Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 88/162

Game Thread - Angels at Athletics - Ervin "Black Magic" Santana vs. Dan "Meet Me In St. Louis" Haren - 1:05 p.m.

Star-divide

Two games back at the break would be awesome. This is doable.

Intentionally Altered Movie Lines:
Macha: Drop your weapons! Now! You have no chance of escape! Come forward! I wish to take you back alive! This is your last warning! The choice is yours!
Colonel Trautman: What do you say Ervin?
Rambo Santana:
[loading his gun] Fuck 'em!

With Vlad's hurting hand, rest G.A., DH Vlad, let's hope for an incident-free game, an at-bat and two innings in Pittsburgh's RF on Tuesday and then on the plane back to Cali.

Beat My Runs and Hits Picks: LAA: 5, 9 ... OAK: 4, 12

Here we come, walkin' down the street.
We get the funniest looks from everyone we meet.
Hey Hey we're the Angels and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy winning. To put anybody down.

Tino Martinez and the Baseball tonight crew did not breathe Napoli into the mix of rookie radness when looking at the end of the 1st half of the season.  sons of bees.  Another thing about tonight's baseball tonight was an interview with GA about winning the home run derby.  he man beat Albert Pujols in the finals. I used to give GA the MVP chant.  Where you at GA?  Where you at?

ANGELS 6 / 10
ELEPHANTS 4 / 7

What is
with Rivera giving double pointers to the camera in the dugout after his last two HR's?
GA's championship
GA had his swing down and most importanlty, he paced himself so had some gas in the tamk for the finals

Most of the others were triyiing to hit the longest shot possible each pitch and ran out of gas.

AND G.A> had enough left
to hit a homr the next night and help win the game for the A.L. - he took home the Game MVP!
Peeks
Angels - 5/11
A's - 4/9
Let the Good Times Roll
with a winning streak going into the All-Star break.

Angels    4,   9
A's       2,   6

Haren vs. Angels
Too small a sample size too say much, but everybody has pretty much hit him.  GA by far the most, but they may be resting GA again....  Vlad too 5 for 10.

Gee Scioscia!   Just imagine where GA might be if you had him DH most of the year.

3 of 4
Angels 4/7
a'S 3/3
Pickage....
Into the break we go...  I'm off to the Wild Animal Park...I'll throw something at the 'phants in hopes that it trickles up to NoCal and the A's (j/k).  I really hope that I get the updates on my phone.

Good Guys:  7/13
NoCal freaks:  4/10

S

Wow, we're practically rolling!
Halos: 6/11

and now i know how joan of arc felt
now i know how joan of arc felt
as the flames rose to her roman nose
and her walkman started to melt
oh ...
did anyone catch...
the horrendous error that DaVanon had last night in that crazy 9th against Colorado?  Dang near cost them the game, but they held on by 1 run.
I was watching that game...
simultaneously with the LAAoA/OAK game. Crazy game - up 8-1 in the 9th and they almost lost it.
Futures Game
Howie will start at 2B and bat second while Adenhart is one of four pitchers for the American team that are in contention to pitch the fifth inning.
Picks
Big A: 5/10
Litte a: 4/9

Wow - chance of being only 2 back at the break.  Who'd of thunk it after that ugly stretch.

Black Magic
He rolls against the soft hitting A's

El A Angels 5 9
 Ohkclank   1 7

I assume somene keeps track of these.

Who's winning?

RIGHT SIDEBAR
Look:

Not you!

Thanks Pal
for being so accommodating. Never would have found it.
Lineup
Um, wtf? Cabrera is an everyday player, and you sit him right before a 4 day break? Does Mike know this game counts?
if he's not hurting...
Mike's overmanaging again.  Go figure.
I'd guess the latter
I really hate these sunday afternoon lineups, its like casual day for Sosh.
atta boy GA/Mice Tits...
Is Vlad the worst base running/fielding superstar in the history of the game?
WC 06
Wow, what a header by Zidane, and an equally good save. (in OT right now)
great game....
to give the rookie a rare start in place of one of our hottest overall players.  Nice job Scoiscia, you fooled 'em again!
F ya Jose!!!!!
boom time.
For anyone interested
penalty kicks for the world cup title over on ABC.
yeah!
great play.
yay
J-MO!!!!!!!!!!!!   A HOMER AND AN OUT AT THE PLATE !!!  WAHOOOOOOOOO
THE THROW
BY JUAN WAS RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!    PUT OC BACK IN AND LET AYBAR PRACTICE IN AAA!!!!
PHYS IS
RIGHT....DOES THE WONDER DOG WANT SOME CHEESE WITH THAT WINE?!?!?!   THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL, HUD!!!!
Just got in, what'd I miss?
How's Magic Dreads pitching?
pretty well
Got behind in a lot of counts early.  Sosh for whatever reason starts Aybar and he makes a key error early in the game to give up one of the runs.
  1. Jose Molina with a big HR,
  2. Maicer, Vlad, and GA with 3 straight hits scored 1 run, could have been more but Vlad ran into an out.
  3. Swisher with a bad play to allow another run to score on Morales' hit.
Bahaha
Slip n' Slide
Trip for the LF...

