Derek Zumsteg Cheats to Create a Promotional Opportunity

If you manufacture controversey by dragging the good name of an Angel player through the mud, just know that our guys have backup...

L.A. Seitz: Derek, get the fuck over yourself

Stephen "Tinfoil Hat" Smith: What Zumsteg Will Sink To to Sell A Book

Pearly Gates Dudes:Resolved until Further Notice

Doug Padilla: Zumsteg surpasses Warren Commission

Bill Plunkett: Rob Neyer Spotted on Grassy Noll

Matt in Riverside: Let's just ask Frankie

Piazza's homerun ball landed three rows in front of me. Didn't have time to examine it before a noble Angel fan thew it back onto the field. As it was Mike Piazza's first ever American League homerun it was only worth about, oh, $7,500, rosin and all...

i'm no Shakespeare geek, but...
...much ado about nothing.
This should kill it
Zunsteg's book sales that is.  Who would want to read a book based on personal bias conjecture and not much data selected to fit the thesis?
On the other hand
He noticed a substance, noticed K-Rod going to it before almost every pitch, and thought he saw strange movement on those pitches.

About half the people here and arguing against Zumsteg on his blog said it was rosin, and the other half must be blind, since they claimed there was nothing there at all.

Zumsteg was right about everything he said, except for saying he did not think it was rosin, but still called it a close question whether it was rosin or something more damning.  Also, though a technicality, he is right that rosin is not allowed on the hat.

So he may have been a little to direct in his accusation in the main article, while being more concillatory in the comments, but he was basically right about everything.

Also, there is the chance it wasn't rosin.  Of course K-Rod is going to say it is something legal or at least accepted - but we will never know for sure what was under that cap.  We do know there was something, though.

Wrong wrong wrong
  1. he showed the hat to a reporer, on the spot, without hesitation, and showed him the 'smudge'.
  2. he didn't say he "thought" he saw extra movement on the pitches, he said there IS extra movement on the pitches where he went to the hat.
  3. whenever someone bothered pointing out that he wasn't going to his hat to "access the smudge", but that the smudge was there because that's where his hand went on the hat every time he touched it, he ignored them.
  4. the baseball rule says that you may not dust any part of your uniform, or the ball with the rosin.  k-rod is not "dusting" his uniform.  the rosin is, in the worst case scenario, being transfered because when you touch something dirty, your hand is gonna get dirty.  the rules also say you can't wipe your hands on your uniform between games, or blow on them unless it is cold.  so how exactly was he supposed to insure that every last piece of rosin dust was off his hand before the pitch?
he was trying to matt-drudge-lewinsky-dress us on it, and he made an ass of himself, and completely will not man up to his mistake now.
Wow
We will know what it is because it is going to be there as long as the underside of bills is black.

Strange movement?  Maybe you should watch K Rod pitch, he has some of the nastiest stuff in the bigs and his slider is to be blunt, the nastiest pitch in baseball.

I am imagining neither Derek Zoolander nor you have ever seen/touched rosin.

K-Rod cheats,
Canseco is juiced, Anna Nicole was murdered.  Welcome to America where marketing and promotion are Kings.  Rodman wears girls clothes, Britney's crazy, Lindsay's an alky, Pacman is out of control, Trump could have his head shaved, Bush is a liar, Coulter is racist (well that one is true), Pedophiles on MySpace, Hockey players commit assault, Lacrosse players are rapists, Shampoo could be an explosive, Dog Food contains Rat Poison, Peyton is Funny, Favre is a God, Daisuke is a Witch, Selig is overpaid, etc., etc., etc.,

Isn't it weird how the more people call it a non-story, the more of a story it becomes?

You forgot
that Alex Rodriguez is the worst baseball player to ever step foot on a baseball field.
Yes
and that he hates Derek Jeter!!  Film at 11!  Or is it that Jeter is jealous of A-Rod?  No, that was last week.  It's very confusing.  The Sports Reporters will have it all sorted out by Sunday though.
MLB Clears K-Rod

Link is to the LA Times article. Great quote:

"'Bob Watson called and said there's nothing to it, nothing to investigate,' General Manager Bill Stoneman said, referring to the executive who handles discipline for MLB. 'That was it. It was a short conversation.'"

Just in case there was lingering doubt on this.

Quote
Angels GM Bill Stoneman said baseball disciplinarian Bob Watson called the team and said "there's nothing to it, nothing to investigate."

Derek Zoolander still a bitch.

clearly a promotional opportunity
from the LA Times link above:

"I brought this up as something I found interesting in connection with my work on the book."

There you have it. Nice one, asshole. Way to grab some attention by slinging mud at a guy who's just doing his job. Way to eschew journalistic integrity by titling your article the very misleading "Francisco Rodriguez doctoring the baseball." There's a reason why you had to turn off the Comments on all your K-Rod entries -- because too many people disagree with you. Now it seems like MLB disagrees with you, too.

I hope your 15 minutes was worth it -- I'm sure you'll laugh all the way to the bank, knowing that you disparaged someone's integrity just so that you could benefit financially. Sleep well.

He is a contributer on USS Mariner also
Obvious why he is bent.  The Mariners are pathetic.
more of his journalistic integrity
So the LA Times reports that MLB has told the Angels they won't investigate Frankie.

But that's not how Derek Zumsteg reports it. True to his penchant for misleading headlines, his entry is titled "Angels claim Francisco Rodriguez investigation dropped".

Hey Derek, that "claim" is as accurate as your original accusations were off-base.

I like
how he opens the post up by saying "As predicted previously!" as if he were spot on in calling this.  In the "as predicted previously!" post, he says the MLB is going to avoid punishment or investigation because they don't want to set a precedent for allowing baseball fans on the internet to be allowed to cite rules violations every time that they come up.  This guy is so fucking full of himself it hurts.  I really hope this is some kind of long-winded April Fool's gag or something, because it's painful watching him not only NOT ADMIT THAT HE'S WRONG, but actually insist that he is 100% right AND that he knows exactly why MLB is not taking action.
Geraldo Rivera is his role model
make news where there is none and then make an ass outta yourself when you go searching for something that doesn't exist.

psssssttt Zumie, the moon is NOT made of cheese, there is NO Easter bunny and the tooth fairy is really your parents.

He is a

CLOWN

oh my god! bobby jenks cheats too!
i'm watching the bonus coverage of MIN-CWS, and bobby jenks has some white substance on his hat IN THE SAME SPOT AS FRANKIE! obviously he's cheating, too.
Zumsteg: Angels hater
Zumsteg has a history of being a big Mariners fan/cheerleader, while at the same time being an Angels hater.  Do a search under 'Google Groups' to find 'alt.sports.baseball.sea-mariners', and search the group with 'Zumsteg', and his long history of bias is obvious.

It is unfortunate that a no-talent hack with no objectivity and absolutely no ethics like Zumsteg is able to freely defame someone's reputation.
