Panther of the Game: Gary Matthews Jr.
The screaming you hear is Missus Halofan unleashing her rage at any network that would splitscreen a hockey game with her Angels.
"I hope Arte is watching this and he cuts of someone's nuts!" (direct quote that got the neighbors to turn off their music to hear what was happening)
I love her...

Honorable mention - Willits & Vlad1000 Oaks angels fan - May 1, 2007
Agreed
Could have gone to Vladdy, Wilits was ON tonight!Rev Halofan - May 1, 2007
AGREE
But Vlads Grand Slam and Willits 3 hits kicked ass too!!!!acuda27 - May 1, 2007
Would be fun to see
Willits, Maicer and Figgins peppered in the line up.When they are on base the ops pitchers are rattled.

Light up the corner of 12th St & Vine
With my Kansas City Vladdy and a bottle of Kansas City wine.i'm starting to like #77 batting 2nd. Bart picked a good team to have an off night, but he's 3-0 and a Win is a Win.
Donkey, how could you let us down?
rbrianc - May 1, 2007
nope
Blame Papelbon.Carl Johnson - May 1, 2007
yeah they had a pretty comfy lead
worst part is that dan johnson was a big part of all that.dan johnson.

I'm torn
As much as I want to see the A's lose, I just can't say "no" to an oppurtunity to hear Sox fans whine about Papelbon. Win/win, I guess.Caseys Kiss of Death - May 1, 2007
well said
thewebb - May 1, 2007
yup
I'm in agreeance, here. Ideally, I wanted Papelbon to surrender 75 runs in the ninth only to have Boston score 76 in the tenth.Carl Johnson - May 2, 2007
Unfortunately, the Chowder Bastards could...
have helped us in the standings. I want Oakland to be 30 games out when all is said and done.Downing Rules - May 2, 2007
Willits could be a full timer
I may have been wrong about him thinking he should only be a sub like DaVanon, although that's still my stance I think. (pretty soft stance, I know)If he is a full timer, we can't have Figgins and Izturis/Aybar and Cabrera and either catcher in there at the same time for the long haul. Just not enough pop IMO. 2 of them is fine and maybe even the catcher on top of those two, but not all 4.
thewebb - May 1, 2007
Not enough pop
Seeing as how he'd currently replace either Anderson or, more likely, Hillenbrand in the lineup, we wouldn't lose anything. Those guys have about as much pop as a cap gun right now.LA Seitz - May 1, 2007
Their value is on the bases
They get on the pitchers nerves. Leads to throwing errors, stolen bases and mistakes/strikes to the following hitters.1000 Oaks angels fan - May 1, 2007
Moseley
No love for Dustin? He came in and held a one run lead for two innings, and probably should have gone a third..81 WHIP, .186 Average Against, 1.04 ERA. He's been awesome.
Between he and Saunders, if I were Ervin, I'd keep an extra bag packed.
LA Seitz - May 1, 2007
yeah but
if Ervin sucks tomorrow his trade value continues to leak....Rev Halofan - May 1, 2007
Yups
Needed to pull off that Tejada deal last year - somehow...gorams77 - May 2, 2007
Damn Angelos
gorams77 - May 2, 2007
good call
I was talking to a buddy after the game and this is what I thought was the key to the game (and week maybe) as well. Having a guy that came in to not only bridge the gap from Colon to the big three, but to completely shut the Royals down and save on the big threes arms for future games this week. This game is a good example of what I've always liked about Colon too. A night he just didn't have it, he wills his way to pitch at least 5 innings to save on the bullpen.
Loving life right now!

Ducks win in OT
Halos win!What a great evening.

So THAT'S what happens
when you have two guys with a .400 On Base Percentage at the top of the lineup? Who woulda thought?Right now, Willits and GMJ are setting the table quite nicely for the big fella. I know it won't play out like this every night, but any time there are guys on base in front of Vlad, the complexion of the game just "looks" different.

The most pathetic thing
was that dreadful split screen! What the fuck was that? The whole point of having a big screen TV is to see the game. I can only imagine how bad it is with someone watching on an older 24" or 27" TV.While I am at it, besides the fact that the only HD Angel telecasts are on ESPN and FOX, Jose and Guby are not making the cut. Since they are in Chicago and K.C., perhaps whomever made the decision as to who broadcasts which games, figured the ratings would be low.
I know that they are new and trying to gain a wider audience, but pleae, Arte and Mgmt., for the sake of the watching public, put a quality TV team together. It says something when you put together a great team on the field and then half-ass it with a below average "Alternate" TV crew.
Jose's in game and field-level insights as well as his post-game interviews are great, but as a play-by-play man it is not good. The tone is very steady and has no urgency or excitement in his voice the way Phys does with a big play or pitch. I would not be opposed to having Guby as a 3rd man in the box to talk about pitching and giving analysis, but as a a full-time color guy, he's not there yet.
Guby's post-game interview with Figgins (on Monday Night) was very rough as well. It looked bad and came off extremely choppy. It was as if someone had asked Guby what it felt like to be back, and he turned that into a question filled with all the typical baseball cliches to Figgins "here to help the ballclub," "I just want to play," "One day at a time," etc, etc.

I know!
I'm still pissed they interrupted the Ducks game to show the Angels.Higz - May 2, 2007

As a Ducks and Angels fan...