Ah damnit. Failed squeeze.

If you're the other club
you have to assume a squeeze, especially with a man on third and a nonentity at the plate like Aybar.
ever get the feeling?
For us to ever have a huge inning we have to do it in spite of our unnecessary aggressiveness?

A guy on 3rd, 1 out, and we squeeze with 2 rookies?  WTF?  If Aybar just grounds out to 2nd like he has every other time the run scores.

Santana got cheated on one of those pitches
Have they been calling a tight strike zone all day?
not really, pretty inconsistent
he has called some high strikes both ways.
pretty much nothing on the outside corner
has been a strike
YAY!!
Nice catch!
classic move by Rivera
The fans tried to yell at him to make him miss that ball.  So he runs away like he's not going to throw them the ball, then tosses it back over his head to them.  Funny stuff.
Figgins is hitting
just a little bit now?
His swing
looks a lot better. NIce and level.
*\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
Eric Perry is a pottymouth
though I think I agree with him. The strike zone is just totally random for both sides.
exactly.....
it is BOTH sides.....the ump is calling the zone different from team to team....perry was just trying to pump the a's up....it's called a sacrifice pop-off
oooops
the ump is NOT calling the strike zone different...it's the same for both teams....
ump
Mr. Small Man's diseases

He's the one who walked after one of the As players yesterday when they questioned a call at first.  I think it was Kotsay on that bang bang play at 1st.

You've gotta like Jose getting that popup
Good play there.
Is it just me
or could Kendry have had that if he'd've laid out?
he's learned from the vets on the current roster
that laying out is too much work.  Maybe.
Hoo hoo hoo!
Can you believe that?

Great stuff for Ervin!

The Angels' pitching staff is just on fire in this series.

A pitchers ump plus he's gotta plane to catch
The home plate ump is a pitchers ump, it'll always seem to favor most of the Angels because they like to paint the black.  This ump in particular though, sometimes it was a little big....
Wow
Wow! Three multi-hit games in a row for Figgy.  Toss in his four sb's during that stretch and ... wait a minute ... he looks like a solid lead off hitter!  Good job Chone!
As I've been saying all along....
Figgy is a solid lead-off hitter.
another great play by Molina
If he doesn't watch out, he might be the panther of the game.
Damn nice play by Jose
Fantastic.
The big, hurt
Oh my sweet Jesus
Shields when he is on is just inspirational.
true that
couldnt agree more
OMG
NOW HUD IS A POET!!!!!   IF YOU DON'T HACK THEY'LL SEND YOU BACK....HAS A RING TO IT....LOL
SON OF A GUN!!!!
WAY TO GO AYBAR....FINALLY!!!!
Aybar gets a bunt single
And I'm laughing my ass off.

checks ass

Yup.  It's off.

Take 2
Haha... well looks like Street got a second chance to fix his mistake...
In which we all get to bite our toenails
over K-Rod's interesting save.  He is just plain nervewracking anymore.
1-2-3
Now that's the way to end it :)
Woooooha!!! What a way to end the half.
I can't believe
They let Kendall hit.

Light up the Halo!

Three
That'll do very nicely, things are looking up - rotation looks killer, and people are starting to hit
Co-panthers of the game
Ervin Santana for a great pitching performance,

Jose Molina for a great defensive catching job including that play at the plate, and the homer.

wow, K-Rod is a stud
Molina stepped up his game it looks like.  Framing pitches beautifully, nice sac bunt, great plays, and the big homer.

Good game by a lot of guys.  The AL West is amazingly bunched up right now.

We might need to start calling the A's park our home field.  Light up the freeway!

from what I heard about McAfee
no thanks!!
ha, no doubt
For sure...
What an eyesore.
Big, big series Win !
There is a HUGE difference between going into the All Star break 2 games down or 4 games down. The difference is really greater than two games because it is huge psychologically.

If we had lost today, I believe alot of the players (whether they'd admit it or not) are thinking it is an uphill battle in the second half. But now, that the Angels sweep Seattle and win three of four from the A's -- hey, we're only 2 games out baby! They have to be thinking it is right there for the taking, and we have the momentum going into the second half.

Boy, I sure do love our starting pitching.

I think it was Earl Weaver
who said "momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher".  If that's true, I like our chances.
Who's starting tommorow?
Lackey starts
the first home game after the break.

I like our chances.
