Call Your Shot

On April 3, 2002, I called my shot in Vegas and put $20 down on the Angels to win the Series. Without a doubt, the greatest wager of my life.

There are 161 games left, so NOW is the time to CALL YOUR SHOT. I'm not talking about obvious stuff like Vlad's going to hit 30 HRs blah blah blah. I'm talking about going out on a limb and PREDICTING THE FUTURE, using whatever powers you may have.

Here's my shot:
Chone Figgins will be traded by July 1.

What's yours?

Hillenbrandnot on roster on July 1st
by hoook or by crook or by trade or by release...
Lacky will pitch one no-hitter
In August, at night, at the big A...
Reggie Willits will be in CF
after HGH screws up his knee going back on a long fly ball

Also, Huston Street will be photographed on the "other side" of a Castro District gloryhole.

with Piazza?
why not. and Eric Chuhvez
Howie will hit .335+
!
Lackey
Runner up in AL Cy Young voting.
Finally...
...I agree with you about something!
Now that they are actually playing
this might occur more frequently.  The winter makes me cranky.
not a huge stretch, but...
Brittle Colon will start less than 10 games for the Halos this year.
Along those lines...
Not the Angels, but I was saying the same thing about Harden this year.  Out for the season by the All-Star break.
Brandon Wood
Will get enough ABs to strike out 50 times with the Angels.
haha
i love wood, but i definitely second this one. he'll probably only need 100 for that.
Escobar will violate terms of service on Myspace
and gets kicked off.  He goes 16-9 with a 3.56 for the season.
Haha
Classic, man, classic.
Casey Kotchman
...will hit 25HR this season
My Prediction
Kotchman will not get more than 400 at-bats this season.
Why settle for one shot...
..when the whole bottle of tequila sits there in front of you?
  • GA will flirt with .400 well into May. People will talk about his renaissance, but only when they bother to mention him at all. He will be drowned out by the offensive duo of Kendrick/Kotchman. K&K will carry the offense well into July and be the talk of AL West baseball up to that point, at which time they will slump and Vlad will take over.
  • As evidenced during spring training, the Angels will lead all of major league baseball in triple plays turned this year. And they will be near the top in double plays turned. And they will lead the division in total defense percentage. And we will still complain about them.
  • GMJ's ability to outrun his bad reads off the bat and result in leaping snags will make him the most watched Angel on Sportscenter this year. Yep, more than Vlad. He will make a play that will put him up for an ESPY.
  • OC will lead the AL in fielding percentage for SS. And have more chances than all others in the AL. And not get the Gold Glove.
  • Vlad will have a great stretch run, overshadowing a mediocre April through late July. People will question his health. Then bitch about his free-swinging ways. Then bitch about Sosh's loyalty as Vlad fails to come through repeatedly in clutch situations. Then, come September, all that will be forgotten.
  • The Angels will fall behind in each of their three playoff series before sweeping the remaining games and moving on.
  • On October 15th, Anaheim will be hosting the victory parade ending at Angels Stadium, after the Halos defeat the Mets 4 games to 2 in the WS. Kotchman will be driving his WS MVP car. The parade will be scheduled to start at 11am, but will not get going until 11:25.
  • The celebratory podium will not contain Figgins. Nor Aybar. Nor Saunders. It will contain Hillendbrand. And Todd Helton.
  •  The party in the parking lot will officially conclude at 2:14pm, but the last stragglers will not leave until 4:06. And that last straggler will be me...
God I hope your right
I agree with it all except.... For sure the parade will start on time
figgins is gone
Calling my shot
Figgins, Ervin Santana, Mosley involved in major trade and lets just say Cabrera moves to third for the rest of the year
another out on the limb shot
Bill Stoneman will improve our offense at the deadline by adding (insert lame addition here)
(lame addition here)
my money is on jeff conine.
exactly- Thats a perfect fit
YWC
Will drink a beer.
smartass
just for that, i'm drinking wine coolers all season long.
and take all Cupie's supply?
my shot...
Casey doesn't get mono this year.

I know, I know, it's a stretch!

s h o t s
The Angels will have their best April record in recent memory.

The Halos have more All-Stars than usual: Kendrick, Anderson, Vlad, Lackey and Frankie.

Barry Bonds will not break Aaron's record.

Mathis's AAA performance will make Jose Molina expendable by July.

Hillenbrand will be a pleasant surprise, but will still be displaced by Kendry in July or August.

