It always seems to be one inning that does John Lackey in.
Why Scioscia doesn't pull him out sooner - this is historically - is a mystery.
The contact play didn't work, and neither did the Leave-Frankie-Out (although we have so many games against Texas, I guess resting him and denying them a look at him has some value, but it is miniscule).
Finley slapped one through to the right side, though, that is all that matters (after messing up a squeeze). Bengie's 3-run bomb was the key. We get any stellar production out of the aging '02 heroes and we are going places.

Curse of the Backhander
Five wild pitches. F-i-v-e. I didn't see the game, but I'll bet you two Rudy Meoli cards that Bengie tried and failed to backhand at least two of 'em.... We're gonna need a defensive replacement after the 7th inning....mattwelch - April 8, 2005
ouch!
i think i saw them all, but this is what i remember:- & 2. lackey bounced 2 sliders that dropped and bounced and hit bengie in the cage.
- sheilds threw inside and it just sailed up and over bengie.
although it looked like it was going to hit the guy, hard to figure where to put your glove on that one4. sheilds curved one a mile left into the dirt - MAYBE this one was backhanded, but i doubt most catchers get this one.
#5 don't remember another one, as my 2 year old screams at my side.
