Angels at Mariners - Ervin "Black Magic" Santana vs. Gil "Rhymes with Depeche" Meche - 1:05 p.m.

So the afternoon game = no post-game fireworks show for Mariner fans.
I guess they all have a life and somewhere to go to enjoy their holiday.
What a concept - an informed and socialized citizenry!
Makes Anaheim seem like a Nanny State in comparison.
Intentionally Altered Movie Lyrics:
Valerie Solanas: Give me fifteen cents, and I'll give you a dirty word.
Ervin Santana: What's the word?
Ervin on the road in the daylight has been a dirty word more often than not.
Maybe the extreme northern latitude alters this anomaly today.

Don't really know Meche
But very odd #s... He's given up a combined 133 Walks and hits (11 of them HRs) in 98 innings, but with a 3.75 ERA, he must depend on a lot of double plays to get out of the jams. Normally, that 133 # would mean you're getting blown away badly. A decent K rate, but not nearly enough for all the guys he puts on base... SO I'm guessing good low ball hitters are our best bet today and guys who hit into their fair share of double plays are good to sit down today. Might also mean a good time to call some hit and runs....Or if we can just hit a lot of homers and we'll have no problems.

Great 5 minute span
I was listening to the radio in the car and it was 5-1 M's and the soccer game was 0-0 in double over time. I wanted Italy to win in a big way (have them as a future bet to wi the World Cup).Walk in the house turn on the TV to catch the last two minutes of the soccer game...boom Italia scored two goals in a two minute span. I watch the celebration and then turn to the Angels game and the Angels took the lead 6-5 (and kept scoring that inning)
I witnessed two improbable events that took place in a 5 minute span:
- Two world cup goals in 2 minutes in double overtime
- The Angels scoring 5 runs (and then more) in a 5 minute span

Nap = FT Starter
I have no idea why Nap is still getting platooned with Molinagorams77 - July 4, 2006
Day Game after nightgame
eyespy - July 4, 2006
Because he's a catcher
and he started yesterday. Day game after a late afternoon game, plus no travel time between Anaheim and Seattle.scareduck - July 4, 2006
Day Game after a Night Game
We're gonna need Nipples in 2014... Don't send him to the Bengie Zone just yet...Rev Halofan - July 4, 2006
it's not a platoon
Napoli is the starter. Molina starts now and then to give him rest.thewebb - July 4, 2006
Today's panther
Mickey Hatcher. He gets enough shit when things go wrong, might as well give him the credit when things go right.Sean @ Halos Heaven - July 4, 2006
WORD
i completely agree. give criticism when it's due, but also give credit when it's deserved.yeswecan - July 4, 2006
Than it would go to Mike Hargrove

I think the other guys
on lookout landing already have him drawn & quartered on a silver platterladybug - July 4, 2006
Completely agree
Since when did the Angels start giving credit for OBP? Hatcher just now started squirting ink about walks, when it was a conspicuous problem last year. Also, the part about Hargrove. Julio Mateo shouldn't have stayed in the game when it was clear he had nothing. This game was in large part given to the Angels.

Nice game to watch when you don't get to see many, nice D when needed (Cabrera), good hitting and apart from the 4th nice pitching by MagicMatt UK - July 4, 2006
let's get our first sweep of the year boys!
Nice win today. Coming back from a lead, Santana pitched deep to save our relief corps (Shields and Frankie).thewebb - July 4, 2006

another phys moment
phys was so tongue-tied during the signoff, he couldn't get the words "light up the halo; angels win!" out of his mouth before they cut to commercial. poor phys...yeswecan - July 4, 2006

Poor guy is incapable of living in the moemnt - can only experience joy as a litany recitation of what HAS HAPPENED, rather than embracing things as they happen.Rev Halofan - July 4, 2006
Meanwhile, in Oakland
1-1 tie with Detroit, and Verlander is dealing. 104 pitches after the 7th, so he's probably out. If the A's lose, the Angels gain ground in the West, 4.5 games back.scareduck - July 4, 2006
