Game Thread - Angels at Athletics - Ervin "Black Magic" Santana vs. Dan "Meet Me In St. Louis" Haren - 1:05 p.m.

Two games back at the break would be awesome. This is doable.
Intentionally Altered Movie Lines:
Macha: Drop your weapons! Now! You have no chance of escape! Come forward! I wish to take you back alive! This is your last warning! The choice is yours!
Colonel Trautman: What do you say Ervin?
Rambo Santana: [loading his gun] Fuck 'em!
With Vlad's hurting hand, rest G.A., DH Vlad, let's hope for an incident-free game, an at-bat and two innings in Pittsburgh's RF on Tuesday and then on the plane back to Cali.

Here we come, walkin' down the street.
We get the funniest looks from everyone we meet.Hey Hey we're the Angels and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy winning. To put anybody down.
Tino Martinez and the Baseball tonight crew did not breathe Napoli into the mix of rookie radness when looking at the end of the 1st half of the season. sons of bees. Another thing about tonight's baseball tonight was an interview with GA about winning the home run derby. he man beat Albert Pujols in the finals. I used to give GA the MVP chant. Where you at GA? Where you at?

GA's championship
GA had his swing down and most importanlty, he paced himself so had some gas in the tamk for the finalsMost of the others were triyiing to hit the longest shot possible each pitch and ran out of gas.

Haren vs. Angels
Too small a sample size too say much, but everybody has pretty much hit him. GA by far the most, but they may be resting GA again.... Vlad too 5 for 10.Gee Scioscia! Just imagine where GA might be if you had him DH most of the year.

Got behind in a lot of counts early. Sosh for whatever reason starts Aybar and he makes a key error early in the game to give up one of the runs.thewebb - July 9, 2006
Bahaha
Slip n' SlideTrip for the LF...
Ah damnit. Failed squeeze.
scottnak - July 9, 2006
If you're the other club
you have to assume a squeeze, especially with a man on third and a nonentity at the plate like Aybar.scareduck - July 9, 2006
ever get the feeling?
For us to ever have a huge inning we have to do it in spite of our unnecessary aggressiveness?A guy on 3rd, 1 out, and we squeeze with 2 rookies? WTF? If Aybar just grounds out to 2nd like he has every other time the run scores.
thewebb - July 9, 2006
Santana got cheated on one of those pitches
Have they been calling a tight strike zone all day?scareduck - July 9, 2006
not really, pretty inconsistent
he has called some high strikes both ways.thewebb - July 9, 2006

classic move by Rivera
The fans tried to yell at him to make him miss that ball. So he runs away like he's not going to throw them the ball, then tosses it back over his head to them. Funny stuff.thewebb - July 9, 2006

Eric Perry is a pottymouth
though I think I agree with him. The strike zone is just totally random for both sides.scareduck - July 9, 2006
exactly.....
it is BOTH sides.....the ump is calling the zone different from team to team....perry was just trying to pump the a's up....it's called a sacrifice pop-offangelsrallymom - July 9, 2006
oooops
the ump is NOT calling the strike zone different...it's the same for both teams....angelsrallymom - July 9, 2006
ump
Mr. Small Man's diseasesHe's the one who walked after one of the As players yesterday when they questioned a call at first. I think it was Kotsay on that bang bang play at 1st.
thewebb - July 9, 2006
You've gotta like Jose getting that popup
Good play there.scareduck - July 9, 2006
Is it just me
or could Kendry have had that if he'd've laid out?scareduck - July 9, 2006
he's learned from the vets on the current roster
that laying out is too much work. Maybe.thewebb - July 9, 2006
Hoo hoo hoo!
Can you believe that?Great stuff for Ervin!
The Angels' pitching staff is just on fire in this series.
scareduck - July 9, 2006
A pitchers ump plus he's gotta plane to catch
The home plate ump is a pitchers ump, it'll always seem to favor most of the Angels because they like to paint the black. This ump in particular though, sometimes it was a little big....johnsamo @ Halos Heaven - July 9, 2006
Wow
Wow! Three multi-hit games in a row for Figgy. Toss in his four sb's during that stretch and ... wait a minute ... he looks like a solid lead off hitter! Good job Chone!gorams77 - July 9, 2006

Co-panthers of the game
Ervin Santana for a great pitching performance,Jose Molina for a great defensive catching job including that play at the plate, and the homer.
scareduck - July 9, 2006
wow, K-Rod is a stud
Molina stepped up his game it looks like. Framing pitches beautifully, nice sac bunt, great plays, and the big homer.Good game by a lot of guys. The AL West is amazingly bunched up right now.
We might need to start calling the A's park our home field. Light up the freeway!

Big, big series Win !
There is a HUGE difference between going into the All Star break 2 games down or 4 games down. The difference is really greater than two games because it is huge psychologically. If we had lost today, I believe alot of the players (whether they'd admit it or not) are thinking it is an uphill battle in the second half. But now, that the Angels sweep Seattle and win three of four from the A's -- hey, we're only 2 games out baby! They have to be thinking it is right there for the taking, and we have the momentum going into the second half.
Boy, I sure do love our starting pitching.
Jack Frost - July 9, 2006
I think it was Earl Weaver
who said "momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher". If that's true, I like our chances.scareduck - July 9, 2006
