Game Thread - Angels at Athletics - Escobar versus Loaiza - 7:05 p.m.

Drunk driving is a worse offense than steroids, but I am glad that the Oakland Amorals did not suspend this waste of a pitcher.
Intentionally Altered Movie Dialogue:
Adrian: Einstein flunked out of school, twice.
Paulie: Is that so?
Adrian: Yeah. Beethoven was deaf. Helen Keller was blind. I think Napoli's got a good chance.
Did you know that the A's are the only team in baseball to suffer injuries this season and not perform up to their expected capabilities? Really!

I wanted it noted for the record
Earlier today, when people were running down Colon, I said this...I'm not sure you can stick a fork in Colon yet
I1) the fork could sink deep into his body and you'll never retrieve it.
(2) He's got his control, it's just a question of getting his velocity back up. I don't the Angels would be putting him out there every 5th day if they didn't think it was going to come back.
(3) Not having his plus fastball makes him extremely hittable because the batters don't have to worry about his best pitch, but the more his fastball's velocity comes up, he'll get closer and closer the Colon of 2005.
People have to remember, throwing high 90s, you've got to be strong, and his being out has taken that away, but not necassarily forever. The next month is crucial. He doesn't have to get back to 2005 Colon immediately, but if the number on the radar gun starts ticking back up, he's on his way and may be back to his old self in the late summer and the playoffs, and it's always handy to have a CY Young type pitcher around that time of year.
by johnsamo on Wed Jul 05, 2006 at 02:15:10 PM PST
btw..... check out the lifetime batter versus pitcher splits for Loiza and the Angel players. Virtually every Angel has used this guy for batting practice over the years, and that includes the years Loiza was actually a good pitcher.

...it was a coffeehouse called the Hub. two guys owned it, and i think they opened the 80s arcade together, as well. then one of them split and opened the Continental, while the other changed the Hub to Slide Bar.a little ancient Fullerton history for you...

One of the two guys is
is named Sean Frances, not sure about the other dude. I'm pretty sure that the other guy who owned the hub, which was was a really cool place, was bought out. Then, with a silent partner Sean opened Continental (my fav bar in F-Town) and then teamed up with a the band Lit (hence the the ridiculous local pop-punk themed regalia) to open Slide Bar.rjcicc - July 6, 2006
i could be wrong, but
i think carlo (sean's Hub partner) opened the Contintental. the first time i went there i happened to run into him. maybe sean bought it from him later, but whatever...old history.yeswecan - July 6, 2006

I'll admit
That I never saw that one coming. It's only one game, but you were certainly right for a day, and maybe more. It's all about location & movement. 91 with movement is a lot harder to hit than 95 and straight (see, e.g., Maddux, Glavine, etc.) Bart's first shutout since he was an Expo (!) is nothing to sneeze at.jjackflash - July 6, 2006

Am I the only one
pacing around like this is a playoff game? I want this one bad.leftwing - July 6, 2006
ehh
i still feel like its earlyhathaway93 - July 6, 2006
no
youre not. however, you have good reason to be. i think this series basically makes or breaks our season. if we sweep, we're probably looking at 1 game out of first, but if we get swept, we're back to 7 games back all of a sudden. (i think. i'm sure someone will correct me on this.)angels4adam - July 6, 2006
If the Angels sweep
they're tied for first with the A's.Get swept, and they're eight games back and probably done.
scareduck - July 6, 2006

How many games is he gonna blow this season?LA Seitz - July 6, 2006
i think hes untouchable..
he just shouldnt pitch in tie gameshathaway93 - July 6, 2006
A relief pitcher who can't pitch in tie games
Not really a commodity a lot of teams are looking for.LA Seitz - July 6, 2006
