Halos Heaven

Emotions

When your team is in the playoffs, it is hard for me to comprehend that you can objectively look at the numbers and discuss things on an even keel. I'm a shaking wreck with a short fuse and no appetite. I am prone to highs of glee and lows of sulking, welling tears - and this was all before today's disaster.

My rage is all aimed at Beantown and the numbers cannot be crunched let alone compiled, so thankfully, there are more level-headed fans in Halodom who can remove themselves from their feelings long enough to exhaustively show why the Angels are going to moider 'dem losahs...

THE CHRONICLER ON PLAYOFF EXPECTATIONS - Angels Vs. Red Sox

Thanks, Chron, your objectivity has never been more soothing to the soul...

Lookout Landing says..
At least now we know how it feels to be Mariner fans.
Huh?
We know what it is like to:

Win an ALCS series
Go to the World Series
Win the World Series
Go to the playoffs in consecutive seasons
Beat the Mariners' brains in.

AndrewT Landing says...
i thought lookout landing
was busy planning their offseason and how best to cope without sinking into further depression.
We have tasted late-October champagne...
and they have not... surely they jest.
I meant
Being Mariner fans for a day.
Chronicler says it best in quoting Bob Starr:
"It would behoove the Lads to score some runs here."

Great article as it really kept my frustration in check.

Definitely appreciated
Perspective is nice.

I definitely adopted "the sky is falling" attitude after being 1-hit through 6 innings.

But this is far from over, I think we have a legit, if not probable, shot at taking the next two games, which means we're far from out of it.

Angels in 5, still.

just so i'm sure i have this straight...
the stat-geekery you trashed in your deadspin guest piece is only valid and "objective" when it is in the halos favor?
You have it straight
straight as a slide rule.
Show me the geek...
...who's slide rule explains the Colorado Rockies after September 15th.
We weren't expecting to sweep them were we?
Because, unless we were, losing a game in Boston isn't the end of the world, frankly it's par for the course.

We win the next one and we've got their nuts in a vice like grip coming back to the Big A.

One game at a time, my friends, one game at a time.  Lose today, win tomorrow...

Agree and disagree
I did not expect this series to be easy and would have been (and would be) thrilled with a split in Boston.  The concern thus is not the loss, but the way we lost and the resemblance to the ALDS in 2004 and the ALCS in 2005.  We did not get on base or challenge the opposing pitcher, and Lackey validated his critics.

It is way too premature for a doomsday attitude, but we could not have scripted a much worse start to the postseason.

Beckett
dude was filthy, yeah he made us look bad. But we had to have thoughts of loosing game 1 at Fenway against the AL Cy Young...this is a game we were expected to loose...Sure Lackey just as easily could have thrown a shut out as well...but it all came down to Beckett's dominance!

Bring on game two...I have high expectations of Escy and believe Dice K is worn down...my guess is we get on dice K in the 3rd inning and never look back!

Step away from the shower rod...
Prepare yourselves to lose to DiceK (just so you all dont kill yourselves like you were about to after yesterday's no-show). I believe we've never faced him and we usually suck against new pitching.

We still win in 5 (home win in game 3, Lackey rebound in game 4 nailbiter, anything-can-happen game 5 where Escy gets the better of a figured-out DiceK)

and If we in Game 2, we're in the driver's seat.

i think
it's more sucking against new pitchers we've never even heard of.  dice K is VERY well known and now that season is "on the brink" we should see a better effort.

the goal was to split but taking game 1 was important and it didn't get done.  NOW, the biggest game of the season is Friday.

We could have lost 25-0...
but if we win Friday, I'd say the series shifts in our favor and all this panic becomes happy-time. The real point is, even if we lose game 2, its far from "over". 0-2 series comebacks are not  that uncommon in a 5 game series.
0-2 Comebacks.
For one from the wrong side our history, please see the 1982 playoffs.
Angels Talk reported...
that the Halos are 26 - 20 in games where they faced a starter they had not seen before.

I guessed that they had about 30 losses when Terry started talking about it.

So, it really is not as bad as we perceive it, sure, 26-20 isn't great, but it is much better than what I expected.

26-20
is on pace for 92 wins.  Not bad.
Lookout Landing is admiring the 2008 standings....
...on its sidebar. The M's are in a tie for first at 0-0. After game one they'll have their own set of problems to deal with from their last place position.
Seattle winless in 2008?
It reminds me of Lakers vs. Celtics in the 80's
if we could win 1 or even 2 games there this team would be untouchable for the next 5 years.
I think you need to just delete this post.
The lads have taken back what they originally said.

"Pathetic...
Well, that pretty much made me want to take back all the nice things I said in the previous post. But, hey, Josh Beckett was on his game, so let's tip our caps and move on."

This line says it alll...
(opening line from MLB.CON recap)

"The Angels kept waiting for something Josh Beckett was unwilling to provide."

Since when does a championship team like the Halos wait for anything?

You want it? Go #!&@? get it!

I watched every inning of Game #1 and kept thinking to myself over and over again... "ok this will be the inning where it happens.

Pretty sad.

Better Late Than Never
Here are my picks a day late and after three 1st games have been played.  Please note these are the same picks I would have made 24 hours earlier.

ALDS
Angels over Red Sox
Indians over Yankees
NLCS
Snakes over Cubs
Rockies over Phils

ALCS
Indians over Angels
NLCS
Snakes over Rockies

World Series
Indians over Snakes

An aside on Angels vs Red Sox:  Yesterday here at Halos Heaven I posted that the Angels would go LWLWW against the Red Sox in the ALDS.  I got the first game right.  One down and four to go!

Sports has never been about how one starts.
It's all about how one finishes.
Relax
It's just a game.
Truer words have never been posted here.
What is truth?
Apparently, what rjicc sez.
IT'S MORE THAN "JUST A GAME"
IT'S A WAY OF LIFE.
This field may already have been plowed recently
but have the Angels ever won the first game of a postseason series that they have won?
no
they lost all the first games in 2002's run and lost the first game in 2005 ALDS (which they beat the Yankees.
so anyone watching Yankees/Tribe?
they made their hits count with 3 runs...too bad they gave up a dozen.
Arod
was his typical playoff self.
They didn't pitch to him.
It was kind of interesting up until the Injun's
grand slammo, then it turned into a rout. I thank god I'm not a yankee fan, or worse a phillies fan.
