I'm not happy that they did not retire his number. They retired rod Carew's number very early into the 1986 season.
I'm not happy that they did not induct him into the dormant "Angels Hall of Fame".
The ceremony was pleasant, Salmon hung out with Arte in the owner's box afterwards, watching a good game.
But Jackie Autry's box was empty. The supposed godmother of the team who was happy to hog the stage in 2002 after keeping the team barely on life support all those years, where was she when one of the player's her husband's regime drafted, trained and cultivated was being honored?
Rev Halofan: (looking through binoculars) Jackie autry isn't here. What a bitch.
Missus Halofan: Maybe she is sick
RevHF: She was fine last night when her box ws filled with all her gray haired cronies
MsHF: Maybe she had other plans-
Rev: Honoring the greatest Angel of all time superseded all my plans and he was never on my fucking payroll! He made her lots of money.
MsHF: Maybe she is in bed with her lover. Maybe she has a boy toy and is getting it on.
Rev: (complete silence as my wrath is swallowed by a tidal wave of paralyzing morose debasement, highlighted by the terrifying image of a decadent senior Jackie howling at every thrust of her WWF-clone male prostitute)

Or, hell, maybe they're still thinking about it
How many more Salmon-remembered pregame shows d'ya think they can arrange before the customers start getting sick of it?scareduck - April 4, 2007
ANOTHER THING
In between innings they recycle all of those highlights they made for the last homestand of the 2006 season...Rev Halofan - April 4, 2007
I'm a little taken aback by the Missus...
Quite a potty mouth on her.Anyway, my inside sources that are pretty tight with the Autry family, relayed to me that Jackie was in the midst of a record breaking grandmotherly gangbang.
Apparently behind the rocks.
Lackey couldn't be found for comment.

when it's all said and done, with this criteria...
GA will be the greatest angel of all-time.i'm sure they don't want to re-hash the same kind of ceremony 3 or 4 years apart.

thats what she was for her life, until one day ....let's just stop associating this woman with Mr. Autry.

when will 40 and 15 be retired?
I take it that no Angel now could take 40 or 15 on their jersey, but when will the Angels make it official? It's obviously not a question of it but when. The last number retired was either Fregosi or Reese I believe which was within the last ten years.
What about 31? Any chance there?

#40
Colon wears #40 currently; we'll see if it's given to anyone else once he leaves.jjackflash - April 4, 2007
I felt the same way...
Very disapointed! And hey, REV, did the back of your jacket say "Lowrider"?
I was in sectionm behind you. I was gonna come down, but there was a never a great time, as it was packed!

Low-budget ceremony
Is it just me or was 95% of the video they played last night the same one they played last season? The Ripken speech was very cool though....Crapper John MD - April 4, 2007
come on guys, get over yourselves
TIMMY was very happy, his wife was happy, the kids were happy, the fans were crazy happy-don't take away from it because it wasn't what YOU wanted. He got recognized and from what I saw on TV it wasn't that bad.Give them a year to really plan something special and make it a HUGE day rather than trying to cram something at the last minute.
No one is going to forget Timmy anytime soon.

agree...
I totally agree with that... I was getting a little watery-eyed out in right field watching the videos, and seeing Timmy and his wife and kids. I'm extremely happy for him...Maybe i'm just a little let down because all signs were pointing to a number retirement.. at least all the rumours were!

Timmy Ceremony
In my opinion it was a great night to honor one of the greatest Angels of all time. I thought that they could have dug up some more highlight footage from Timmy's 14 years oppose to using the same highlights 3-4 times throughout the night....I think #15 should get retired, the question is when will this happen...
Congrats to Tim and his family on a very successful career....Good Luck!

That was fun...
That was a fairly enjoyable ceremony (good thing they started after 8p when MLB.TV starts showing the feed). It really felt to me like it was working up to a jersey retirement and quite frankly it just felt awkward at the end when they ended the ceremony, started the game and 15 wasn't retired.canadianangelsfan - April 4, 2007
You hit the nail on the head.
I was at the game and it did feel really awkward when the ceremony ended. However, it was a really cool tribute. The one thing I kept thinking after the ceremony though was how can the Angels refer to Salmon as "Mr. Angel" and then not retire his goddamn number?
Higz - April 4, 2007
good point about "Mr Angel"
I can tell you this though-if and when they get around to retiring the number....they better do it in style!ladybug - April 4, 2007
Maybe King Fish is not retired
Say the Angels are up by 15 at the end of July. Stoneman has no need to wheel and deal at the trade deadline. Scioscia writes in Tim Salmon as designated hitter for say 30 at bats (with emphasis against southpaw starters). Salmon hits career home run #300 and then retires. THEN Arte has a uniform #15 retirement ceremony for Salmon.I figured the Angels to go 5-2 on their opening homestand (2-1 vs Texas and 3-1 vs Oakland). The Halos can get ahead of that pace with a win today. Here's hoping for a long winning streak to start the season!

Bring him back to get ONE MORE
Good call, no, GREAT call yeti! He is going to come back for that last dinger. I will be situated in 257, row A, waiting for it...Downing Rules - April 4, 2007
Salmon Ceremony
It sure was nice to see the King Fish with his family on the field. Also, the little message from Cal Ripkin Jr was good and the crystal piece was very nice. How about instead of a USC Helmet they hang #15 on the back wall!Overall a decent ceremony and a great game.

Angels Hall of Fame
Unlike the number retirement, the Angels Hall of Fame is something you have to wait for. The fastest any player was ever inducted was two years (Bob Grich).Zu Long - April 4, 2007
I think you guys are missing the point
Arte has mentioned in the past that he wants to incorporate past players back into the fold. Hell, he got Downing to come back which is something I never thought I'd see happen.Tim Salmon represents the face of the franchise as "Mr. Angel" and Arte know he'll get more mileage out of Timmy than one night. Why blow your wad and give him a crystal thingie, retire his number, AND induct him into the Angel hall of fame in one night when they can bring him back in 3 years, 6 years, etc. and milk it?
