Game Thread - Angels @ Athletics - Jered Weaver Vs. Barry Zito - 7:05 p.m.
Barry Zito's final start in the Coliseum as an A.
Okay, okay, okay, his final regular season start.
Intentionally Altered Movie Dialogue:
Arte Moreno: Is it the frank or the beans?
Bill Stoneman: I don't know, both I guess.
Mike Scioscia: [from outside] Franks and Beans! Franks and Beans! Thomas and Billy!
Is this the third game of the 12-game winning streak?
Jered Weaver assures us that nothing will be given. It will be earned or it will not be achieved.
How about Gene MAuCH's 1964 Phillies, Ken MACHa?

if we lose 2, they clinch at least a tie. Their magic # of four is to clinch a share of the division lead, it would take two losses to them by us and one more vicotry by them or a loss by us to end our chances.Rev Halofan - September 22, 2006

Game three of twelve:
Angels: 2/8A's: 1/4
bc56274 - September 22, 2006
Long Shot
The odds of the Angels beating the Athletics 8 times in a row (including a tiebreaker play-off game on 2 Oct 2006) are roughly 1/256. If only 7 consecutive wins are required the odds go down to 1/128. I do not see the Angels turning this trick. One Oakland win would knock the Angels off of their high-wire act. Which game will be the first Angel loss to the A's? How about Sunday afternoon? Ervin Santana has trouble in day games AND road games. Sunday is both. In the meantime the Angels can pick up victories tonight and tomorrow behind Weaver the Younger and John Lackey. The moral victory for the Angels is preventing the A's from clinching at home.Angels 3, 8
A's 1, 6
If you are keeping score at home, each Angel victory against the A's will cut the odds in half. The presumption here is that the Angels and A's will have the same records in their 3 games not against each other (most likely they will each go 2-1).

Some of you might disagree, but they had to see if he had it. He was pitching well all night long, just three mistakes (all HRs) are what did him in.I applaud the effort by Weaver, because this offense should score more than 3 runs per game. This game goes to show you why it might be better to miss the playoffs rather than make the playoffs this season.