Kelvim finishes the season with more wins than Lackey.

I'm going with...
Garret Anderson = All Star

And I have 100 bucks on the Angels this year.  13 to 1 odds was just too tempting.

word...
Stoney will, once again, not do ANYTHING at the trade deadline, despite 25 rumors involving A-rod, Carl Crawford, Manny, and the ghost of Babe Ruth.

GMJ will provide more Angel's highlights on Sportcenter, than any other Angel.

Lackey will win 17 games, and bang 4 Halo Chicks under Big Thunder Mountain... at the same time!

Garrett Anderson will put up career numbers, despite looking incredibly bored doing it.

HK-47 will prove he is the future of this team by hitting large, and providing amazing defense.

Trades
I'm going to go out on a limb without really going out on a limb.  In other words, I'm going to predict something vague (i.e., there is an essentially limitless number of ways that my prediction could come true), yet nonetheless unlikely.

Bill Stoneman will consummate at least two trades during the season.  I won't say who gets traded, or what other teams will be involved.  I'm just saying there will be at least two different transactions.  Lots of ways it could happen, but if it happens at all it will be newsworthy.

OPD - from PCT +8 :
For game two:
OC/Carrasco/1
Starters Victories
The win totals for Angels starters in 2007 will be:

Ervin Santana          18
John Lackey            17
Jered Weaver           14
Kelvim Escobar         13
Joe Saunders           11
Bartolo Colon           4

The bullpen/others will combine for 24 wins for a team total of 101 wins, a new Angels record.  Frankie Rodriguez will have 47 saves.

OPD
Matthews/Carrasco/1

I am going to continue picking Matthews for Offense until he fails me.  So far he is 2-for-2 for being the first Angel to reach second base.  Yes, I count exhibition games if I go to them!

Shields
ERA will be over 5.00 at some point this season after May 1.
That is funny.
my turn
Bartolo will be picked to star in the new Ghostbusters movie as the son of the Stay-Puft man.
That was classic!
nice 1 Bug
thank you, thank you
I'd like to thank the Angels, the Hall of Fame and most of all, my fellow HalosHeaven fanatics who have thoroughly corrupted my life.
Ga
GA will have a great year thanks to being healthy. This will rank as one of his 5 best seasons as an Angel

Molina, Willit's or Murphy (Same player)and Aybar get traded

16
The number of games the A's will finish behind the Angels this season....
145,987
the number of times they will whine about it
zing!
(and incidentally, 145,987 will also be their total attendance this season)
kind of generous there, aren't you?
Erick Aybar
Will play his last game as an Angel on May 14.
Vladdy
Will catch a ball without causing me stress.
and...
GA will maken exactly one diving catch this season, but not until october.
Why Not?
Greg Jones will be the first call-up this season (not counting the rehab'ing dudes).
I can't believe I'm actually saying this...
But, A-Rod will be an Angel by the trade deadline.
i'd LOVE to see that
I'd LOVE to see that as well...
vlad will throw someone out from the warning track
and

johnsamo will win the OPD contest.

Big stretch, but could happen:
I will become an enormous Casey Kotchman fan.
There will be at least
one brawl this year between the A's and the Halos after Bobby Crosby's fragile ass gets beaned by Speier and knocks him out for the season.

Bonus: Speier earns mad respect by clocking Kendall, who is the first one out of the dugout, before Big John even gets a chance.

I hate to say it, but.....
Mike Napoli will not be our starting catcher at the end of the year. He looks completely overmatched at the plate. Please prove me wrong Naps.
Casey Kotchman
All-Star, and finishes in the Top 5 for MVP voting.

He's soon to be recognized as the Angels 2nd most potent offensive force and will rock the AL for the next decade at least..

Brandon Wood
Will slug .670 in 2 months of AAA, be called up to play 3B for the rest of the year, and hit .250 with 15 homers in about 300 at bats in the majors.
Trades
Stoneman actually trades someone....

The line up continues to do well (Hill does just enough to stay viable) and Figgy becomes the odd man out when he returns from injury - then is traded.

Kotchman
Kotchman will hit exactly 18 HR

On the non-Angel front, each member of the dodger starting staff (Lowe/Schmidt/Penny/Wolf/Tomko) will spend time on the DL.

I predict...
Jose Molina will hit 74 homeruns
Seems pretty unlikely...
I would say 64 is more within his reach.
Arod and Jeter
Won't have anymore sleep overs
