last season?
D-Mac
Is a better DH than Hillenbrand even if he's in a hospital bed.

At least he'd only be 1 guaranteed out.  Sometimes Hillenbrand makes 2.

How would you able to tell?
It's not like they've made a bunch of other blockbuster moves at the deadline.
Home Runs
I am sure that Stoneman can tell that he needs homeruns and a third baseman.
Make it seven tonight
Then we'll have to start a new streak later.  On Thursday its Ervin, on the road, during the day.

We'll need to make sure Carrasco and Bootcheck are ready for that one.

Or at least Oliver.
Knowing Boodoo on a road-day game there might not be any reason to waste even Bootcheck.
Don't forget he's facing the #1 offense
in the American League too. This one could be brutal.
Mice Tits != Durability
I love the way the guy plays, but I'd guess it's the hammy issues that'll keep him from being a starter long-term.

Welcome back, Howie!
